Re: Difference in sound for different material?

Different material should have different harmonics everything being equal. Identical designs should meter the same peak sound pressure but the harmonic sound should be different (IMHO). Maybe its inaudible to humans and pisses off dogs and critters but I have fired similar designs in different mater...

Re: Synthetic & Natural Diamond Turning Tools and Inserts

We use to use a diamond tipped boring bar on glass filled Teflon parts. The diamond holds up well on abrasive materials.
Diamond and ceramic inserts do not like interrupted cuts / shock or impact loads unless technology has changed.

Re: Single point threading titanium tube

I cut my threads in back gears ( low RPM ) and use a heavy cutting oil ( Ridged or Oatey from Lowe's or Home Depot). I use flip tip carbide and when I am getting near my final size I make two passes at the same depth to clean cut the threads. Stub up the tool and make your set up rigid as possible (...

Re: Importance of Keeping Weight Low on a 300WM Suppressor

Suppressor weight has a varying affect on impact shift depending on barrel profile, rigidity, length, etc. One example is my AAC M4-2000 suppressor on different host rifles. Using the same mount my Remington 700 tactical shows a 1/2 moa impact shift @ 100 yards while the same suppressor on my Tavor ...

The DOT 5 brake fluid / silicone oil looks like it does have a positive impact on ease of cleaning and I plan on giving it a try.

Not much spare time to cut threads but have my host rifle ready to go..... S&W MP15-22 with some upgraded parts. I ditched the plastic quad factory rail and put an aluminum YHM quad rail on it its place. MI flip sights for BUIS while my Vortex SPARC II is on the way. Magpul "real" butt...

I have seen added side hole porting on a omega variation but nothing really solid report wise for metering numbers.

Would you be so kind as to post either some dimensional drawings or the 3D model that you fed into the CNC? https://grabcad.com/library/omega-baffle Did you use that file as it is on GrabCAD for your baffles? Or did you apply changes to it, with a few changes the difference in sound reduction is no...

The added weight is less noticeable on a rifle can.
Each baffle is slightly over 20 grams in weight so I will have to see what the total is once finished.

Form 1 / Omega baffle build .22 rifle can~

Got my approval for my latest project can. I wanted a high volume can for a .22 rimfire rifle ( M&P15-22 ) . My parameters were all titanium & stainless steel construction. I decided on a tube OAL length of 8.250" with threaded end caps. My tube is grade 9 titanium with grade 5 titanium...

You can usually grab a few sticks cheap off flea Bay as filler rod or grade 5 round stock.

Re: Silencer material comparison, weight vs strength

Titanium at elevated temps is susceptible to oxygen/nitrogen contamination.
If you plan on running your can +600 F degrees I would choose another material.

Re: Titanium booster and galling?

The Nitronic series of stainless steel holds up well to galling and Nitronic 60 is some tuff stuff to machine but makes a very durable part. I had a bar end and turned a blast baffle & spacer from it. 17-4 is excellent material and heat treated I doubt it will ever fail or wear out but the weigh...

Re: materials for baffles..need some feedback

304 is "gummy" and clings to cutting tools, carbide anyway.
The non-magnetic 300 series SS is great if you are making parts for food processing or rust free applications but 17-4 is the better pick for baffles IMHO.

17-4 is not that bad to machine with the right tooling.

Thanks, the pic of that manifold helps. I'm not set up to back-purge yet, but that looks like a convenient way to do it. Its just a piece of brass with a drilled hole thru and some 1/4 NPT pipe threaded holed to fit the regulator to. I made a barbed fitting for some hose I attached to it and adjust...

Re: full titanium 30 cal build in progress.

I back purged my titanium tube by putting a hose flowing argon into the tube with a small opening on the other end so the argon can flow freely. Titanium welds up nicely. Cal, how did you set that up - did you tap in to the same line as the torch, or use a separate tank setup? You can do it anyway ...

I'd like to give welding it a go but the damn tig rod is ridiculously expensive. I'm plenty sure of being capable just too cheap to buy filler metal. Nice looking work there! You can find some cheap on fleabay or buy grade 5 filler rod by the piece around $3. To me titanium welds like other alloys ...

Re: full titanium 30 cal build in progress.

A cabinet purged with argon would be a great thing to have but as long as you can shield the heated titanium until it cools below 700F you can run a large gas lens and back purdge. As long as oxygen / nitrogen is kept shielded away from the hot titanium your welds should be fine. Argon gas keeps the...
