It could be determined by purchasing/acquiring other manufacturers' cans, taking them apart, and then measuring their bores. But I am still unconvinced (either way) of whether the "tight bore" is actually an issue or just a character trait of HTG's designs.

I believe that depends on the make/model. The one of the models I saw had a 1,3,5 minute display time for the hidden screen, or you could choose to have it on all the time.
