Re: .22LR Subsonic dB's ?
Everyone thinks that once they have superior equipment, everyone with lesser equipment is doing absolutely no good. The folks in the article you mentioned have a very nice setup that smokes any of these cheap $5k meters that are typically used for silencers. Did Paul's meter show him a difference be...

Re: .22LR Subsonic dB's ?
Yes, your assumptions are correct. As far as your meter's ability goes, most will say that it's no good because it's not sensitive enough. I disagree. If you're not looking to compare with others, and only want a before and after, then your meter will likely do just fine. Just because a microphone i...

150+ on a pistol, 140 on a rifle.
And as taz said, you're mileage may vary depending on action type and barrel length.

Re: Supressor Baffle Pics!
There are a few problems with your theory... Flat blades like those on an alternator work by imparting radial motion into the gas, which the centrifugal force moves it away from the center. Same thing with a squirrel cage fan. I suppose if your silencer was spinning at a high rate of speed while yo...

Re: Supressor Baffle Pics!
In theory, I could see some advantages. Like you said though, it's finding a way to machine it. My milling capabilities currently stink. But with a good mill and two rotary tables, it should be fairly easy. But in theory, you're giving the gasses a longer path to flow, and you're changing their dire...

Re: Supressor Baffle Pics!
On the note of "the gasses can't be spun": If they can't be spun because it's just a pressure vessel, then we might as well be using just tubes with no baffles. And in that case, I guess we can't divert gasses, and put them in coaxial chambers, and anything else that works. So yes, I'd say...

Re: 5.56
Interesting that the end took the color. Knurls can be a bitch. Its the speed and feed rates but as you said....Diameter also has an effect. True dat, about the color. Wonder if that's just because it's on a 7" barrel, so the gasses are still burning quite a bit. Maybe one day I'll get to test...

Re: 5.56
Shot it today. It's not neighborhood quiet(like a silenced 22), but it's quiet enough to not need hearing protection. This is on a 7.3" barrel, so I'm fairly impressed. Actually, I'm impressed that it didin't blow up. When I first shot it, I put on a leather jacket zipped all the way up, shooti...

They're the only ones that would need the NDA. You demo the can. If they're impressed, "Hand me money, I hand you the can and certify that you'll be able to open it without distroying it."

Re: Need internal threading tool suggestions
When I'm feeling lazy, and I happen to have the tap, I sometimes only thread with the tap. I chuck whatever it is in the lathe, then use a center in the tailstock to push the tap in straight. Also, like Ron said, my dies are pretty flat on one side, so to finish up to the shoulder, I run them up to ...

Re: Integral Encore in 44
I think your thinking is correct, though the bullet will probably start to slow back down once it passes the ports, but is still pressed into the rifling. That happens with 22's. They slow back down if the barrel is long. So your velocity would be a bit slower than a normal 6", whereas if the b...

Re: Magnum Research Mountain Eagle 22lr
For backyard shooting, I do recommend you to buy a Pistol that cycles and doesn’t jam with Subsonic ammo (with the Can in, of course). Good point. The subs do help quite a bit. I've always assumed that the best silencers could get the HV ammo quiet out of a pistol, but I don't know that for a fact....

Re: Magnum Research Mountain Eagle 22lr
Buy a walther p22 or a ruger or a browning, etc. On that note. The Walther was my first pistol, and it is extremely easy to suppress. Just buy an adapter. They're cheap. But I can't recommend the Walther any more. Maybe for someone who doesn't get to shoot much. But if you're able to plink in your ...

Re: Magnum Research Mountain Eagle 22lr
I don't know that gun, and what your barrel options are, but since the muzzle isnt' really exposed, it's hard to thread something on there. You need to research adding an extended barrel to it so that you can attach something. When you run a silencer "wet", it's generaly quieter. When I wa...

Re: Magnum Research Mountain Eagle 22lr
I don't know about the gun's ability to take a silencer. Doesn't look like it'd be a good candidate. Might I suggest a rifle? With pistols and neighbors, you'll need either a top of the line silencer, or an overly large silencer to get it quiet enough. With a rifle, pretty much any silencer will do....

Here's pics of the HTG that inspired the milling: http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=588050#p588050 AAC inspired the angle of the front section. interesting take on k baffles. what is the commercial can your bro has. fess up! Lol. I'm the only one with a silencer(s) in the places I shoot. Re: 5.56
I doubt I'll weld it. It's threaded 24tpi on the rear, and 28 on the front. I buggered the threads slightly on the front cap, so it is loctited using a high strength loctite(638). If it gives me problems, I might weld that part. The TAC 16 is threaded, and uses .065 tube also, so I think I'm fine as...

Now, I won't have any "oooo, this is much quieter than my buddy's commercial can". Because I haven't finished building my AR yet. The AR is an SBR. But it's quite a ways off. So I will only be shooting 22LR through this for a month or two,.....and of course it will be extremely quiet. It's...

Re: Success - K baffle 22 suppressor with photos
Using your first pic for orientation: That hole ABOVE the bore should be milled from the right hand side, and should not pierce through to the left hand side. Use a ball mill to make it look like the others. Coming from the left hand side of that pic, with a ball mill, do the same exact thing BELOW ...

Can III, but with CanII's blast chamber, except turn the blast chamber down to something like halfway between the bore and the can. So you get the effect of the ports, but more volume. I used the "double slant" on my K's also. Haven't cut the ports yet. Rather than the ball mill from the b...
