Nope. Both are 22 lr, build em, look down the bore (following all gun safety protocols of course), shoot it.

About 5 7/8". I could probably face another 1/8" off of the end caps if I was being super fussy about it being short as possible.pinklbd wrote:Looks and sounds great!!! I am getting ready to send my trust along with my first form in for a can. What was the total length that your can ended up at.

Re: My first milling machine!
I've watched Kurt vises on Ebay. The smaller ones go for near full new prices. BUT, the big ones (like the ones you'll use on a Bridgeport J head) are surprisingly cheep. The Kurt II PT400 is an awesome little vise for a mill/drill. I have one on my Millrite and love it. Sometimes you get lucky on ...

Re: Yuasa vertical mill anyone?
I'd also put an end mill in the collet, snug it up and check the runout with an indicator. On my Millrite, someone had spun a collet or two and the runout was over .003". I managed to set up a grinder and get it down to .001", which is manageable with larger cutters, but was a PITA with an...

Re: What causes this type surface finish
Speaking of light cuts and crappy finishes...... Go here; http://www.conradhoffman.com/advancedsharp.htm and read about the lathe shear tool. I used it to finish the od of my Ti f1 build and it worked great for taking off a whisper thin amount and gave a real good finish. It has limitations, but if ...

Re: Punkinhead's build plan
OK. I've shortened up the blast chamber to 5/16", I'll use the 0.049" wall tube, the baffles won't interlock, and I'll slide the last baffle into the end cap. Here's some screen shots: http://home.comcast.net/~gratuitousflatulence/Suppressor/overall1.JPG http://home.comcast.net/~gratuitou...

Re: Titanium cutting confusion
I think you are over thinking this. Go put some Ti in your lathe and try things until you find what works best on your machine. You are right, keep the surface speed slow and the feed rate not slow (I would't say fast). Sharpen your bits like you always do and see if they work. -Jim This the way I ...

[snip] I'd really like to earn how silencers work, not just copy something on the forum. I've lurked here a while without signing up, and in my lurking have found a couple designs that have similar 'pointy' baffles closer to the muzzle, with other designs further out, so I just started there with m...

Re: Plastic bottle
Pretty much every time I take one or more of my suppressed centerfire rifles to the local Rod and Gun Club, some codger has to come up to me and inform me that I could have just used an empty soda bottle or, my favorite, a potato and it would have been just as effective. I've given up arguing with ...

Put a VQ sear, a hammer bushing (to kill off the mag disconnect), and adjustable trigger in that gun and you'll like it better. A LOT better.

Re: Tooling for cutting Titanium???
Whatever you use be careful taking very light cuts. It work hardens worse than about anything I've worked with. I didn't notice much problem with that, but I kept the rpm down and the tools very sharp. I was taking whisper thin finishing cuts on the OD with a tool ground like this. http://www.gadge...

Re: Tooling for cutting Titanium???
I used HSS for mine. Ground them to shape and then hand honed with a fine stone. I ran the lathe at a lower rpm than I would for plain steel and it all seemed to work pretty well. My chips were stringy as hell though, that was the worst part of turning Ti for me. Some folks have warned of titanium'...

Did you cut that small slot in the face to that you could use it for indexing the ports?
Gunny
Yes. I should have cut the tabs a little taller though, it's kind of fiddly to put it together with the shallow notches.
