Re: Form 1 .45 acp question.....
Just finished mine last week. I went with .500" gives you .025" around the bullet to avoid baffle strikes. Plenty if you make everything in the can and booster true to each other.

Sons of Guns 50BMG Suppressor Episode
Did anyone see the Sons of Guns episode this weekend with the integral 50 BMG suppressor that they made? Pretty cool! I thought the whole reason the 50 BMG doesn't blow your shoulder off is because the muzzle brake directs gasses backwards which propels the gun forward a bit counteracting the force ...

Re: My .223 Takedown MonoCore
Awesome! Do you have these machines at home? Can I ask what models they are so I can learn more about them? I cut stainless for the first time while making my .45 booster last month. I learned very quickly what work hardening was. I was trying to drill slowly with an endmill and it wouldn't cut! But...

Re: My .223 Takedown MonoCore
I'm just a self-taught hobby machinist, with about 3 projects under my belt. A ball cutter, a morse code key, and a .45ACP suppressor! I've love to know how you make such precision pieces like this titanium end cap with the finely milled slots in it. I know I could make the same part, but it would l...

Re: Completed 45 acp build
Wow nice job! How do you like the powder coating? Did you powder coat the threads? If so, did it affect the fit? I still need to coat my .45 can that I just finished as well. Another question, I'm dealing with a 48lbs spring because it seems anything less, the spring bottoms out and distorts. That s...

Nice job! How long did it take you? What are the dimples for in the baffles, just to save some weight?

Re: 45 (ACP or WM) can without booster?
I couldn't find one to buy so I had to make one. I've made it three times now. The first one wasn't locking so I had no way of turning it onto the barrel without a wrench, the second one was locking, but it was crooked and caused the bullets to just touch the last baffle, so I figured that had to go...

Re: My First F1 Can a .45 ACP Boosted Monocore
Excellent work - well done I have been thinking of making a mono core for a while now, seems I have asimilar lathe and mill set-up to you. One question, what was the safe alloy operation for ? Thanks for showing I have the Grizzly G0602 lathe and an Enco "Rong Fu" mill. I'd like a lathe t...

Re: My First F1 Can a .45 ACP Boosted Monocore
Well I figured milling one side of a baffle would be fine, but when I went to mill the other side of the baffle I thought I would get chatter on the baffle because at that point they aluminum was so thin. I was right... I made a thin test cut in a square of aluminum without cerrosafe and it looked t...

My First F1 Can a .45 ACP Boosted Monocore
Well its done, and when I say done, I mean I've shot it a few times. I still have some things to tweak on it, mostly the booster. The monocore and the tube are done which is really what matters most. I think I am going to have the internals anodized, and the outside powder coated, kind of like YHM d...

Re: How do you prevent booster piston from rotating?
So what happens if the piston rotates and the notch doesn't align with the screw? Does it hammer against the screw then until you rotate it back, or is this not a concern?
I'm thinkng of milling a slot in the piston and then inserting a dowel pin through the side of the housing for it to ride on...

How do you prevent booster piston from rotating?
Having never seen a booster except for pictures online, I decided to attempt to build one for my can. I haven't figured out the best way to keep it from rotating. Sure I could mill flats on the part nearest the barrel and keep a wrench handy to unscrew from the gun but thats not really too convenien...

How much travel is needed in a .45 booster piston?
I've completed my can and my recoil booster. I think I have more than what is necessary for the booster in terms of travel. I'd say my piston can travel .625" before the spring binds. Is that much really necessary? I could shorten my piston and save some weight if its not. Thanks. ...Timbers

Re: Whats the best way to verify unobstructed bullet path?
Hah thanks guys! Drilling a hole in a piece of plywood to shield me from shrapnel is a good idea too.
It looks perfect but I tell ya after 100 some hours of machine work the slightest baffle strike would bring tears to my eyes!

Whats the best way to verify unobstructed bullet path?
I just finished my first can. It is for .45. Before I test fire it, what is the best way to verify the bullet won't strike a baffle? I was thinking of buying a .45 laser bore sight cartridge, and verifying the laser light is in the middle of the exit hole? Otherwise a long, straight rod that fit per...

Starting ID for cutting .578x28 internal threads?
I need to cut internal threads in my recoil booster piston to mount to my .45 threaded barrel which has a .578x28 thread. I have no idea what diameter I should start with. Does anyone have a recommendation? This is my last step in my can build so I'm pretty excited. I'll post pics when I'm done. Tha...

Why do recoil booster pistons have ovals cut in the sides?
I'm designing my own recoil booster for the .45 can I'm building. I can't figure out why I see ovals in the sides of the piston on some of the manufactured pistons. Anyone know the reason? Thanks for the help and Merry Christmas!

Re: Tube threading
I also have the Grizzly G0602. Get yourself a Phase II quick change tool post and mount it on there.
Also, theres a place called cdcotools.com you can get cheap tool holders.
This will speed up your threading believe me.

Re: Tube threading
Have you tried watching some tutorials on Youtube? I taught myself to thread after watching some videos and reading in a book. Make sure your threading tool is perpindicullar to your workpiece, check with threading gauge. Make sure your lathe is geared properly for the thread you want to cut. Make s...
