Re: My first (ever) suppressor design - .300blk

Bender you recommended changing the baffle design are you saying to step away from the stepped cones (pun intended) or get away from the coaxial spacers to avoid IP/patent issues? Yes....both. Primarily recommending to get away from the Omega baffle design, Other baffle designs are better suited fo...

Re: My first (ever) suppressor design - .300blk

TI tube, inset end caps, and thinned blast baffle. Estimated weight is now 14.9oz. Given the absurd strength/weight ratio of TI vs SS, the tube could probably be thinned down to .050 from .065 (or more, if one wanted to push it) but a < 1lb DIY "rifle" can is already nothing to sneeze at. The end ca...

Re: My first (ever) suppressor design - .300blk

Thank you everyone for your design feedback. It is very appreciated! looking at your drawing, taking one spacer and one baffle together look like a single "Omega" baffle. That is what the patent is for, not stepped cones. http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=121887 Where did you ge...

Re: My first (ever) suppressor design - .300blk

Might want to check with Joe Gaddini before you start making that. why did he do one that was just like that? He owns the patent. I was not aware that there is a patent on stepped cone baffles, and given that there are dozens of threads about cans on here with them that weren't derailed about paten...

My first (ever) suppressor design - .300blk

Given my interest in taking on new and interesting projects, a friend of mine recently asked me to design a suppressor for his .300blk rifle (he's looked for commercially available cans, but has found none which fit his constraints so we're going to go the F1 route). That being said, this is the fir...

Re: Big bore AR: 50 beowulf, 458 socom, or 450 bushmaster?

The .458 does in fact use standard mags; the issue with the polymer mags in the .458 is that some load combinations (such as those with hornady SST bullets) won't fit (COAL is too long) because of the front rib in the magazine. JHP's and flat-point JSP's are typically fine though. It really is a hec...

Re: NFA question

That makes me hopeful I might see my Salvo stamp in the next couple weeks. I've got a heck of an itch to play with it finally (the Salvo wait has been about as irksome as the wait on my first MG). Should be quite the hoot to run at my local subgun/"3-gun" match! Now I just need to round out my demo ...

Re: And now, from the city of Chicago...

What really irks me about it is that when I was a kid, I remember being told that the police were here to help good citizens. As I've gotten older, however, that image has not continued to withstand the test of time. Even worse, today it seems as if many cops (obviously not all...) are nothing more ...

ATF is mailing back stamps for F4's submitted in mid-March; that'd put you about 2-3 weeks out from  .

Re: cheap cnc machine

You could "get away" with something like an X2 mini-mill converted to CNC, but even that is going to be pushing it. Realistically, for what you're looking to do (making baffles), you'd be better off with an older manual bench lathe like a Logan or South Bend. If you've got the space for something li...

Re: Handguns and drones

If that is a software controlled solenoid pulling the trigger, I think that counts as a machine gun. How so? One shot fired per pull. If it was configured such that you used a momentary switch on the radio, and holding that switch fired more than one round (thus the switch being the trigger), then ...

Just spoke to a very nice woman at ATF yesterday on the phone. It's summer, and a number of the people handling Form 3/4s are on vacation with the kiddos! Yay... Current turn time on a Trust Form 4 is back to 5-6 months. FML JW Silencer shop is currently showing 4-4.5 months for their form 4's, but...

Re: Handguns and drones

At one point (in the 90's), one would find kits in hobby catalogs (Tower or such) which facilitated the attachment of .22 rifles to the larger R/C helicopters; at that time there was never any worry back then about if it might be illegal. I can't imagine that it somehow made it on the books between ...

Re: Are there women really that bothered by their husbands viewing pics?

Opposite views on "relationship fundamentals" (money, sex, child rearing, religion) don't tend to mix/end very well. E.g. If one spouse enjoys such things and the other is offended by it, they're probably in a doomed relationship anyway. If you like porn and she doesn't, it's time to move on and fin...

Re: $200 Form 4 Tax

The idea of the trust bank account for the transfer tax check is "legal CYA" so that there can be no argument that the trust purchased the item vs. the individual. When I couldn't get a bank to open a trust account without major headaches, I asked my trust attorney about it and they suggested in the...

Re: Big bore AR: 50 beowulf, 458 socom, or 450 bushmaster?

So far as I recall, all three are proprietary brass. Back when I was faced with the same decision some years ago, I ended up opting for the .458. Reason being that while store-bought ammo could be had for the .50 Beo, (at the time) the .50 was limited to pistol-caliber bullets which had jacket separ...

68% of likely voters prefer living in a neighborhood where gun ownership is allowed. 22% prefer living in a neighborhood where nobody was allowed to own a gun. And the remaining 10%... don't want to live in a neighborhood? From a different news article, the other 10% were the undecided folks (e.g. ...
