Re: Continued use Effectivness
There are two things that decrease suppressor performance, 1. erosion opening up the baffle apertures, and 2. volume reduction caused by the buildup of carbon and etc. A standard US industry rifle silencer will last 10's of thousands of rounds, mainly dependent on avoiding exposing the suppressor to...

Re: SilencerCo Omega Full Auto Torture
Yeah. I've seen pictures of cans with heavy firing schedules where inconel blast baffles still looked good, but the SS baffles immediately following had the apertures worn larger.rimshaker wrote:Stellite rocks. But I'd love to see the condition of the SS baffles after that.

Re: #4 Buckshot is 'best'?
Regarding minimum penetration and the FBI spec, it makes more sense if you understand the reasoning behind that minimum value. Look up Dr. Martin Fackler and Dr. G. K. Roberts for all the information on the subject you could hope for. In short, minimum penetration isn't the only criteria. 12" i...

Re: Suppressed 12: subsonic
With rifles it's both. Most of the time a rifle can be made to run with changes to gas ports, gas port location, weight of reciprocating parts, the right powder and bullet weight, etc. Some company I can't remember had a subsonic 5.56 load that would cycle a semi, though I recall being told the qual...

Re: Has anyone else tried the Vepr 12? Shotgun runs like rifle
This thread is old , but that last post.... what in the hell is he saying? Home invaders have historically proven to be very receptive to gunfire. Whether or not 8 is enough is a different conversation, but my gut says that if Mr. Home-Invader isn't dissuaded by 8 shots from a 12 gauge -- hit or mi...

Re: Another Variation on "short 5.56 suppressors"
The only comments I feel qualified to add are: 1. Don't be afraid of thread-on cans. Rocksett will absolutely prevent them from backing off and isn't semi permanent, as some people seem to fear. They do save the weight a quick attach muzzle device would add (a quarter pound, typically). 2. I've neve...

I highly recommend Rocksett. I degrease both threads and use a couple of drops and have never had my thread-on can come loose, despite many sessions of rapid fire.

Re: Specwar or Saker
If it's going to be subsonic only, I would investigate 9mm pistol can sound performance and wear when used with .300blk subs. Pistol cans will be a hell of a lot lighter than a .30 Specwar and, since you aren't going to be shooting without the can, you can use a threaded mount with some Rocksett.

2013 AAC thread specsheet - 0.563" minimum shoulder
I'm looking at the 2013 AAC thread specsheet, specifically at the two 5.56 diagrams. On the first, it gives the spec for the special thread R. Silvers made to provide tighter fit with the Ranger 2. Interestingly, 0.563" is listed as the minimum shoulder diameter, though it doesn't seem clear to...

Have a look in this one. The minimum shoulder diameter I mentioned is in the first 5.56 1/2x28 diagram.

5.56 Thread spec- minimum barrel diameter 0.563?
I'm looking at the 2013 AAC thread specsheet and 0.563" is listed as the minimum shoulder diameter. I just want to confirm that this information is correct and considered safe.

Re: Need advice on a 5.56 suppressor
If you're still interested in opinions, Saker K or Specwar K get my vote. I like the Saker K for the lighter thread attach option. The ability to add a flash hider to the front of the can intrigues me as well, as every can I've ever shot has had quite a lot of flash at night compared to A2 flash hid...

Re: How loud is the sonic crack inside?
DON'T PLUG YOUR EARS BE A MAN! WHAT? QUIT MUMBLING! I've experienced a massive difference between firing a suppressed AR15 out in a field (sounds like a "snap-hiss") and firing suppressed 5 feet from a wall. The reflected sound from the wall made the AR15 sound as loud as if it were...

Re: Socom 556 acceptable sound reduction?
Have you fired the SOCOM 556 at night? My understanding was that better flash suppression was a goal, since most cans I've fired at night (always on 16" barrels) exhibited surprisingly large first round flashes and 2-4" long caliber-sized jets of red/orange flame on subsequent shots.

Re: Element 2 vs Pilot 2
I've also got an element 2. I bought it specifically because testing seemed to show it had the least first round pop of the .22 cans and it had excellent pistol sound rating and good rifle sound rating. Cleaning is a chore, but no more so than any other 22 can I think: Getting it all apart with the ...

Re: AAC Mini4 Question (vs M4-2000/SDN-6) Question
Honestly man, you won't know if you like it until you can shoot with it, hear it being shot by someone else, and can then likewise compare it to some other cans. For me, I found as long as it's rated around 140dB or lower, it sounds fine. I like the little "snap" sound a decent rifle can m...

Re: Has anyone on here actually "shot out" a silencer?
A buddy's Ops Inc 5.56 can had some crazy looking erosion on the blast baffle after roughly 10k rounds mixed on 16" and 10" ARs. It was about 2x the size of what I'd expect the baffle aperture to be and was a strange irregular shape. It was louder than a newish AAC Ranger 2 and a Surefire ...

A pre-treating method to reduce .22 suppressor baffle cleaning time seems to have been found.
It is near the bottom of the article. Search for "Silicon" to find it quickly. The man claims heating clean .22 suppressor parts and dipping them in silicon oil results in parts that resist lead/carbon fouling accumulation. It is not clear from the review how many cleaning sessions this is...
