Re: Made a video of a 3D printed suppressor.

I don't believe it's, necessarily, about plastic suppressors. Metal sintered designs have been out for a little while, now. They're not cheap or quick to produce. With plastic, you could modify a design, print, and test, well before a metal version was finished. While the version shown could've bee...

Re: Made a video of a 3D printed suppressor.

Excellent question. The main point in the patent is that it is additively manufactured and I suppose the USPTO wasn't educated enough on the technology at the time to realize that this probably wasn't worthy of a patent. The patent owners don't actually manufacture anything as far as I can tell and ...

Re: Made a video of a 3D printed suppressor.

Just thought I would add some 3d printed suppressor videos, i haven't been on the site for a some time now. By the way there's a company that has the patent on monolithic printed suppressors. You'll need to find a way around it or they might send you a nastygram. https://youtu.be/otVZAxqoOtM https:/...

Anybody have a Larson 2530 mic and adapter for a 800B

Just throwing this out there, does anyone have a Larson 2530 microphone and/or 1/4 to 1/2" adapter to be used on a Larson 800B?
I'm in need of one or two for some upcoming tests.

Re: 3D Printed SilencerCo Octane Endcap tools, DEMO VID

No offense but have you actually used these? We use similar but higher quality rapid prototype machines at work, and it's hard to imagine one of these tools surviving more than a couple uses, unless the caps are never tightened very much. The material is pretty weak. print a new one when it breaks....

Nice, i've been planning one for a 9mm M&P as well, have you had any issues with feeding or over cycling? did you modify your powder load for it?

Re: Form 1 30cal TI tube thickness?

There are likely other posts that answer the question of wall thickness but.... Wall thickness depends on pressure inside of the suppressor which varies dramatically from one cartridge to another and varies with barrel length and other factors. 300 blackout subsonic will have lower pressures than sa...

Re: Blast Baffle Material

416 would likely be good enough for most people, but it isn't as resistant to the nasty gases coming out of the muzzle. it is good enough for Bartlein or Hart to make barrels out of (although shorter life expectancy than the suppressor)

Re: Blast Baffle Material

You might be confusing "best material" with "good enough material". We as DIY'ers can't afford the "Best material", our builds would cost 10's of 1000's of dollars and would last several lifetimes. I personally like to use Inconel HX or Hastelloy X (equivalent) for bla...

Re: 3AL 2.5V tube wall for a .30cal build

here's my almost finished Inconel baffles and rear cap for my first Form 1.... I didn't start with the easy stuff like aluminum and steel, i started with inconel and titanium. Titanium was fairly easy, inconel got me frustrated but I got it done with the KCU10 inserts and it came out looking real ni...

Re: Talk me into it...(FNG introduction)

Don't be scared of machining titanium, especially grade 5 and 9. just learn how to do it. I learned a ton of machining practices when making my K-baffles. Washers are simple, k baffles are not quite as simple. Internal threading is not magical either, might as well learn. I don't plan to buy another...

Re: 3AL 2.5V tube wall for a .30cal build

I've had good results machining titanium with Kennametal's KCU10 coating, it seems to last longer than other coatings that I have tried, but I typically don't take deep cuts on my little lathe. If you are intimidated by titanium, try machining something like Inconel, you will no longer be intimidate...

On the left side navigation tree, click steel, then precipitation hardened, then 17-4.
Scroll thru the pages to find the H-condition you want. This is materials allowables that is now MMPDS.
Temperature plots in there too.

Planning to design a 5.56 can soon.

So I'm ready to start designing the next Form 1, after just firing the first shot thru my first Form 1. The first one was for a rimfire so the pressures weren't a real concern, but for 5.56 there will be potential issues. I tried searching terms with "5.56" and the search ignored the "...

Wasn't implying a negative connotation, sorry if it came across that way. I was mainly commenting on the fact that not many places do that (7 is not many to me). It is expensive for various reasons.

Re: Titanium tube question

Grade 5 is the king of titanium. BUT, it is only available in solid form. It cannot be drawn over a mandrel to make tubes because it will crack. If you want a Gr 5 tube you have to bore it out from solid. Otherwise, Grade 9 tubing does well. There is Grade5 tubing out there, but its EXPENSIVE. Look...

Re: First Form 1 build, asking for constructive criticism.

The porting and construction of the baffles is incorrect for best performance and strength . The ports today are sometimes referred to as scoops as they are formed with a plunge cut of a ball end mill one port for each side. The baffle picture thread is most useful as is the completed suppressor pa...

First Form 1 build, asking for constructive criticism.

I'm in the process of building my first suppressor. My first one will be for rimfire as I use my 10/22 and Savage rascal with my kids. So here's a pic of what I have designed currently. http://i1380.photobucket.com/albums/ah199/guppyfc1/GunForumPics/supp01_zps527e1057.jpg Material is Titanium everyw...
