K baffle general questions

My search-fu is a bit off. I seem to recall a post quite some time ago referencing the concentric depressions adjacent the bore in the plate of the K baffle. I believe Bender had indicated at the time that these depressions do increase overall performance of the baffle. I cannot locate that post. I ...

I had read here that the k baffle attributes should be done same diameter to the bore.

Re: I finally finished my form1 can

Guessing in 300BLK? 5744 or 1680 would be a good choice of powder, I am using 208 A-Max with good result. Have had good luck using Hornaday 220 rn in sub .308. Do you have any concerns with leading up like .22 lr.

Re: Form 1 for Subsonic AK

Is this going to be a direct muzzle mounted project??? Only reason for asking is there is a good chance of mis-alignment depending on how you plan to square it to the bore. Backing it against the sight tower may not be optimal. It may not be square to the bore. There are plenty of leaks in the syste...

Re: Form 1 question

That is certainly interesting info. I guess the real question is how could anyone know what the exit pressure is. That'd be the only determining factor if an AL tube (albeit a thick one)would be able to handle the exit blast. I'm sure it was greatly reduced over a full load though. I believe the qu...

Re: Form 1 question

What I can tell you is this...I loaded some experimental loads the other day. I had some 7.62x39 training ammo. I pulled it down and re-loaded it with 13.5 grains of AA5744 under some 174 grain SMK .311 diameter bullets. Accuracy was good and there was no evidence of key holing. Velocity was in the ...

Re: bore size question

Something else to consider is that tighter bores can increase backpressure. Bolt gun no real issue. Gas Gun....increased bolt velocity, increased port noise. Some have done progressive bore sizing....smaller blast baffle bore progressively increasing in diameter out the suppressor muzzle. Can be ben...

Re: Building Suppressor for 18" .338LM

I would suggest it should be a welded design. You will also need to be aware of baffle stack crush and erosion...there is the initial radial expansion on the tube then the forward push on the baffles. The shorter barrel and large powder volume will contribute to a somewhat accelerated erosion cycle....

Re: Building Suppressor for 18" .338LM

Muzzle pressure should definitely be considered. I had the same issues and concerns with a 16.5 inch .308.....was looking as something like 12,000 psi at the muzzle. 338 Lapua at 18 inches.....definitely need to at least think about that.

Re: Using Saker MAAD mount

Honestly, I can't find some earth shaking advantage to qd ....besides the cool factor of making it yourself maybe. I mean, I put in 30 to 60 hours in machining a can. What the hell is 10 more seconds to put it on or take it off? I've never had a can unscrew itself. I'm kinda ocd about checking thou...

Re: K Baffle questions

7075 is stronger and even easier to machine. Only disadvantage I can think of is it costs a little more but still inexpensive compared to many materials. Check out Stock Car Steel for good AL prices in small qty. They are quick to ship and shipping fees are reasonable. Last time I compared round ba...

Re: K Baffle questions

Very cool concept but have veered somewhat of the topic of baffle wall thickness....any suggestions? Shift, I would not hesitate to do a 7075 K baffle in .22LR .060" thickness. With that said, if it were me, I would consider a stainless blast baffle .050" thick, with the rest Aluminum. It...

Re: K Baffle questions

So....in a .22 lr application, what would be a safe baffle wall dimension for aluminum? Have worked in stainless mostly and been using .060 for a guideline for centerfire baffles and tubing. Are you Type3 anodizing it or just raw aluminum? Since it is a Form1 can I will assume 6061? No legal change...

Re: 3 (or more) lug mount form 1?

yup...those work well. Issue is if you buy several to move can from host to host, you may run into some tolerance issues from part to part. Twist lock mounts add a good chunk of weight.....have done a couple. Need to be mindful of patents....
