I've done something sort of like that with an endmill, scribed lines, multiple re-clamping, and lots of spinning-o-the-handwheels and counting turns.
As was mentioned, time consuming PITA. Would just knurl it and call it done.

Re: First ATF Ruling of 2015......applies to everyone in this forum!
So here's an interesting thought. As far as I understand it, to get an 07 FFL (etc) the ATF has some requirements that must be met in order for the applicant to qualify as being "in the business" etc, etc. So if they are now defining relatively trivial forms of compensation, or simply temp...

Re: First ATF Ruling of 2015......applies to everyone in this forum!
Well, just read that over (and as usual with such documents, I now have a headache). It seems to apply only to "businesses" - either licensed FFL's or unlicensed machine shops. But still not sure, as it also on occasion seems to treat a "business" and a "person" as the ...

Re: The other Intergrally suppressed sub caliber insert idea.
if you have a ported barrel for the suppressor...the barrel is not a part solely for use in making a silencer...it is also a barrel. So it wouldn't meet the technical definition of a "silencer" (def: a silencer, or any part SOLELY for use as in a silencer). The barrel could be exchanged. ...

Re: The other Intergrally suppressed sub caliber insert idea.
I'm wondering - in an integral suppressor where the barrel is drilled - is the barrel legally considered a "silencer part"? And if it is, would a matched drilled insert or liner also be then considered a silencer part? I believe you are correct because it would be a functioning part of th...

Re: 80% recievers
My only experience with this subject comes from trying to get local shops to heat-treat a finished "80%" M1 carbine receiver. The shops had FFL's - but would not accept the receiver for heat-treating. No specific reasons were given, other than in one case the liability thing. FWIW I won't...

Like, a cheaper vise that turned out being shitty, and you should've bought a high end to begin with? Then ended up with two. Ha ha. Spend the extra $$ on a good vise. A crappy vise will make working miserable. And you''ll want a good one for your future Bridgeport. I put a Kurt D675 on my RF45 'mi...

Darn - at that cost it would make more sense to just pick up an old 6" / 9" South Bend or Atlas. See them in the $400 area around here.

Thanks! I'm going to practice on some PVC pipe. I was having some trouble hitting the half nuts just right on the thread dial. I was always about a half count off. Tony S. I've done a few metric threads by backing out / reversing. I think you'll find the threading dial a lot easier once you get use...

Just a note on the Pelican cases (smaller sizes anyways). I worked with a company several years back that did a project with about 100 smaller sized Pelican cases. We had to immersion test each one, and about 1 in 12 failed the leak test. Test was at 3 feet for 24 hours. Granted the leaks were very ...

But I doubt they'll be on the magnets long enough for any permanent effects. I was more thinking of even just a slight very temporary induced magnetism. I used one of my shop tools (a ruler) that hangs on a magnet as a test. It has a weak magnetism picked up from the magnet. I ran it around in a bi...

A thought on the use of magnets. I use magnets as tool holders all over my shop, and some tools get temporarily magnetized. I'd be concerned about the steel magazines possibly picking up stray junk if they became slightly magnetized. Also not sure I'd put practice time into a method that only applie...
