Re: Commercial vs "kit" vs "diy"

I'm still too paranoid to buy the parts and assemble into a can... since my intent is to make a can not a solvent trap. I thought form 1 required you to build it, not assemble it. Maybe I'm wrong and just overly paranoid. It is perfectly legal to turn a solvent trap into a suppressor, provided you ...

Here's the page I found that jig on, not sure which circles you're asking about, this page explains the guys whole set up.

monocore machining?

When machining a monocore is something as robust as this needed? Or would simply clamping the bar stock between some V blocks suffice?

Re: 223 K baffles?

I only reason I asked was I remembered seeing it in the past but couldn't locate where. Most likely the Capt's post. Welding and threading the tube sounds like it might be too much work for me.

223 K baffles?

Anyone done this? If so wouldn't they have to be beefier around the cone/disk joint area?

What if all you are shooting is 115gr supers on a 16" sbr? Never putting it on a pistol... Just curious as I'm waiting on a dedicated 9mm form to come home.

9mm gemtech booster length

Does anyone know how much length the Gemtech LID adds to the length of suppressor when attached to the tube?

Filling out a form 1 for a 9mm and I don't want to go too short or too long on the OAL.

Re: Low Weight 300Blk Can - Ti and 17-4

Approval from them was easy, I emailed saying I wanted to build a one off using their Omega and they said I had permission to build 1 can with it. Printed that and threw it in the safe with the original tax stamp.

Re: . 22 Can Baffles again

I've shot the Spectre next to the Spectre II, the 2nd gen is definitely more quiet. Close but not quite, meter has shown that the Spectre1 still has better performance than the Spectre2 but not by much. I am not familiar with the can/s running the specter I style baffles. Are they the same general ...

I Cerakote ceramic sprayed my 22 baffles. They clean up pretty easy.

Locktite and pressure against the baffle stack hold mine in just fine. Never had an issue after many many rounds.

Re: Stainless sheet forming

I'd seen that video on metal spinning before I just forgot about it. I may go to the local metal shop and get a small sheet of 304ss and try and rig something up. My biggest issue is lack of metallurgy knowledge on which metals are able to be used in forming / spinning.

Re: Stainless sheet forming

That's all I needed to know, I won't even waste my gopro battery on it let alone money buying materials. Do you have any sources to look at for stainless sheets that are good to form? I've seen people shaping the SS freeze plugs. I just wanted to try and do something different than a freeze plug.

Re: Stainless sheet forming

I'm thinking more along the lines of a 20 ton shop press, not a bench vice and cheater bar. Is the 165,000 psi measured on a 1" thick piece of material, where as bending for example a .1" piece of sheet you're working on 1/10th of 165k? I'm not sure how all that works out.

Stainless sheet forming

Does anyone know if you could use a set of dies and press baffles similar to this guy,

http://youtu.be/c1b6mthrUJc

But using 17-4ph annealed sheet? Then after they were shaped heat them up to 900 for heat treating.

Thanks,
Matt

Out of curiosity, do you not have to worry about 4140 rusting on the inside of the can?
