Re: 9mm rifle subsonic load data?

Good point ECCO, I forgot to post the velocity. My notes show:

-- Rainier 147, 3.7 CFE Pistol, 1.135 OAL, was 960 FPS.

-- Same everything except 3.8 CFE Pistol and 1.100 OAL was 1,012 FPS.

Re: 9mm rifle subsonic load data?

Shooting my Ti-Rant 9 on a PC9 takedown I got 121.8 dBA with a 147 TC and 3.7 CFE Pistol. Not to say that's the perfect load; actually it's one of the first I've tried. This load/rifle metered 149.1 unsuppressed. At my right ear it metered 139.1. Yep, sounds a lot like a blowback 9mm. So while it su...

Re: Switch Back .22 Silencerco

Stan, Impressive engineering! Cross publishing is how information is propagated. Here is a thread on NFAtalk with some of my Pressure Trace II experiments. The data start at post 32 (had to order the equipment, etc.). The first graph I posted was an FRP image. I'm still learning how to make best us...

Re: Switch Back .22 Silencerco

What have you found? Is it OK to link to other sites from here? I ask because I've posted some info elsewhere and, i hope this doesn't come off wrong, I don't want to have to maintain the same data in multiple locations  Basically I have a Pressure Trace II that I have used to test the unc...

Re: Switch Back .22 Silencerco

I can see where playing with the stack on a rifle length barrel could change things. I've used a strain gauge to record the uncorking pressures on 4" .22 pistols and 16"-19" .22 rifles, and with a rifle there just isn't much pressure to work with. Good on 'em for playing around and mo...

Re: action noise and suppressor hosts

I'll change my vote from bolt or falling block to a more generic locked breech and manual action of some type. Long barrels vs. short. And wipes. Wipes and ablatives are good  Enough wipes change the sound from a muffled bang or phew to "click". People who are very experienced wit...

Re: action noise and suppressor hosts

Agreed on strikers being quiet and 10/22s being really noisy. I've metered my Welrod on an empty case at 89.7 (87.3-90.5), and my 10/22 bolt drop feeding a CCI Std Vel at 116.8 (114.0-120.3). Compare the bolt drop to a 19" pump action .22 firing CCI Std Vel with a Regulator at 118.0 (116.0-119....

Re: Can't belive I just bought a Welrod !

I was interested in the bolt action design of the Welrod, and found a very thorough document here: https://edoc.site/the-welrod-suppressor-pdf-free.html That's a download of Anders Thygesen's site http://timelapse.dk. I'd go straight to the site and skip the ads :-) Anders has done a great job of c...

Blown away by the talent of a youngster in the South who demonstrated turning a part by hand. Compelled to share his talent with a technique for machining some non-linear parts. << https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDtrDv6uZTs >> That's really cool. Never tried that. Thanks for sharing.

Re: Back to Past: Shaper

Yeah, a beautiful piece. I remember reading as a kid about some gun writer touring the Winchester plant and seeing model 70s quietly being created by rows of shapers. Probably why they were too expensive to make that way... Point is, I love how quiet they are. Mostly a hum and a ZZZZZ noise.

Re: Single point threading titanium tube

I imagine everyone does this, but the way I cut threads up to a shoulder or into a blind hole is to set up a stationary dial indicator in a magnetic mount so the point will touch the carriage, and set it so it has 4-5 full rotations until the end of the cut, with the needle ending up straight up at ...

Re: My first milling machine!

I bought a Jet R8 chuck and collet set that has been nice, but I wasted money on the full set. It must be close to 20 years old and there are collets I still haven't used. That said it is nice being able to change end mill sizes w/o having to mess with the drawbar. http://www.jettools.com/us/en/p/cc...

Electrical noise? See if you lost a ground wire connection to the shielding on the control or power cables. The shield grounds are only connected on one end, right? I'm guessing a broken ground since it was working for a long time. Please post the resolution. Thanks Fwiw I have a couple of the Hitac...

I'm pretty sure any dealer can eFile. All he has to do is sign up on the ATF site. I'm not sure why anyone wouldn't use the electronic system for many reasons.

My options are to run a quality 1/2" x 28 tap through the sparrow to clean it up/loosen it a bit, or use an adjustable die on the barrels to remove a tiny bit more metal Best rule of thumb - Always cut on the cheapest part. Corollary - Don't cut on the part with a warranty. Especially if it ta...

Everyone may already know this, but in any case Stellite is the material often used to make automotive exhaust valve seats. I used to work in an automotive machine shop rebuilding heads and I can tell you Stellite is tough stuff.

When I was a kid I used to fly sailplanes, "gliders" to the uninitiated. I vividly recall a passage from the flight instruction manual. "Unpowered aircraft have the right of way over powered aircraft, but don't insist upon it. It does no good to know you were right in the grave."...

Re: Interesting Seizure

Took a second look. You know, I think I see the light now. When I thread a barrel I use an indicator rod and a couple of Starrett dial indicators. I'm a dumbass. All I had to do was screw a pipe fitting on over some electrical tape and ask AAC to send a can with a 3/4 pipe thread fitting instead of ...
