Re: Lathe purchase
Threading rifle or pistol barrels? If rifle barrels, always separate from action? For your suppressor projects you really just need to decide how much dicking around with complex setups you want to do. You can mostly do everything on a benchtop or mini machine but will have to work around the small...

Take a look at the dead air ghost or rugged obsidian. I'd choose between those if I was in the market for one right now.

Lathe purchase
Is this a good machine? http://littlerock.craigslist.org/tls/5687508446.html
How's the price on it?
Main purpose would be to make baffles and thread barrels.

Mars, you located in AR? I know the shop who had this done. Yes. Again, I wasn't trying to be a jerk to the guy. I hear that he seems to be a pretty upstanding guy. I just wanted others to understand that this was not a good idea and to not follow suit. Oh I understand completely. I haven't asked h...

Thanks,
What caliber you want it for? Aren't they in different classes: Alpha for 50bmg and vers50 for lower pressure rounds like 50beo, 458 socom, etc.

Re: Stuck Between 3 Silencers
I've got a 300TM and it's great. Good suppression, lightweight, durable, minimal shift, and it tightened my groups a little as well.
I'd also take a look at the Ultra series as ncorry suggested.

Re: Specwar 556 on SBR
I've got one on an 11.5" barrel and really like it. Weight is good, it balances well, and suppression is adequate. I've shot probably 2k rounds through it so far, including many mag dumps, and have noticed no wear on the blast baffle. I like it so much, I'm actually thinking about adding the 'k...

Re: AAC quality still good?
This past weekend a gentleman showed up at an event I was RO'ing with a brand new AAC .45 can (forget the model) on his .45 pistol. Unfortunately, it was discovered the hard way that it had been inadvertently assembled with a 9mm end cap at the factory. He got about 10 rounds through it before the ...

Nice Boat  My choices given what you have said are Silencerco Octane or AAC TiRant Is the Tirant rated for full house 10mm? No, it is not. Do not shoot 10 mm through one. The Osprey 45 is rated for 10mm, but the Osprey 40 is not. Thanks. I believe the octane 45 is also rated for 10mm. Anyone...

Did you clip your cones?

458 socom build
What would reasonable thickness be for 60 degree cones in a 458 socom build? Would 304 or 316 stainless be better for cone material? Will primarily be using supersonic reloads. Would clipped cones help with this caliber as it does with 223?
Thanks for your help.

A bit of a thread jack here, and I'll remove if the OP wants, but I have considered purchasing a lathe for some F1 builds. I have zero machining experience, but enjoy tinkering with stuff. How do you all feel about starting with a mini lathe? Specifically, I found this: http://www.harborfreight.com/...
