Re: Q Cherry Bomb external threads

Best bet would be to measure the threads over wires to get the pitch diameter. Searching shows it's thought to be a 0.900-24 UNS thread.

Re: Guidance needed on threading a tube

Update: I went back & looked through my notes on things. As it turns out, this tubing I had originally purchases a length of for use as the tube on a monocore build; it didn't need to be as straight since I wasn't relying on it to control runout in any way. I've ordered some heavier walled Ti tu...

Guidance needed on threading a tube

I'm having a brain fart and it hasn't resolved itself in a few hours... I'm setting up to bore & thread a section of 1.5" Ti tubing I cut off a longer section I've used in the past. Fo some reason I can't get this 7" section to dial in. I've got it down to +/- 0.0005" at the chuck...

Re: A new way to clean baffles??!!

A little off topic, but what container are you using for your tumbler and where did you find it?

I'm using a piece of large diameter PVC but yours looks much nicer!

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

I've practiced the deep drilling a few times, so far no real problems! The worst off over 6" was 0.008" so I plan to run the bore at .265" or so. I figured out how to tilt my milling attachment, but I'd basically have to reposition the core in the vise for each slot; not enthused abou...

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

Ok, I've made some revisions to the first core idea. Additional milling to increase baffle volume giving an interior empty volume of 32.81cc's. Mk4 http://s20.postimg.org/vjf2jntd9/Mk4.jpg I've also drawn up a slant baffle design based on some feedback. This one would be more difficult for me to pro...

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

Thanks for that link CMV, very informative! I've been thinking this evening and doing some math... The original core has a free space volume of 31.3cc where my rendition of Cpt's core has a free volume of 28.9cc. I'm thinking I can tweak the first core to mill some additional material away and gain ...

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

I have both in rimfire - traditional K's & a modification of CPT Link's design. The K's are superior although my modifications to what's pictured there are substantial to suit my application. If you can cut the inside of a K, you can cut the outside. It's the exact same setup, you just change y...

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

This is my rendition of Capt's design: 11/16" primary baffles, 1/4" cross cuts to boreline, and a stacked 3/8" front baffle to add volume. This gives me about 0.045" between baffles and 0.06" at the top/bottom of the primary baffles. http://s20.postimg.org/k38nlmf71/Retrofit...

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

Enfield, how would you say Capt. Link's design compares to a K can? I realize this is subjective... T-Rex, I may have some .049 tubing laying around that I could utilize. As for the milling attachment's rigidity, I'm not actually certain I can hold the core in such a way to cut diagonally; at least ...

Re: Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

To be honest, I have a can with K's and wanted to try something different. Plus, for what ever reason, I have an insanely hard time making K's! The inside of the cone is OK, the rear face is OK, but cutting the outside cone I am forever messing up. I can see what you guys mean about having a ...

Had a spare $200 and I get bored in the winter... Critique my 22lr monocore please!

Well, at the rate Form 1's are slowing down, I should be approved sometime this fall/winter. I'm looking for a monocore build primarily due to ease of cleaning, though I would like suppression to as good as possible of course. Tools available: - Drill Press - 10" lathe (learning, can cut thread...

Re: Quick and easy Form 1

Interesting... To be honest, I found/find threading quite easy. Taught myself by watching youtube videos and I only messed up 2 practice threads rather horrifically. After that I figured out I could really take my time and make light cuts and things were fine. Given how easy threading can be, if som...

Re: muzzle pressure /hoop strength worksheet ?

As a reminder to people: This worksheet may not be 100% reliable and some of the formulas appear to have been tampered with. When I find time, I'll check my notes and try to bring it back to where it was when I first uploaded it a few months ago. One item of concern, which I'm going to attempt to fi...

Re: muzzle pressure /hoop strength worksheet ?

Re. the gas volume thing - it looks like your calculation for blast chamber pressure is solely dependent on muzzle pressure, with no accounting for the volume of gas causing that pressure. Your muzzle pressure calculation is based on volume of the chamber and bore; the blast chamber pressure should...

Bender Try this http://www35.zippyshare.com/v/18kTjNxu/file.html I upped the copy i had saved immediately on seeing it . This one worked for me the other day, no antivirus issues. It looks like the hoop stress calculation is incorrect though; it doesn't account for the tube wall thickness . This ca...

Re: Form 1 Baffle Criticism?

I like it. Does it have a first round pop? It depends... If you're in an open field and shooting, I don't notice any FRP. However, when I was shooting at a different location on a much colder & drier day, the 1st shot WAS a tiny bit louder than the 2nd. I wouldn't say it's significant, but it w...

Re: Form 1 Baffle Criticism?

Enfield, I missed this performance eval during my 1st read through also. BlwnGazkit, your 1st idea reminded me of the Gemtech G-series. Claws and Talon capturing, deflecting, and adding turbulent flow to the stream. Your final product is probably even better though. Added retention and deflection. ...

Re: Form 1 Baffle Criticism?

I suppose I could reverse your suggestion and make the changes to the front end of the tube/core... Yes, exactly. What is the thickness of the flat at the end of the core? Doesn't look to be .1", or so. Should be plenty to get a castle nut profile. Could you sacrifice a 1/16" from the muz...

Re: Form 1 Baffle Criticism?

It was nice to see the concept go from paper to material. Pics are definitely up I should have made a way to lock the tube from rotating on the core and skipped the pin wrench feature. As it is, I'll be adding a key or alignment pin to the core and broaching a keyway into the tube to accomplish thi...
