Re: My boat. And the woes that come with it.

Thanks for the walk bakerjw. :D At some point prior to the dirt nap thing, I intend to live on the Florida coast, and own a sailboat. Have never sailed nor owned a boat, although other family members own power boats/cruisers. Have several books on sailing and have the technicalities, how, whys, fir...

Re: Shell Game, The great AMERICAN con!!!

How many partake in in the holidays while their comments argue against Christianity? Many, and there are many reasons for it. First of all, traditions like these are a part of human nature, it's not tied to one certain religion. All cultures have their festivities, so why shouldn't atheists or agno...

Re: Shell Game, The great AMERICAN con!!!

I am not very vocal about my beliefs, or most personal subjects, but I do always catch myself pondering the same question this time of year. The question always popping up is how many of the people that I see commenting about imaginary god, or making fun of Christians throughout the year have a Chri...

I havent seen much for details on this, but I do remember the CA cops lighting up that truck of ladies delivering papers b/c they were so scared, I still cant believe those women weren't killed. They also shot at another motorist down the street. extremely paranoid behavior. Ofcourse they were being...

Re: My boat. And the woes that come with it.

With my electric trolling motor and a full complement of downriggers and diving boards, I can hit just about 2 MPH at full speed. The battery will last about 4 to 6 hours. With the kicker running gasoline, I will be able to hit 5 or 6 MPH. When I troll at 2 MPH and I hook a lake trout, they are oft...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

That grey wire on the right goes to the pump. It has just two wires. There is no possible way that the pump was connected to the house ground. They may claim they "grounded it" to the well or something. Yeah, that pump needs a ground all the way back to the panel, it has no way to clear f...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

So I see no evidence that ground was even connected. There is a ground wire that was connected to the motor and came to the surface, but then it was spliced into two wires to the pump relay. And then that was connected to the house by three wires. I will ask on Monday, but I think it was just not c...

I can buy 2 conductor plus ground for 80 cents a foot. It is 12 AWG and double-jacketed, but only rated for 75C wet. The only 90C wet cable they have is three conductor plus ground. It is $1.20 a foot. I need 180 feet. I will get this. I will use red and black heat-shrink tubing to re-color code th...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

Thanks Este, Almost all pumps under 5 hp have built in thermal protection "heaters" Anything over that depending on class has separate heaters(located elsewhere) If the impeller locked up the motor should blow these heaters, they are specially for locked (overheated) motors. That motor sho...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

12 gauge should be plenty for a motor that will probably end up being 2-3 amps and less than a 100 foot run. If the motor is, say 2.5 amps, why a 30 amp breaker? Why not a 10 amp? Im just going by the wattage you stated 5500, I see now that was not actual, just a comment, if the motor has a stated ...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

I am not assigning any meaning to 16v. I just said what I know - I could feel electricity, and my multi meter indicated 16v. Evidently I can feel 16v even if others can't. The wire is copper, 12 gauge. The path from the switch to the top of the well is about 15 feet. Then it goes down. The well guy...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

I assume that the well pump is down in a metal casing something like this http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/wsd/images/photos/groundwater/Well_head1.jpg . That affords some protection in the event of a lightning strike but lightning can do some funky things. Just the EMF alone can induce some strong current...

Re: Electrical people - why is my hose electrified?

if your pump is going out it will cause a larger current draw and melt the line and then take out the pump. Wouldn't that trip the circuit braker? Provided its the correct breaker the excess current will trip the breaker,(some breakers will NOT trip ,defective, some old cutler hammers you could wel...

Re: My boat. And the woes that come with it.

Well, I spent an eventful morning in a full body tyvek suit cutting out the floor of the boat. I'd hoped that they'd used a different construction technique than they did, but I dealt with it. I did find out the source of all of the extra weight. Almost all of the plywood was saturated. In the end,...

Re: Legality question for boats

Im not sure about NFA, but you can have firearms on board a boat in international waters. You can even go to port in some foreign countries with them. Bahamas for example, you have to declare it, then fill out the paperwork when you clear in, stating EXACTLY how many rounds you have, and better have...
