Re: 45 cal titanium build
Nothing to be ashamed of there! How much space are you putting between the valve spring retainers? Did you anodize the tube or did it come with that blue tint?

Re: My first Form 1 with Nielson Device
I would've guessed that putting the cones closer to the muzzle would be better than putting the Ks first. You should try both and let us know which works better. I'd definitely clip the cones. I would've machined aluminum or titanium cones instead of using stainless FPs Fishman: Thanks for the advi...

Re: My first Form 1 with Nielson Device
First range test report: 1. Provides hearing safe shooting with .45acp 2. It saves a lot of chasing around for the empty brass. They all fall in front of my feet instead of over 1/4 acre to my right and behind. 3. Cycles with 70-80% reliability using "powder puff" 200g RN in front of 5.0g ...

Re: 300WM build questions
For what it's worth, here is my "wet kit" for my Smithy. I have a total of about $30 in it, including the coolant. Saved that much in carbide & High Speed tools on the first job. My work area doesn't always look like this, sometimes it's messy :D http://i1378.photobucket.com/albums/ah9...

Re: 300WM build questions
While the guys are correct, you can turn Ti dry, don't think making a wet kit for your Grizzly will be hard to do or expensive. I got a drip pan from a auto parts store that was large enough for my 3 in 1 Smithy to sit on, drilled the 4 mounting holes through it & my bench, sealed the holes with...

My first Form 1 with Nielson Device
I have cobbled together a few form 1 silencers, but this is my first attempt to fabricate anything with a Nielson Device. For that matter, I have never seen a Nielson Device in person before. Here are the vitals: Combination K/Cone baffle Titanium Silencer (I went this route because I had good resul...

Re: Do suppressors do the job?
300 BLK with subsonics and a good silencer will be very quiet. A bolt action rifle will be quieter than an AR, generally speaking. However, if your coyotes are out beyond 200 yds. you will be asking a lot of subsonic loads. The trajectory will be more like incoming artillery than a rifle shot.

As doubloon mentioned, they need to be uploaded from your computer to a file hosting site. Silencertalk does not host the file, it just uses the link you provide as reference. Do you have Google Drive, Photobucket or some other form of file hosting? You go there, sign in and Upload your: pics, movi...

help with photo attachments
OK, I'll finally admit it. I can't figure out how to attach photos to a post on this forum. I have the photos in a folder on my laptop but I cannot copy & paste them, nor can I find an "attach" button like with other sites that I frequent. Can somebody give a semi-tech literate old guy...

Re: Nielson Device for Form 1 compliance
If the LID is also an endcap, then yes it is part of the silencer, and then no you would not be able to replace it with a standard threaded endcap. If the LID threads into an endcap, then no it is not part of the silencer, and then yes you could also use a thread adapter for a direct thread option....

Nielson Device for Form 1 compliance
I realize that this has probably been asked & answered a dozen times or more on this forum, but I have searched and not found it specifically addressed: If I build a Form 1 silencer for my .45 acp 1911 and include a Nielson Device that is threaded into the tube of the silencer, could I legally h...

Wow! You guys are starting to scare me with this OCD type detail on concentricity, alignment & parallelism. I have made several Form 1s on my trusty little Smithy 3 in 1 and only taken the basic & prudent steps for centering & aligning as I carve away. I mount direct threaded and shoulde...

from batf 5320-8 chap-6 All NFA firearms must be identified by a serial number and other specified markings95. If an existing firearm is being used in the making of the NFA weapon, and that firearm is serialized, the existing serial number should be used (unless it duplicates a serial number alread...

Re: To the chase
It does cut across at an angle, from the face of the baffle to the Outside of the waist of the K.
I think you have answered my question with "same diameter as bore". This means I need to enlarge my mouse holes.
Thank you!

I will try to figure out how to attach a photo, but in the meantime: 1: I only use 1 mouse hole in each K baffle 2: The hole goes from the edge of the protrusion around the bore on the face of the baffle to the base of the cone Can anybody give me an idea what diameter they drill or mill their mouse...

Let me cut to the chase for you more wise & knowledgeable in all things Silent: For a "standard" 6 each, K baffle, 8" silencer for a 6.8SPC constructed of Ti, what diameter would you make the mouse holes? I have been using 1/8" with milled countersinks on each side, but wonde...

.22 caliber, .223 caliber, 5.56 mm: all would suffice. When I first delved into this sordid pastime I worried a lot about such details too. By the time you provide adequate clearance to prevent baffle strikes who knows what the actual dimension of the bore will be. Unless you are committing some nef...
