Thanks for the info, very nice!
By the way, seeing as you are also in London, if you would like to get that Sterling X-rayed I can do it for you (provided I also get copies of the images).
I X-ray all sorts of firearms related stuff, especially suppressors.

Re: Welrod X-Rays
Cool radiograph. To be complete, you need another view at 90 degrees from that one (would require supporting the gun with pads). Edit: sorry, didn't see the second view, ignore me!
I've X-rayed a fair amount of "stuff" in my time and these things are always of interest to me!

Re: Extreme POI shift after 1st shot
I found out the hard way that a bad washer or gasket can cause major POI changes. Any sort of asymmetrical "set" can make it very bad indeed. I had a rubber gasket between an adapter and my barrel (.22LR rifle and a UNF to UNEF converter, hosting an ASE-Utra Dual Rimfire can). I couldn't e...

Re: Anyone use packing?
The Hogan Decimeater (in the UK) uses some kind of packing similar to a scotchbrite pad, but softer: https://i.imgur.com/dcH0IjR.jpg https://i.imgur.com/sJVljJx.jpg Here's the radiograph of the assembled can: https://i.imgur.com/JgCvAux.jpg That one is mine. Re: Modular silencer legality
Correct, the reflex tube cannot retain gas without the diffuser. The reflex tube gets gas entry via holes in the bridge. See here for a view of the bridge after 100 rounds have been fired through the suppressor:

Re: Modular silencer legality
Would it be legal for a manufacturer to make a "modular" silencer? As in its a two piece silencer with one tube threading into the other. The caps are interchangeable between the two tubes and the baffles are individual stacked cones. The manufacturer also provides different front caps an...

ATEC CMM4(6) Suppressor Test: now at 23000 Rounds!
You guys might recall I started abusing this suppressor in January last year. I have just posted part 3 of the test on LinkedIn. Here is the update at 23000 rounds:

Cheapest way to get accurate lead quantity tests on suppressor residue?
I want to find out what percentage of the residues (by weight) is lead in each of the six baffles on my A-TEC CMM4(6). I will do this at the end of my testing, so it is a one-off procedure for this can which already has 10,000 rounds through it (.22LR) Getting the residues into 6 little containers i...

I have an A-TEC CMM4(6) which is a similar design. It has had 10,000 rounds through it (.22LR) and the sections have not come loose.

Re: Custom container/carry case for 10 suppressors
Ok, sounds like you're going to need a 'mission specific' container made for you. Are you involved in the T&E of ammunition & suppressors? Yep, see here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/lead-deposition-a-tec-cmm46-rimfire-suppressor-part-1-bertolli Thanks for the links to the threaded rod, I...

Re: Custom container/carry case for 10 suppressors
I can't use the foam case unfortunately. For two reasons:
1) I can't disturb residues on the end cap of the suppressor
2) I need to be able to see and collect any residues that fall out of each suppressor in transit
Also that box doesn't help me with the X-rays.

Custom container/carry case for 10 suppressors
I need to make a container or have a container made, to safely store 10 suppressors in individual enclosures. When stored, the suppressors must not touch any part of the container except at the base thread. I can't secure them by means of a central rod through each suppressor because I must not dist...

Re: A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
We'd need more info on storage conditions, rough handling during transit, use, etc before we could make any guesses founded in science. But I think that he is correct about the findings, results, conclusions surrounding lead buildup and retention. You are correct, all movement makes a difference. A...

Re: A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
The other thing to note is that the native format of the images is DICOM. A radiologist or a radiographer evaluating these images would be doing so with the appropriate DICOM viewer, where you can better manipulate the images in terms of the window width and level. To simplify the explanation, the v...

Re: A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
Something else which I notice, the endcaps are more radio-opaque @0rds than after use. This is an artifact of "Digital" radiography. The contrast auto-changes to give greater clarity to the lead deposits. Otherwise, they would be far "darker" than we would be able to see the det...

Re: A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
Now at 5000 rounds: http://i.imgur.com/2e9OI63.jpg You can see when comparing the end baffle zone at 4500 rounds to 4000, at least three large pieces of lead were ejected from the suppressor. This helps explain how the weight of the suppressor can fluctuate. Note that the overall trend is still upwa...

Re: A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
I suspect you will find that lead is not most of the problem, carbon hard almost glass hard like material from powder burn will be the most of the build up filling every nook and cranny locking things up solid. I doubt that, since I don't find deposits like that in my other suppressors which I do t...

Re: A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
That is odd, part of the benefit with these suppressors are the the ability to adjust the length by adding or removing modules. But they must be cleaned quite regularly or else they seize up. Most people just set them up to the desired length and let them be, but if the modules are loosened after e...

A-TEC CMM4(6) Rimfire Suppressor Lead Deposition
I bought an A-TEC CMM4 suppressor configured with 6 baffles. This is a rimfire suppressor currently on my SIG522. I've been weighing it and X-raying it after every 500 rounds, no cleaning. Part 1 of my observations can be found here: https://www.linkedin.com/pulse/lead-deposition-a-tec-cmm46-rimfire...
