Re: Did Nikola Tesla Patent a Potential Silencer Design?
I didn't mean to rehash a recent topic. Sorry about that. The 3D printed model from the other thread looks like it was printed with ABS. One problem ABS has is with delamination. Hobby 3D printers have difficulty with it unless the temperature settings are just right. A different filament could be u...

Did Nikola Tesla Patent a Potential Silencer Design?
Hi All, I've not been here in a while. Seems I'm still a member. I've yet to Form-1 a silencer although my interest in that area is still strong. I came across a video on YouTube that mentioned this patent: http://www.google.com/patents/US1329559 I'm sure it would be detrimental to the design. But d...

Re: "Repair" incomplete Form 1 build?
It is much easier and most likely cheaper to just have a custom can made to your spec. Interesting thread. I can see there may be some real legal issues with the "repair". What interests me is the idea of a custom can. I'm guessing no pricing ranges can be easily given without specs. What...

Re: Getting the lead out
OK. Cool. So I just need to work out the stoichiometry of the reaction. Well, I guess need is a strong word. It would be nice to know just how much lead I am actually removing.
I am concerned about wax and carbon residue interfering with the reaction.

Re: How does a K baffle work
Thanks for the info, T-Rex. I reload too. And you're right. It's not to save money. Well, maybe for .44 Magnum  Building a Form-1 can is on my bucket list. It's tricky to say when I will be able to do it. I certainly would like the can to be remarkable though. If the tax stamp issue isn't a hu...

Re: Getting the lead out
I don't know why I didn't think of this. I have an air compressor. Although the air nozzle is only rated for 90PSI.After the dip I rinse with water then I blow out my sealed can with the compressor,120 psi gets it dry.
A mild reaction only... So much for making a dramatic YouTube video.

Re: Ban on M855
There was a time when what you say would be absolutely true, but such is no longer the case. On the day the Heller decision came out I, and many others, said that this was not the end, but the beginning. And such is true. I would absolutely love to be wrong on this issue. I did notice that PA has r...

Re: How does a K baffle work
This seems to be a resurrected thread. But an interesting one. I don't know the requirements for a Form-1 can. I understand you have to send a design of some kind to the ATF and get your stamp before you can even begin to work on it. I imagine you also need some real skill at machine work and expens...

Re: Ban on M855
This is just further proof that the gun banners are winning and will probably continue to do so. Has there been a time when a republican president with republican controlled house and senate ever bothered to have any anti-gun laws (NFA, GCA '68, etc) repealed? It's never going to happen. How about g...

Re: Getting the lead out
Just remember after using the dip if you can has ANY blowback then you are getting a nice face full of toxic chemicals. This is why its not advised to dip a sealed can, you WON'T get it all out. Thanks for the warning. I have an AR upper that has a custom gas block that will allow me to shut off th...

Re: Getting the lead out
Thanks, propeini & doubloon. So that's all this dip is. H2O2 + Acetic Acid. Awesome. I can get 5% of both. I guess the real trick is getting the solution into the interior areas that normally trap gasses as they are probably where the most buildup will be. So soak, salt (NaCL), and run 40 rounds...

Re: Replace the core?
I don't know the rules about shipping suppressors to the factory and getting them back. That actually applies to firearms in general. Why go through a dealer when a dealer isn't needed?
I don't want to get screwed by some administrative rule.

Re: SHOT SHOW 2015 5.56 Suppressed Bolt Carrier
Interesting idea. I have a custom gas block that can shut off the gas flow, turning the AR into a single shot requiring pulling the charging handle again for each shot.
The 300-221 upper has a three way switch for hi, lo, and off.
Sadly, I don't have a .30 cal suppressor.

Is it possible to simply order the stuff online? I've never ordered HAZMATs myself.

I wonder if small, hobby harbor freight mini mills and lathes can be used to make larger lathes and mills.

Re: Dealer wants to keep copy of trust
I've already mentioned owning a can in other posts. It was done with a Sheriff's signature, fingerprint cards, all that stuff. This time around, I've had a trust setup for the specific purpose of avoiding all that. I don't yet have any items in the trust and hope that won't be a problem as the can I...

Re: Getting the lead out
The can was advertised as being 100% 316 stainless steel. I have no way to test that. This dip stuff interests me. I know that water soluble lead compounds are very toxic. Would those blue gloves be sufficient for handling? Or should I use more heavy duty chemical gloves? I have an outside so I can ...

Re: Replace the core?
Thanks, Bendersquint. T-Rex, the can is an AWC Raider 5.56 NATO. I do not know what it looks like inside. I have not counted the rounds through it in either 5.56 or 22LR. If I can't clean it out, as has been indicated earlier in the thread, I'll just have to get a quote from AWC for the fix. I don't...

Re: Getting the lead out
Unfortunately there isn't anything that you can do. Time to send it back to AWC and have them gut it and while they are at it upgrade to latest and greatest baffle stack. What sort of procedures are involved with that? Do I have to worry about another tax stamp? Or can my SOT deal with AWC for that...

Re: Replace the core?
Wow. I mean wow.
Obviously not the answer I wanted. But the law is the law until it can be changed.
It probably costs way more than I can afford to get an 07/02 SOT.
I don't suppose there are any efforts to get silencers removed from the NFA and treated as simple accessories.

Getting the lead out
I have an AWC Raider 5.56 NATO can that has also had .22LR through it. The can is a welded unit so it can't be dissasembled. I have no idea how much lead may be in there from shooting 22LR through a 22 adaptor on the AR or a Marlin 880SQ threaded for ½-28TPI. I didn't know about the leading issue wh...

Replace the core?
My understanding is that the tube with the serial number is the silencer, much like the frame of a firearm with the serial number is the firearm. Bearing that in mind, is it lawful to replace a worn out core in a silencer which has been taxed and stamp on file?
