Re: Thoughts on these tubes I found on ebay?
This thread still has the crazy. When you file a form1 to make a silencer, of course you have intent to make a silencer. Having intent to make a silencer is not illegal, unless you don't file a form 1 and get a stamp. If you have a stamp to make a form 1 silencer, you can make the thing out of anyth...

11" x 1.75" SMG can, if it isn't quiet then something is seriously wrong. Agreed, but their previous designs still managed to be both big and ineffective. It looks like they were making a good effort to pull their name out the mud before the horrible charges were leveled at what's h...

Interesting. So they are no longer complete garbage?
Too bad for everyone that works there that their brand is now synonymous with incestuous child molestation now on top of the already pretty hefty baggage they had as far as reputation goes.

Re: Thoughts on these tubes I found on ebay?
Edit: so after a little mental processing I think I have the distinction figured out. It's the difference between buying bar stock and turning a K baffle vs purchasing a K baffle that has already been turned. In the latter case you are buying a silencer part as opposed to buying stuff to make a sil...

Re: Thoughts on these tubes I found on ebay?
If you have an approved Form 1 then why would it matter if the ATF comes knocking? Because he is buying it with the intent of being used as a silencer part. From ATF website.... Emphasis by me. "The term “Firearm Silencer” or “Firearm Muffler” means any device for silencing, muffling, or dimin...

Re: Brakeout Fouling Issues
Eww. Take it off and throw it in the dip. Not only will any lead disappear, but all the carbon gets really softened up and you can just wipe them off or use a nylon brush. There's not really any lead there, just carbon and copper. (the blue is copper) But yeah, just clean it off. Use a carbon solve...

Re: jesse james new can, 10db quieter than the best?
He doesn't have to prove his product is better. People want stuff he's made. Thats why the motorcycles he does build cost so much, same with his rifles, 1911's etc. The pricing is high end, and he's able to create demand with only his name and reputation. He's marketing to the well heeled 'collecto...

Re: Brakeout Fouling Issues
What kind of ammo are you shooting through it? Something super dirty?
I leave most of the carbon on mine because it snugs up the mount. Maybe you have a super-tight mount that mates exceptionally well with your can & that's causing the problems.

It's normal, take it off every 200 rounds to minimize problems. I leave the carbon on, but you can scrub/scrape it off if you want.

Re: Doc Dater says ti better than steel for heat, and more
Seems pretty straightforward what Dater was saying in the ar15 forums. Certain pure grades of Ti may not match the heat properties of SS, but Gemtech uses their proprietary Ti alloys... which does exceed steel's heat properties. Their alloy isn't proprietary, he even says that they buy it from a na...

Re: Doc Dater says ti better than steel for heat, and more
Titanium does not experience a huge drop in strength at high temps. It is used in the compressor stage of modern turbines and can see temps up to 1000 degrees in normal service. The combustion stage of a turbine might see 1800-2000 degrees and needs a nickel or cobalt alloy. The primary issue with ...

Re: Doc Dater says ti better than steel for heat, and more
It is true. What is true, that titanium handles high heat better than steel, or that hot barrels cause bullet destabilization? I can think of a bunch of reasons groups would open up with a hot barrel that have nothing to do with bullets leaving the barrel wobbly. I'm fully aware who Dater is, that'...

Doc Dater says ti better than steel for heat, and more
On AR15.com. What he is saying makes absolutely no sense to me from what I understand about Ti & I've never heard of a hot barrel causing wobbly bullets. So is he crazy, or what? His post below in answer to this question: "Is shooting four magazines rapidly on semi from a 10.5 going to have...

I have an AAC Element 2 and love the suppressor. But.......... I decided to put it in the ultrasonic cleaner after running about 250 rounds of various species of ammo through it. To my surprise and dismay the finish (paint) on the exterior of the suppressor came off in like 2 minutes!!! I couldn't ...

Re: Sig jumps into the ring.....
The truth is, almost every rifle muzzle brake can be made into a silencer if you enclose it in a tube. It might not be super effective, but I bet a JP muzzle brake with a tube over it would shave a couple dB off the report. I like this lawsuit. Sig claims to have meter data showing that it amplifie...
