Re: Baffles rattle in the tube?
I made my final skirt long and trimmed it until I had about 1/4 turn crush on the stack when tightening the endcap.

Re: F1 30cal can on a 22LR
I had to try it one time after I finished my 22 build. On the same rifle with the same ammo my 30 cal YHM Phantom (which is admittedly a beast compared to some of the options out there now) is about as quiet as my F1 built 22lr suppressor...at roughly 4x the weight and 1.5x the diameter and length. ...

Re: Creative way to drill pin wrench holes in an endcap???
...found brass and oilite bushings that fit my AXA boring tool holder with 1/2" ID, so a thrust washer and threaded shaft for the chuck are all I need to build. That'll work! Thanks!

Re: Creative way to drill pin wrench holes in an endcap???
a_C, you have the right idea, and I considered what you are describing, but could not figure a way to keep the hole spacing even. Yes they would match, but the spacing would be off and look like crap.
40F, done, but have not found one I can make *without a mill*.

Creative way to drill pin wrench holes in an endcap???
The goal is precisely spaced pin wrench holes in an endcap and a matching custom pin wrench. The endcap is already finished. 2024 Al material. Does such a thing as a AXA toolholder 'blank' exist that is dovetailed and drilled for the height adjustment bolt but otherwise solid? I do not have a mill b...

Re: Turning 17-4 (A)
My Atlas 10F is from the mid 1940's and runs carbide inserts just fine...once I got the play out of the toolholder. Your 9A will do it too. My big issue to overcome was a wobbly lantern style toolholder. That lead to chipping inserts right quick! Once I got a good solid QCTP I have no problem with c...

Re: Heat Treating Finished Inconel Baffles
Run it. Lots of high end knife steels have long heat soak cycles and 1800F is common. A knife HT oven should do fine.

Re: 30cal Integral Bolt Rifle Build UPDATE 4/25/2019
cdhknives, my experience w/ case capacity and velocity is quite the opposite. Even with fill percentages as high as 75%, I would see inconsistencies w/o adding some other variable. I'd need to point the muzzle into the air and slowly rest to the bench, before firing. Drilling the flash hole and usi...

Re: 30cal Integral Bolt Rifle Build UPDATE 4/25/2019
I tried WC820, which is a 30 carbine surplus powder roughly equal to AA#9. It was just okay. If you want a spreadsheet with the 1050 fps QL run let me know and I'll send it. I can't seem to find the max pressure sheet. The exact qty of Blue Dot is largely irrelevant if you load for subsonic velociti...

Re: 30cal Integral Bolt Rifle Build UPDATE 4/25/2019
Being a bolt gun and a suppressed one to boot wouldn't you want the fastest and least amount of powder to maximize or better yet minimize the amount of gasses needed to be cooled? Fastest powder (insures good chamber pressures) that gets the heaviest bullet to about 1050 fps (and stays under max pr...

Re: 30cal Integral Bolt Rifle Build UPDATE 4/13/2019
I've used a lot of different projectiles, for subsonic 30cal. I really like the heavy, HPBT SMK's, but they can get pricey and I'm just plinking. For 300blk, I've settled on the Leatherhead 220's. I've yet to try the Berry's 300 220gr Blackout Spire Point. Does anyone have experience with these? I ...

Re: New to the trade, did some reading and have some questions
I have idly wondered about inside pressures and thought the strain gauge type barrel pressure sensors would work fine for a suppressor. BUT, with all the good experimental data from the multitude of completed (and occasionally blown up) builds out there, my thought quickly passed. Thankfully that wa...

Re: Bowers ASP 45 and handloads
ok, I'll spell it out for ya since you don't seem to understand the physics and don't seem to want to Google the question. You probably cannot safely do what you are asking. Pistol design requires balancing recoil force to mass being moved. A suppressor hard mounted to a barrel increases that mass a...

Re: Thinking about a scorpion integral
Chamber rings sound like a good way to get a case head ripped off. I assume it would be very wide and shallow accordingly, and fairly hard on brass...though probably not as bad as a fluted chamber.

Re: Shotgun/NFA question
Same idea, much better woodwork. Nicely rounded and well finished, not blocky like that grip. That appears to be a factory build, this is obviously someone chopping off the stock but with moderate to high woodworking skill. I know the pistol grip shotguns currently on the market are not NFA because ...

Shotgun/NFA question
I had a guy show me a picture of a shotgun his girlfriend inherited. It looks like a typical single shot 410 break action with the standard shoulder stock cut off to a pistol grip. The barrel is left full length. It appears to meet the measurements required (over 18" bbl and over 26" overa...

Re: monocore vs welded cones. 300 blackout
My lathe is a late 1940's era Atlas 10x36. By the time I was good enough to notice wear issues I was good enough to work around them. Now the tooling to stiffen the toolholding and carriage was a much bigger issue. There is nothing like a badly worn lantern toolpost to make you beat your head agains...

Re: Muzzle loading integral suppressor
Back on the original topic, if the configuration is thus would it be legal: Build a 2 piece suppressor with a significant reflex section. Weld the reflex section to the muzzleloader barrel. Thread the rest of the tube, the baffle section, to the reflex section. This would make the internals accessib...

So the tips of the male spline rides on a smooth interior, not in a groove? I assume that means it is only a vent, not something intended to prevent rotation or maintain alignment?

Re: Machining a booster
I have 1/16" increment 3C collets through 9/16" for holding endmills and appropriate size of rod stock. There is a 60 pin indexing ring in the bull gear of these Atlas lathes and I could rig a very slow linear cut with the carriage feed and eventually make the male spline or rig something ...

Machining a booster
I am looking at some of the commercially available boosters, such as Liberty and SD, and failing to see how I can build one with only a lathe. If the splines on the internals are required I can't see how to build it without a mill, and I don't have a mill. Am I over-complicating this? Should I just ...

Re: Muzzle loading integral suppressor
My point exactly, ammunition is ammunition, firearms and devices are not ammunition, and captive piston ammo seems to fall between the definitions...much like muzzleloaders and smooth bore AOW's (pistol grip only shotguns). I do not want to be the test case, but it is a very intriguing line of thoug...

Re: Muzzle loading integral suppressor
I get that and was following the ML BP integral discussion with some interest. The discussion swerved to the captive piston ammo. No where have I seen that those would require a stamp. It is not a firearm part...seems to fall into a gap in the law from the little I have studied the language. What s...
