Re: "Low Tone"

Low tones (lower frequencies) travel better over distance than higher frequencies. If the shooter intends to produce less noise from a firearms discharge, you want the opposite of "low tone."

Re: These look pretty darn good for the price

They were using a marketing meter (a digital Larson Davis). Not useful for genuine silencer testing. The design won't hold up to any serious fire schedule. Aren't these the same people making a $99 rimfire suppressor? Use a crush washer? Perhaps the Yugo of silencers has arrived...

Re: Suppressor cleaning and service life

Sealed up centerfire pistol cans are a thing of the past. After 5000 rounds they become MUCH louder because the geometry in the suppressor gets clogged up with carbon fouling. They will still work, but not provide as much sound reduction. Don't buy sealed up centerfire pistol cans, they are a dinosa...

Re: New suppressor from Ruger....Ruger?

I think Sig had some cast baffles a while back. That is a bizarre baffle design for sure. I am glad to see the mainstream companies getting into the game. Its about time. Ruger is obviously testing the waters to see how it goes. Reviews with no sound legit sound meter results are mostly just fluff t...

Re: Larsondavis sound meter

If the LXT1 QPR is no good for gunshots etc , Why dose the company say its capable of use with firearms , explosions etc ? Seems real weird , would like to see the actual specs of the unit as well . The actual specs of the unit are available to see online. Its marketing. Thats why I call these mete...

Re: Larsondavis sound meter

The Larson Davis Digital meters do not meet Mil-Std testing requirements. Rise time is 30 micro seconds and the sample rate is 51,200. Rise time should be 20 micro seconds or less and 160,000 sample rate to meet the standard. The Larson Davis 800B meets the standards when set up properly. What abou...

On the video, I'm not sure. Hopefully we can get something short and sweet for the Regulator and Mask 22 here soon. I do have some numbers though from playing with ours a couple weeks ago. On a Ruger 22/45 LITE. 1) 114.7 2) 110.7 3) 111.9 4) 112.2 5) 111.8 6) 112.0 AVG excluding FRP - 111.7 Just fo...

Re: Sparrow vs Element 2

A well designed suppressor works well on both. Why shoot yourself in the foot and buy a suppressor that is loud on pistols but good on rifles when you can buy a suppressor that works well on both? The "ease of cleaning" issue is exaggerated when you follow manufactures cleaning schedules.

The Eco-22 suppressor is a much better buy and much quieter as well.

Instead of complaining about what others are doing, why don't you just do the same? I see a lot of 02/07s crying that so and so get to do this, but I was denied a variance for the same thing. Maybe y'all just need to learn how to articulate what you want to do better. ;-) Are you suggesting that al...

spare or replacement silencer parts and tube replacement

Spare silencer parts have always been considered silencers by ATF. As idiotic as that sounds its true. The only ones who can be in possession of spare parts are 07/02 FFLs. In every letter I have ever seen written that related to the subject ATF generally states the definition of a silencer and then...

Re: Do Digital Sound Meters meet testing requirements?

I knew Surefire used the correct equipment. 262K samples on the Pulse system so it far exceeds the standard. 3.8 micro seconds. They cost over 45K. The B&K system I am looking at will do three channels at 192K which is more than enough. Complete system is over 20K, but that is doable for what yo...

Re: Do Digital Sound Meters meet testing requirements?

Wow, I just spent about 30 mins of otherwise billable time reading this and some of the links. #1- I had no freaking clue that sound meters cost that damn much. #2- to save other people some time, the 147D mil standard that is referenced is available at http://www.silencertalk.com/docs/mil-std-1474...
