Re: Form 1 SBR confusion about engraving
You don't have to have the lower engraved before you file--some folks do, on the off chance that the engraver messes up, or the receiver gets lost in transit, but it isn't required. You may also want to engrave the barrel/upper, rather than the lower, with the caliber.

Re: Trust changes now happening in January?
And even IF a final ruling comes out in January 2015, there's still several more months after that before the law actually goes into effect. This is not necessarily the case--regulations can be made effective immediately after printing in the Federal Register. There can be, and often is, a delay, b...

Re: New MGs for Trusts?
Pipe dream of a blogger. He forgets that the BATFE is judge, jury and executioner. No, a United States District Judge will be the judge, and there will be neither a jury nor an executioner. The problem (that I don't see a solution to, unless it can be successfully argued that the Hughes Amendment w...

Re: WI Rep. Sensenbrenner proposes eliminating the BATFE
I can't help but have reservations against the portion of the proposal that spells out that the "F&E" portion of the agency's duties would be turned over to the Department of Justice (particularly the current Department of (in)Justice). ATF is already part of DOJ. Do you think this wo...

Re: questions about an old form1 22LR suppressor
Transferring into a trust is also going to be a taxable transfer, and depending on his condition, that transfer may not even complete before his death. It also won't really do anything to ease or speed the transfer to his grandson. If he wants the suppressor to go to his grandson on his death, the b...

USPS forwarding lasts one year for first class mail, though I've heard it suggested that mail from ATF doesn't get forwarded anyway. You could try contacting the NFA branch to advise them of your impending move.

My 300 BLK SBR has a 10.5" barrel with a pistol-length gas system. So far, it works fine suppressed and unsuppressed.

What barrel length did you specify on your Form 1? That's the configuration you should build, at least at first.

Re: SBR engraving
For the sake of others who may search, you need to engrave your name (if the Form 1 is filed as an individual) or the complete name of the corp/LLC/trust (specifically, abbreviations to the trust name like RLT for revocable living trust aren't allowed), and the city and state where the SBR is made (...

Re: Nolo Says Don't Create A Gun Trust With Their Products
With gun trusts, though, a lot of gun owners don't like the idea of giving ATF a list of all their guns . This always made me laugh. An NFA Trust should only contain your NFA items...which have to be approved by the ATF...which have a list of your approved items. So who are you hiding them from? Wh...

Re: Nolo Says Don't Create A Gun Trust With Their Products
I'm an attorney. I believe that folks who want a gun trust would be well-advised to consult in-person with an attorney who knows estate planning, knows the NFA, and can advise them as to how best to implement their goals. I believe the NFA dealers who are preparing trusts for their customers are doi...

Re: Oil filter adapters?
Your friend or more likely his SOT is full of it. Don't think the friend is; he's a pretty straight shooter. Possible, I guess, that he misunderstood what the SOT said, but that doesn't seem too likely in this case. I know nothing about the SOT in question other than that he seems to be giving out ...

Re: Oil filter adapters?
Pretty much what I figured, thanks. A friend says that his SOT says there's a recent ATF ruling indicating that the end-user can replace the filter himself, but neither he nor I have seen a copy of that, and it doesn't sound right to me.

Oil filter adapters?
Apologies if this has been discussed already--I didn't see any threads on this, but please point me to them if this is old news. I've seen discussion here about "solvent traps", and how they can easily (and illegally) be used to make a silencer by simply shooting through the oil filter. To...

Since a trust doesn't ordinarily state your address, you wouldn't make any changes to the trust as a result of a move. Therefore, there shouldn't be any reason to send in a new copy of the trust.

Re: ATF eForms is alive!
The real question is, if they do manage to push through their rule changes on trusts/corp. needing photos, fingerprints, and CLEO, how could they make that comparable with the electronic system? I don't see an easy way to do that... Another case of the left hand not knowing what the right hand is d...

You didn't want to "poke the tiger" by failing to do something that there's not the faintest hint of any legal requirement to do? Not engraving your name on a suppressor you bought is "poking the tiger" in the same way that not painting your name on your car is.

You're right, I didn't post the law itself--I posted a summary of the law, written by what I believed to be a reasonably authoritative source. I'm happy to consider alternate summaries, but my evaluation of their credibility will be greatly influenced by how much of the actual law they cite. You'll ...

Alot of people don't know that Fed Agents have Exemption from Entrapment Exclusion. They (hopefully) don't know it because it isn't true. Entrapment is a valid defense at both the federal and the state levels. However, at both levels, it's an extremely difficult defense to establish. The article do...

Completely unrelated issues. Corporations are people for some purposes, and not for others; this has been the case as long as corporations have existed. They are not individuals, and cannot be fingerprinted or photographed. ATF's proposal has nothing to do with any change in the legal status of corp...

Don't let a 3-phase motor bother you--you can get a good 3-phase inverter for a 1HP motor for around $100 (see http://www.factorymation.com/Products/FM50_230V/ for one example I've used). These will let you run the motor on single-phase power, can let you run it on 110V power rather than 220V if you...

Really most of my out of state transfers are free as part of the fact I'm probably paying to much anyway or the dealer is already making huge profit. I.E. Machine guns . Re: How do you improve silencers?
You do not need to send the design to ATF, only the basic specs (overall length and caliber). However, once you've built it, you're stuck with it--you aren't allowed to make new baffles or otherwise modify it without paying another $200 tax to make another silencer. The other option is to be license...
