Re: Two machines or one?

You can actually do all of it on a mill...just gotta know how to set it up for each operation...if you go CNC, which I really like the Microkinetics CNC mill and lathe, you can use a 4th axis rotary for your lathe on your mill... http://youtu.be/2KNit__LJE4

Might be a 9/16-24...there are different sizes per caliber...As for the replies that are rude...get use to it. Its usually the same smarta$$ on here that really isn't a machinist or served an apprenticeship. Ignore 'em and pay atentiononly to those that want to help without being a d*%k

Re: engraving tool question

Apparently, you haven't done it before because it works GREAT. I have been machining for over 30 years and have plenty of experience. Not everyone has a endless supply of cash like Blundersquirt. You need to get some real life machining experience. You don't know everything about machining and some ...

Re: engraving tool question

With access to cnc mill, use a center drill...I have used them to engrave A LOT of stuff from polyc to Ti. Cheap, work great.

Try looking at www.Microkinetics.com . They have small home shop cnc machines that are pretty darn good. I haven't found anything that I couldn't handle yet.....and very accurate

Re: Savage MK2

Am I correct in inferring that your chuck has a way to prevent its unscrewing from the spindle when run in reverse, such as with 'set screws' of some sort? The reason I am asking is that with my Atlas 618 door stop, erring on the side of caution, when I first tried to do this as an exercise, I place...

Re: How NOT to thread a barrel Video!

great video of CNC Lathe but how did he compensate for barrel whip on the chamber end? It will not be accurate if there is a barrel whipping around in the head stock of the machine.

I have counter bored, bored and then used counter sink to clean up the smaller diameter inside

Re: Savage MK2

you can thread with lathe running in reverse and it will still have the driving force down on the ways and you can cut from inside near shoulder out...no worries about hitting shoulder

Re: G23 .40 Suppressor design progress

Understand the scoop being cut with the ball end...just a little confused about the area leading to the outside of the baffle to vent the gas....Delta cleared it up for me....just was looking at doing the op a different way and it didn't click in the brain housing group....ty

will try it with different end mills and see...I listen but will throw questions/comments in here and there regardless when I have some doubts on a particular op. or tooling used.

maybe for the rear of the baffle for the "ramp" area for gas flow but def. not the side of the K or any other area similar in design to that

Re: G23 .40 Suppressor design progress

not sure I would use the ball end mill...not plunge cutting. you can use a "pot chuck" in your mill then plunge mill with a center cutting end mill with better results IMHO. Easier setup for op too.

Superchuck...you are correct Sir. IMHO...VERY well put. A little larger is more beneficial for the integrity of the baffle for that area.

Re: Thoughts on adhesive for 22 suppresors

too much on the end cap diameter and too little i.d. on the tube will result in a rupture from stressing the parts that much. Not sure why "gluing" a end cap is a good idea. you could always rough it in and then weld it and then finish machine it. You can weld it with very little warp if y...

Re: Question on 3 jaw chuck

I get extremely accurate work out of mine. Ya just have to know what you are doing when you set them up. Also, if you have a lathe and know what you are doing building a simple collet chuck (if you really need one) that goes through your headstock isn't that difficult to build and will be more accur...

Yeah they are great...too many possiblities to list for uses...very adaptable...again, Can't go wrong with these. well worth the small investment. Home shop machinists and gun enthusiasts scrimp, save, borrow what they can. I can't afford much in this economy but these are affordable

Re: Question on 3 jaw chuck

You can get a 5c collet chuck and step collet that woould cost about $50.00 on ebay. I have used these for many many years. They work GREAT and fast for set-ups. No need to spend $800 to over $1800. You can get them hex and sqaure to use with 3 and 4 jaw chucks. Can't go wrong with these chucks
