Re: looking for help on my first build

Or do all Stainless and worst case, if it seals shut due to carbon and lead fouling you can use "the dip" to clean it out and then reassemble.

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

A few more of the SS baffles.... Thanks for the help with getting these little guys chucked up and indicated. Worked like a charm. Still waiting on ball end mill bit..... :| http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/cms81586/bss4_zps585ccc2b.png http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/cms81586/bss3_zps0ba9641...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

cms81586 you have abandoned your original design and it sounded very cool. :( I haven't abandoned it...just experimenting with different options. 4 baffles wasn't enough (even with wipes and an ablative) to get the report down to an acceptable level with a handgun. It proved very effective on a rif...

Appreciate the reply. That's actually very helpful and ill give it a shot when I go to cut the faces of the baffles. Thanks!

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Need to get some good SS tube to go along with the baffles. This is what happens when you don't use stainless, shoot a can wet, and don't disassemble for cleaning... http://i2.photobucket.com/albums/y7/cms81586/micro1_zps3a2e7c6f.jpg Here's the start of the new SS baffles.... facing before reducing ...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Turned some baffles in 304 this week. Going for a slightly different configuration with porting the K's. Waiting on a 1/4" ball end mill bit to do the work. Won't be anything earth shattering but should increase durability. I'm thinking of tig welding it up. All stainless...no reason not to and...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Braved the weather? It was 78* here yesterday in sunny AZ. Best part about winter is watching it from Arizona. Otherwise, no updates as of late. Working on stuffing a 5th baffle in there and hopefully adding less than 1/4" to the OAL. Trying to get better performance out of it on the pistol wit...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

I agree. I think the material plays a part in it too. The rubber matting I got has a lot of elasticity, much like a bicycle inner tube. I'm going to try something a little stiffer like one of the silicone pot pads Historian recommended as well.

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Shot it today with wipes. Wiped and wet (with wire pulling gel) , it was very comparable to my AAC Pilot. Not great but acceptable. I did experience some bullet destabilization with the rubber gasket wipe (2 out of 15 shots). I'm going to try a few other materials including vinyl to see if it will p...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

My 10/22 and my Savage will do the same thing with the Spectre but probably not through a wipe. :D But if you can coerce someone into making a top performing teeny tiny can (wiped or not) with no accuracy loss I would eagerly join your band wagon to purchase it. It would be a game changer. :mrgreen...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Got it together today...VERY pleased with how it sounds on a rifle. Dare I say little discernible difference from my pilot and sparrow out in the open, which are quite a bit larger. It's louder than I want on the pistol...but haven't shot it wet or wiped yet so we'll see... Video on both the rifle a...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

I'll be testing the tube/baffles in a week or so once finished. I'll test it dry and wet...wipes and none. Going to start with some vinyl at first for wipes and see what else it out there as well. I'm not sure what kind of affect the wipe will have on accuracy. Obviously it's not going to produce t...

Re: Integral captive bolt revolver

IIRC this was done during Vietnam. I remember reading an article about "tunnel rats" in SAR and the captive piston revolver. Unfortunately each round was considered a suppressor. If not for that I don't see why it couldn't be a decent option for a suppressed revolver besides the Nagant. CMS

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Really not sure. Ill definitely go with one on the blast baffle. I may make a few others with Dater holes to try out throughout the stack, but the can is so abbreviated I'm not sure that it'll be beneficial.

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Got the endcap done today. Need to trim a baffle, clean up some exterior machining... and finish the baffles. Got a ball end mill tool on order for the mouse holes and will do the dater hole(s) at the same time. Might get to do some initial testing on Sunday.

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Why did you choose a .280 bore for the main aperture? 3 reasons really. 1) I'm new at this. 2) Started by rationalizing that it was the same bore diameter on the AAC Pilot I have....(which will likely make its way to you some time for a recore since it's got 25k+ rounds through it and is loud as he...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

More progress. The dimples on the endcap will be gone after I turn it to about 1/2 its current width. They're just for ease of removal after life fire testing. I'll likely mill a slot or make a spanner wrench hole. The baffles all have a .280" bore and the endcap has a .320" bore to allow ...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Liking the concept but any concern over the ablative that gets introduced in this way obstructing the bullets path? As far as the wipes impacting accuracy I know Jim DeGroat passed along a few points in a old thread about shooting 22LR through the NANO I'll likely go with a 1/8" port into the ...

Re: Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

When I get to the final version after some testing it will live on a Beretta 21A. It'll be a full inch shorter than the TM Wasp, although a little fatter at a about 0.95" OD. With 4 baffles it "should" be comparable or a little quieter than the WASP when run wet. Wet with a wipe...com...

Interesting .22LR Micro Can build...

Started this last week. It's a short (3" OAL planned when completed) .22LR micro can with 4 K-baffles. The blast baffle has an integrated blast chamber and all baffles snap together. The endcap will be a dual thread concept...both male threads. One end will thread into the can. The other side w...
