Re: Changing caliber of an approxed Form 1 tax stamp
My stamp is for 9mm. I don't remember the length offhand and I'm travelling so I can't look at it, but I believe 9". I seem to remember using a fairly long length on the Form 1 so I could choose a shorter length later. I've decided I'd rather do a 300BLK. I know the bore diameters are close eno...

Changing caliber of an approxed Form 1 tax stamp
I have a stamp for a Form 1 I did a year or so ago but haven't made yet. I have changed my mind on what caliber I want. Is there a process with the BATF for changing the caliber?

If you bolt a noodle to the floor it's still a noodle.sizulku wrote: How about if I bolt on this machine onto concrete or bench table? will it help ?
For the cost of that machine you can get a very serviceable lathe.

Re: Legality 9mm Form 1 suppressor pinned to 300BLK
If you are wanting to make the bore more like .360-375" which is more typical for 300blk but already have a stamp for 9mm, which typically have bores of .410-.420", instead of rolling with the .360-.375" (because it it over 9mm) I would ask email Ted Clutter and ask to have the appro...

Legality 9mm Form 1 suppressor pinned to 300BLK
I have an approved Form 1 stamp for a 9mm. I've changed my mind and would prefer to make a suppressor for a 300BLK and pin/weld it to a short barrel. I know people swap threaded suppressors between 9mm and 300BLK, but I'm wondering if there is a legal problem if I have a suppressor engraved for 9mm ...

Re: Grizzly Lathe?
How important is variable speed? To do a nice job you need to be able to change the speed to suit the diameter. The size lathe being discussed in this thread are generally used on small diameter stuff ( < 2") that likes to be turned at high RPM to get the right surface feet per minute, doubly ...

Re: Changing chucks & indicating a 4 jaw issue
Maybe I did deform the tube a little. I'm very careful with tubing in the jaws & was sure to take each one to about "finger tight" as I was adjusting - if I was putting more than 3 lbs of torque on the chuck wrench I'd be surprised. I didn't get to the point where I was snugging the j...

Re: My first milling machine!
Alright, so I've got some indicators already from my lathe stuffs. A specialty tramming indicator isn't absolutely necessary, is it? No, it's not necessary. It's a tool for turning a 10 minute job into a 5 minute job. Save buying one for after you've got more truly necessary stuff. I tilted the hea...

In preparation of getting my F1 back, what would type III anodizing cost for a .22 can, say, similar in size to your Dagger...baffles and tube in 7075...and how fast is the turnaround usually? Small parts like that usually fall under a lot charge which is $125-$150 for the shops I use at work (non ...

very nice work...any range reports? I've had to work in Mexico the past couple weeks but got lucky and got it back from engraving a couple days before I left so my son and I took it to the range. Re: Need 3d modeling program suggestion
You might look into Alibre. They have (or used to have) sales now and they where they'd offer it in the $100 range. I tried using it for home shop stuff and it seems like it'd be a good program but I use Solidworks for hours every day at work and it was too much of a pain for me to switch back and f...

Re: Any pointers for using Eform for Form 1
I finally managed to complete 2 forms last night, although it was still painfully slow and filled with errors and restarts. One thing worth knowing is on the screen where you input the model/caliber/serial number. Go ahead and select "silencer" and fill in caliber and S/N. Don't click the ...

Any pointers for using Eform for Form 1
I'm trying to use Eforms and it's got to be the most frustrating thing I've ever tried. Error messages at every step and the save button apparently doesn't work. And if I get all the way through and click "pay" I get a meaningless error message and can't go any further. I've read all the b...

Figuring out how to do a cutaway view was way, way, way too much work. That's 2 hours of my life ill never get back. [/img] I know it sounds trite, but the more you do it the faster it gets. I've probably used 1/2 dozen CAD programs over the past 20+ years and the learning curve is always pretty st...

Re: Punkinhead's build plan
If you can scrape the $$ together, look for an "adjust-tru" style of 3 or 6 jaw chuck to fit your spindle. You'll never use your 4-jaw again. You got me curious so I went out and looked. $1000 is the price of entry - guess I'll have to save my pennies. Ready for engraving and Cerakote. Th...

Baffle stack clearance
For a .22LR k-baffle can, when you screw it together how much clearance to you want in the stack up? Right now I've got 0 clearance, so when I tighten the end caps the baffle stack is held tight. It's not under compression, but there's no clearance. I can trim the blast chamber (built into one end c...

Re: Engraving - do you try to "clock" the lettering?
Engraving is just work hardening. Actually, it'll be material removal. There shouldn't be any change in harmonics, heat disipation, etc. Keep it away from blastchamber. The orientation shouldn't matter. If it did, Companies would engrave twice, 180* apart. I'm just thinking of aesthetics, not perfo...

Engraving - do you try to "clock" the lettering?
I'm getting close to finishing up my suppressor and need to take it to a shop to be engraved. Do you try to have the engraving in any particular orientation when the suppressor is attached to the host gun? I realize it'll end up in different orientations with different guns but I'll mostly be using ...

Re: Punkinhead's build plan
I threaded the tube and made the end caps yesterday. I plan to trim the rear end cap to get the right clearance so the baffles aren't under compression. Any idea what I should shoot for as a clearance? I don't want the baffles under compression but I don't want them to rattle either. I'm also wonder...

Re: Tolerance.
I'm curious why 316 instead of 304. 316 is more corrosion resistant but less machinable. As far as OD, what I did was turn a plug out of aluminum to see what would slide through the tubing since I didn't want to bore the tubing. Any bend, oval, or ID tolerance in the tube will effect what baffle OD ...

Another question: location & size of dater hole on the first baffle. I'm thinking aroud .100" diameter. What about location relative to the mouse hole? I've seen pictures of the dater lined up with the mouse hole and at 90 degrees to it.

Re: Orderd a new lathe!! Updated with pics!
That's normal for some lathes (mine included). It means the dial readings are for the diameter, not the radius. In other words, if you turn the dial in 0.010" you'll take 0.010" off the diameter. I find it handy.ken226 wrote: So the dial is marked in .002 increments, but actually infeeds .001!

Could you click a pic turning the K about 60* counter-clockwise and with the mousehole at the top?
