As for thread milling...
It depends on how good the CNC mill is and what level of thread you need.
Make a few test holes the size you want in a bit of something with an end mill and mike the heck out of them to see what you'll get for roundness. Hobby-size CNCs tend to not do real well on this.

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
In the annals of strange and surprising suppressor designs none can top for the time being U.S. Patent 4,928,573, May 1990. It almost deifies description: a hollow walled Martini Shaker? :) << http://www.patentbuddy.com/Patent/4928573 >> Its abstract: "A silencer and flash suppressor for sabot...

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
Those might do something useful and would be worth trying.
If the larger projectile experience (note: not suppressor-related, only redirecting gas for brakes and similar) translates down, more curve and less flat would do more.

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
The Italian comp bullet was done by some IPSC gamers trying to be clever and tap off & redirect the gas jet right before the bullet left the barrel to reduce recoil. Pretty sure they didn't make many since it wasn't very practical or effective. Never tried one in a suppressor. Testing on-the-che...

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
Sorry to not-publish a full CV and what I and my company (that would be the "we") are working on, but we have IP agreements in place like many other "industry insiders". Hoped I could try and contribute a little "radical" idea direction without getting the PTB's cranky...

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
Perhaps you can explain the Theory and a diagram of how this works? It seems counter-intuitive. People have loaded subsonics backward, but for stability and knockdown power. No increase in dB reduction in suppressors has ever been mentioned. Can you list some of your 22 Patents? What 7/02 R&D y...

Re: Does anyone have ideas for radical designs?
Flat base causes perpendicular redirection and acts like brick wall. Perhaps a better response would be: "Movable projectile travelling along borepath doesn't react the same as projections situated along the periphery adjacent to boreline." :? I shouldn't have snapped at "shockbottle...

And that is why plain flat baffles work so well that there's no need to try anything else.whiterussian1974 wrote:That would actually give opposite result.shockbottle wrote:Load your bullets backwards so the ogive helps direct the gas stream into the baffles?

Re: Tungsten as a Baffle Material in rifle suppressors
I think most of the responses about tungsten are confusing the metal itself with tungsten carbide. Tungsten carbide is extremely hard, brittle, and nigh impossible to machine. Pure elemental tungsten is around 30 HRC, you can cut it with a file. If it's pure enough, it should be ductile, not brittl...

Re: Tungsten as a Baffle Material in rifle suppressors
I suppose if you could get pure elemental Tungsten, it isn't all that brittle. Sourcing it is going to be fun as most of what's available as "pure" is "99.5% commercially pure" sintered material. Most of the time tungsten-containing (or not) steel alloys are so much better overal...

Re: Tungsten as a Baffle Material in rifle suppressors
Tungsten is also known for being brittle. Probably not the best plan.
