Re: Clipping baffles without a mil

Thanks guys, I bought a really nice shop made machinist vice on ebay, and a noga deburr tools. I will try the grinder idea first. Im in contract for a new house so my lathe and tools is all packed up. TBH that lathe setup essentially making a 2 axis milling attachment I think is the real winner. I'l...

Re: Clipping baffles without a mil

How about using a tool grinder or Dremel tool holder on your lathe, with the part chucked up? Its a relatively small tool investment. This was my second idea. But in a rotary tool attached to the cross slide. Baffle in the Chuck locked into back gears. Heck zip ties would even work for a temporary ...

Re: Clipping baffles without a mil

You could create some fixtures, to keep everything steady and aligned. This would most likely prove to be more work than it's worth, with the other available options. As fishman said, drill presses, at least your ordinary homeowner type, aren't designed for milling operations. If you have anything ...

Re: Clipping baffles without a mil

I was thinking that the drill press would be used working straight down, not side-loading the drill. I wasn't at all clear about that. For my own education, is there a reason this (using the drill press correctly) would be a bad idea? I suppose it would leave a radiused edge rather than square, any...

Clipping baffles without a mil

I have some 17-4 baffles is there a wiz bang method for clipping the baffle without access to a milling machine. Best Idea I have so far is a carbide bur in a rotary tool, which as you can see isn't exactly a great plan. I have a surface plate and a height gauge to do decent layout.

Re: "Low Tone"

Well, there's always that annoying and distracting "ping" "tuning fork" tinninitus sound that a bunch of AAC suppressors has. My TiRant 9mm has that sound except with Hush Ammo but I had some FTF with it so I dont use it much. But it was a demo can and I got it for like 4...

Re: Fondled a top tier can. questions and observations

I would think if having full dimension cones made a quieter can they would simply make a lower number of an uber super Alpha and Omega model and just pass the cost off on to the customer. I mean I just paid an extra 100 or so bucks for the Omega over buying the hybrid. To me 2-3 DB is worth 100 buck...

Re: Order my SilencerCo Omega today

If hpa passes with its current verbiage, you get a refund on recent tax stamps. I didn't know that. I am guardedly optimistic Though I dont know that republicans really want to fight that fight till they deal with the ACA and the Wall and North Korea etc. I write my senators and congressman like mo...

Order my SilencerCo Omega today

Wanted a can I would use on my Mega Arms Maten and on a my AR-15's. I was gonna go with the Harvester 762 but I do like the occasional Mag dump and The Omega is a bit quiter and has interchangeable end caps so it will be quite on my 5.56 rifle. Hopefully the wait times go down, but of course with my...

Diversified machine is top notch. You can also get sizes other than ones based on flashlight for example 1.650 OD (I forget the ID he has for say TI) and used the 80% cones: https://zmachineworx.com/collections/frontpage/products/ss-60-cone-1-497-coming-soon Form 1 cans are getting to be stupid easy...

Re: Heat Treating Blast Baffle

I'm not sure how that correlates here, but good info! I've been using double h and it's easily the best cutting material I've ever cut. Even better than aluminum. I would prefer h900, but for some reason few sell it in that condition. Sorry I failed to complete my thought. If you buy the material p...

Re: Heat Treating Blast Baffle

I recently took some test cuts on 17-4 in h900 condition and with Tin Carbide tooling on my 60 year old south bend it cut wonderfully. Slightly on the stringy side but thats due to my belt slipping before i could get the feed rate up to engage the chip breaker. I was lucky enough to get an Alloris t...

Re: Video of my form 1 SD Tactical Arms/freeze plug can

Thanks for the video. I particularly liked at the end the suppressed vs non, alternating shots. It made the comparison more effective. Thank you sir. To me ear on the video the suppressed shots seem almost louder. I think what is going on is the suppressed is so loud it is causing a lot of audio cl...

Video of my form 1 SD Tactical Arms/freeze plug can

Learned a lot doing this. Getting the baffle spacing correct was a real PITA. So is getting the gas system dialed in. Cant wait to get my lathe running and make a 5.56 and 22LR can next with machined baffles.

Re: WTF item of the week!

I'm going with either a network attached storage tower missing it's hard drives (probably SCSI) or a optical disk cloning center missing it's drives. You are sort of close. It isn't a printer and the drive it is attached to can be SCSI, Or Fiber or ESCON or FICON attached. It is used for data backu...

Re: Single point threading titanium tube

Kbillet: Grade 2 is still a decent material. I used it for the barrel mount in my 222-silencer because it was available and stronger than the 6000 alu I had. Even if it wasn't stronger than aluminium it still has useful properties like better erosion resistance and lower thermal expansion rate. Joe...

Re: Single point threading titanium tube

I have a couple questions based on some advice I have gotten from machinist. 1st .001 per cut is pretty light and I was under the impression that carbide tools dont like light cuts because the tool is rubbing and not cutting. 2nd Those of you using carbide what insert geometry are you using? 3rd. sa...
