Re: Do Can Designs Affect Accuracy?

On my Mauser adding the can means I need to add 11 minutes of up and 1 minute of left. Actual group size does not change at all. I had a guy at a shoot debate this and so I sat there taking the can on and off and taking shots until he got bored watching the two ragged holes form up. so there you ha...

Re: My Form1 transforms into my first can!!!

You can fix timing issues on cans for the Uzi by chucking up the bbls and turning the bbl flange on all your bbls to the same thickness. I did this on mine so I could cut a slot in the end of my Coastal can for the ratcheting release to click into so the can won't unscrew (Coastal cans do not have s...

Re: my .308 can design

ALL the pictures aren't gone. The original I made is still kicking, I have no idea if any cans were made from the distributed plans, but I hope so. I can post my original sketches, but they have precious few actual dimensions on them. I suppose I can take measurements if folks want them, but I will ...

Re: LATHE HELP

I am a EE by training. But I have picked up mechanical training as my hobbies have progressed over the years. I was just trying to point out that there are alternatives to spending a ton of money. I started out on a crappy Enco 9x19 lathe. If you look at the follower you will see the frame is hand-c...

Hmmm...yes...it does look familiar.

But that doesn't upset me or anything, nice looking can!

I need to get my 223 can finished up, thanks for reminding me.

I did my stepped cones on a manual lathe, it was tedious but not overly difficult.

Re: 7.62 form 1 can

stimpsonjcat - Mind if I critique and applaud? Very nicely done silencer. Are those spacers, or are they meant to help make it quieter like an omega? As something to help make it quieter, I think the holes need to be much smaller so that they restrict movement back and forth through them. But as sp...

Sooo...like an Uzi bbl nut mount?

Course the bbl OD would need to be verified true to the bore, or rather true to the axis of the bore at the muzzle.

Re: Call for Machinists (II): 3 Designs to build and test

It was the blast baffle spacer that I was really referring to.

It has occured to me that making a stepped spacer would be helpful. If you can picture a very long stepped cone for the spacer.

It just makes sense, the right angles cause slowing, and the gases *want* to move into the slits.

Re: Suppressor Engineering 101

I'm absolutely understanding about being conservative and I think that's the right choice. However, if I take the above numbers and double the size of the first chamber to 4cuin, that's a pressure of 3200. Reasonable for sure. That's makes the required wall thickness a guess of .030, very thin, but...

Hmmm...when I used the ideal gas laws to do some guesstimating I got politely stomped by the pressure-vessel designers here.

Maybe they left or are sleeping.

Re: .45 acp Booster

Booster is a bad term, they ought to be called 'decouplers' IMHO.

All they do is decouple the mass of the can from the pistol so the bbl can unlock and cycle.

Re: 1st threading job

I've started to notice that the ID threads for cans are generally cut to a fine point, I am guessing with a tap.

This means if you make your bbl threads with any flat on the thread cutting tool, you'll get tight connections.

I have started making all bbl threads with a full V form and no flat.
