Re: QD idea I'm pondering...

The original Carbon 15 by Professional Ordnance used a ball type QD muzzle brake. The end of the bbl was grooved to retain the brake, had a spring loaded collar you slid to release. They offered a 1/2"-28 QD adapter so you could mount the device of your choice. Seemed to work OK.

Re: fullauto parts in a parts kit?

The M16/AR15 is kind of a unique case in that installing M16 components minus the auto sear can result in doubling or longer bursts just from hammer follow. Other designs have features to eliminate this and they simply wind up with a loaded round and an uncocked hammer if fired with the selector in ...

Re: Guidance with First Integral 10/22

If you want the ports to be exposed or covered, you could use a setup similar to the one used on a STEN integral that was made back in the day. Essentially, a half inch in front of the ported area you turn the bbl to a slightly smaller diameter and thread the half inch in front of the ports. You the...

Re: How is this legal?

I have seen photos in closeup of the trigger unit. There is a lever the hammer hits when it is shoved back by the carrier, all it does is snap the trigger forward again using that cocking force to do so. The three position selector has safe, semi, and "assisted reset" positions, semi just ...

Re: MA state crime lab is as honest as the cops it serves

It was one lab tech. I bet this costs a few hundred million dollars though. It was one lab tech that got caught! This sort of thing goes on all the time, IIRC the FBI had a similar "bad apple" for a few years. Texas has a lot of people convicted before DNA testing became common, several w...

Re: Liberty Mystic Question - 5.45x39

One thing to be aware of, the 5.45 round is known to need a little bit of travel beyond the muzzle before it "settles down" and flies straight. The very long bullet tends to yaw a bit, so if the baffle holes are pretty tight, you may get strikes. It is fairly common to see elongated holes ...

Re: Steak done-ness

I like all my beef with a thick black/brown crust on the outside, with a well done interior, all brown and no pink. What would that be, Black and Well Done? Back in the day, Mom bought something called a "Whiz Grid", similar to a George Foreman grill, but the plates were perfectly flat and...

Re: Got a Form 1 / 4 pending? Call your CongressPerson

"FBI background check", are we talking a full blown investigation where agents actually talk to your neighbors and 3rd grade teacher? Or are we talking a simple records check where somebody punches your name and SSN into a computer and 3 seconds later your entire arrest and conviction reco...

Regarding the gas vents on the AK, different styles exist. The original milled AK47 used a series of holes drilled in the gas tube a bit behind where it mounts to the gas block. When the Warsaw Pact nations went to the stamped AKM design they relocated them to the gasblock/tube interface like is com...

One thing to be very aware of is the 1911 bbl may not be aligned with the bushing. Depending on the depth and engagement of the locking lugs, the height of the bbl link, etc. the bbl may actually be pointing up or down a few degrees from parallel with the slide.

Seen a patent once for a suppressed over/under. All he did was drill a series of tiny holes in both bbls so when one bbl was fired the gases were ported into the other bbl. Dunno how effective that would be, but it would provide some noise reduction with no added weight or bulk, only downside would ...
