Re: Any 2 piece K baffle designs?

So it's basically a contained stack of cone baffles with a 'washer' integrated as the outer portion of the face, simulating a simple sort of K baffle, is that right? Losing some of the advantage of a properly profiled K baffle - the contoured face which in part encourages gas swirling back into the ...

Re: Any 2 piece K baffle designs?

I can see how those K baffles might be alright, given the rather large scale, material and application. You'd not likely want to use anything more powerful, and even at that level of pressure the obvious stress riser of the inner right angle at the waist represents a significant concern. It's going ...

Re: Which "pill bottle" micro-can?

Not insanely small at 4.5" OAL, 3.5" from the muzzle (the rest is there to register on the barrel as a shoulder isn't possible on such a fixed-barrel pistol), but this suppressor houses 5 short K baffles and renders CCI standard velocity quiet enough that it becomes comfortable to shoot in a small r...

Re: Hello all

I've very much enjoyed your build discussions and machining as displayed on your Youtube channel. Very lovely work indeed, and quite inspiring. I'm not going to pursue semi-automatic takedown work for myself, as I prefer bolt action single shot in my lightweight .22lr rifles, but the detail you show...

Re: Secondary Blast Baffle discussion

In my most recently completed takedown .22lr rifle I used ten K baffles, ranging from about 0.55" long to 0.80", all 0.865" OD. The first K is 0.30" from the muzzle. After the first five baffles I put in a spacer tube 0.7" long, after having tried an eleventh K baffle in that position. I was curious...

Re: another suppressed lightweight takedown rifle

In case a brief video of the rifle being fired is of any interest... my apologies for the poor quality. It was something of a struggle finding a format which Photobucket would accept this time around and I processed the original through several different programs before a version would successfully ...

another suppressed lightweight takedown rifle

As some may remember, I have dabbled a bit in making takedown .22lr rifles. Well this is my fourth attempt, and while the machining is still somewhat on the 'raw' side owing to my modest capabilities and tooling the result is quite satisfying. Having only tested it indoors at 10 metres the accuracy ...

Re: Rugged Oculus vs Dead Air Mask (Metered)

I'm a bit surprised by that 122dB result. Todd Magee of Dead Air reported this: Sound testing on pistols is comfortably in the 114-116 dB range with minimal FRP. That is from this thread: http://www.silencertalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=133188 Later in the thread Hansohn Brothers reported 115.7dB b...

Re: 45 k baffle critique

I made one X baffle out of 7075 aluminum. Rather muffed the face detail milling, owing to a poorly set up jig and my impatience that day. In the end I decided it wasn't really worth pursuing more of them as it changed nothing when inserted in several different positions among K baffles on my .22lr p...

Re: Scope question for a 'Jackal' type takedown .22lr rifle

Thank you Jimmy, a couple of interesting scopes there. The Weaver 2.5-7x is along the right track but still too big at the ends. A couple of the very low priced options (in the $10 to $20 range apparently) are about right, but I doubt I could put with such poor optical quality in the name of appeara...

Re: Wood Baffle Parts Making Need To Be A SOT?

I did try a simple wood cone suppressor on a .22lr pistol. Air between front and rear caps was about 4.5" x 1.375". Much-drilled aluminum tubular spacers separating three cones carved from lignum vitae, a very dense and waxy hardwood. Each cone had a scoop milled into one edge. Angles of the cones v...

Re: Waste ports - big or small

I've only used a round-nosed end mill with 1/4" diameter. The distance of the plunge from the bore centre has determined the size of the vent. I've not felt any need to use a larger bit. But of course this is only for .22lr, nothing larger. Generally the bit used should probably match the bore diame...

Re: Waste ports - big or small

I've tried smaller ports on my short K baffles, but did not get much dirt building up in the outer areas of the baffles even after shooting a few magazines through the silencer. When I opened these waist ports to about double the venting area and tried again the resulting mess outside the skirts was...

Re: Some k baffle questions

Someone on here, CurtisTactical if memory serves but perhaps not him, actually says that a trapezoidal trough performs a but better then a U-shaped or heli-toroidal channel. I've found the rounded channel to perform extremely well, ebsides being easy to clean, so haven't yet tried the flat-bottomed v...

Re: Thoughts on my design pls

I'm a bit confused - is the prototype in ABS or is ABS the finished suppressor material? Or both? ABS has a rather low melting point. Easily burned with even a match or candle flame. Rimfire ammunition, even relatively low powered types, generate considerable heat in the blast chamber and beyond for...

Re: Getting started...

My goal with suppressing a .22lr pistol is to find the sound with CCI SV or Remington Subsonic as pleasant on naked ears as possible, while shooting indoors in a room with no carpeting nor upholstery. When I have managed that, as it is with my current K baffle set, I'm happy. And of course outdoors ...

Re: Integrally suppressed airgun that sets off Binary?

Indeed, with all due respect (and I do value your contributions greatly, Fireman), it seems likely that the AF numbers were taken using a cheap SPL meter or smartphone application. I have not tested a Condor, much less one in .25", but I did do some tuning for a friend's Talon SS in .22". Specifical...

Re: K baffle alignment

Bearing in mind that my only experience with suppression has been airguns (between a few FPE and about 37fpe) and .22lr (pistol and rifle), it's my understanding that with subsonic rounds the best efficiency can be derived from a K baffle using the fore/aft milling approach for that pair of vents. A...

Re: K baffle alignment

Why are you milling the waist vent from the face of the baffle? Seems to both weaken that edge unnecessarily, leading to premature erosion, as well as reduce efficiency of the port compared to the conventional milling from the cone side for this exit vent.

Re: Thoughts on K-Baffle Mouse Hole

You'll see arguments made for various sizes. One of the most frequent I've encountered in this forum has been that the waist vent (this is the hole to which you're referring as a 'mouse hole' yes?) in the K baffle ought to be kept quite small, as the higher pressure gas will be able to push through ...

Re: Extended Nose K-Baffle

Yes, I did try that, though not quite as extended as your drawing illustrates. I tried about 0.25" of extra 'nose' in a set of short K baffles for a .22lr suppressor. It may have been slightly louder than with the more normal nose, but my metering showed it to be quite close and my ears couldn't dec...

Re: 10/22 integrally suppressed barrel suitable for 60gr SSS?

Why thank you Historian. I blush. The bolt was turned from a 14mm diameter, 8.5cm long bolt, reducing the OD to the diameter of the thread root which dominates 1/2 of the length - 0.5". A trace of the thread still shows on the rear half of the finished bolt. This was drilled out leaving about a 1mm ...

Re: 10/22 integrally suppressed barrel suitable for 60gr SSS?

60gr SSS is subsonic even from an 18" barrel. Porting will not be needed. Sorry if my intended meaning was not clear; what I was indicating was that barrel ports could be used to help in suppression of noise through vented pressure earlier in the barrel, without costing velocity if kept to a certai...
