I know that muzzle pressure will vary based on cartridge, barrel length, projectile weight, powder and more. Wondering if someone has some ballpark numbers for:
50 cal, 29" barrel
338 Lapua 26" barrel
300WM 26 barrel
308 20 barrel
308 16 barrel
5.56 16 barrel
5.56 10" barrel

Re: 300 BLK Velocity by the inch
I would prefer that you also hold the subsonic test to a constant to see the dropoff of speed for subsonics too as the barrel is shortened. You can always change the cartridge powder charge for the subsonic load at the shortest barrel length to achieve 1050 fps to compare it to the 16" barrel....

300 BLK Velocity by the inch
I am in the process of getting my first suppressor. It will be a multiuse can (Griffin Bushwhacker 46), but my initial focus will be on suppressing my 300 Blackout. I currently have a Sig MCX Gen2 rifle - 16" barrel. To me a 300 BLK does not need anything close to a 16" barrel. So I am goi...

Can a .30 Cal Suppressor be used on a Rimfire?
I wan't to get a suppressor for my 300 Blackout. Have not picked teh supressor yet, but will want something that I can put on a .308 & 300WM as well.
I know that rimfires are alot dirtier. Will I be able to use a high power rifle suppressor on a rimfire rifle?

Re: Barrel Shroud to Avoid SBR Designation
It is legal to permanently affix a muzzle attachment onto a short barrel to reach the minimum barrel length. Silver solder, welding, or pin/weld is accepted methods of achieving such. I remember someone doing the same thing on Ruger 10/22's a few years back. At this point I am planning on a aluminu...

Optimal Length for 300 BLK
I will be cutting down my 16” barrel on my 300BLK Sig MPX and permanently installing a shroud to keep the ‘barrel length’ over 16 inches. I will be shooing mostly suppressed & mostly supersonic. I will however shoot some supersonic, where I will want maximum energy/velocity. I know that a 9” bar...

Barrel Shroud to Avoid SBR Designation
I will be cutting down my 16” barrel on my 300BLK Sig MPX to somewhere around 9” and permanently installing a long muzzle shroud to keep the ‘barrel length’ over 16 inches. The barrel will be threaded (5/8-24) and the shroud have a large enough ID so that I can install a suppressor inside the shroud...

Looking for General .30 Cal Purpose Silencer
Will put this silencer on anything from 300 BlackOut to 300 WinMag. Looking for best noise suppression performance and for recoil reduction in the case of the 300 WinMag. Plan on shooting subsonic & supersonic. Size not a big consideration. Currently am thinking about Thunder Beast Ultra 9 or eq...

22 Suppressor for rifle & pistol
I want to purchase a suppressor that would be used on both rifle and pistol. I would plan on shooting subsonic ammo and be after maximum sound suppression. Would want to keep it a long time so I am thinking about a non-aluminum monocore for serviceability. What would be some good choices for a quiet...

Milling Machine w/ Rotary Table to Turn Baffles?
Can a manual milling machine w/ a rotary table be used to turn stepped baffles? I need to get a milling machine for other work & it would be nice if I can use it to make a suppressor (and just get the tube machined somewhere on a lathe).

Compromises in building a Combo 9mm SMG & 300 BLK Suppressor
What would be the compromises in building a combo 9mm/300 BLK suppressor? The the barrel length for both would be 8". Obviously, the 300 BLK would generate more muzzle pressure, so the suppressor would end up being heavier. I am guessing that the suppressor would end up being 9" long and a...

Re: Buying a Lathe/Milling Machine
I started with a Chinese 7x lathe, and later a table top mini mill. I quickly outgrew both, and upgraded the 7x to a beefier 8x lathe. I retrofitted the 8x variable speed, and although better, I also outgrew it quickly. I then bought a new PM 12x36 lathe (basically the Grizzly gunsmith lathe), and ...

Re: Sig MCX vs. MPX
The primary use would be to get some cheaper AR training (appleseed type of courses) while shooting subsonic. Really a quiet plinker. Sounds like a MPX would be a better overall choice.

Re: 9mm vs 300 Blackout/Whisper Suppressed....bear with me.
Seriously though. I have both. If you are looking for a quiet, inexpensive paper puncher. The 9 is hard to beat. As others have stated though, the ballistics of a sub-sonic 9 worry me a bit, particular when you are talking about shooting at any distance beyond 100 yds. I believe the 300 is all arou...

Re: 9mm Carbine Design
If you want it to handle .308 then forget aluminum. Thank you. That was my whole point. OP, Even if you do build it with thick enough aluminum parts to not crush under the pressure, heat and erosion from rifle calibers would destroy it in short order. You can build a steel 9mm silencer and use it o...

Re: 9mm Carbine Design
If it doesn't handle +p 9mm, it's sure not going to handle 7.62 and 556 rifle calibers that you mentioned. If that is still your plan, you need to plan building a steel 9mm silencer. Or otherwise known as an overbored 308 silencer. Are most 9mm silencers aluminum? Also, most 9mm seem to have k baff...

Would not intend to shoot +p, just would want to make sure that the suppressor was designed to take the pressure.John A. wrote:Why would you want to shoot +p 9mm ammo through a suppressor?
Even with an 8 inch barrel, it's going to go supersonic, and sound suppression is going to suck.
