Re: New to the trade, did some reading and have some questions
Welcome 1)something something expanding gasses, open chamber something something temp drop...yeah someone with more knowledge than me can probably explain it better 2) No... there are to many variables depending on baffle design , suppressor volume , barrel length of the host , amount of gas (depend...

Re: Machining a booster
I mount my end mills with the above 2MT holder in lathe spindle. DO NOT hold end mill with 3 or 4 jaw chuck ... at best it will slip, at worse ...gasp. :) ... Fun 'beating the system'. Best. I agree however my lathe has a 6mt spindle So I use an er40 collet chuck I have also used a collet block hel...

Re: Machining a booster
it depends on how much muchness you want but
a 500w spindle can be had for less than $100
a 1.5kw will run around $300

Creative work holding
hold the work on the cross slide and end mill in the chuck and just like that its a horizontal mill
ETA
or you can adopt an inexpensive CNC spindle to use as live tooling
or even use it to broach splines

Your Rahn sounds like my Clausing We've been in the same shop since 1979 ...7 years before i was even thought of, we just really dont have the room The deal that introduced the new lathe also added a small mill (Grizzly G0463) another blast cabinet (24x48) and another air compressor (60g 5hp vertica...

If I were to build it like that I'd build it like the .30 can I built with the bar stock rear end, one piece rear cap and first 4" of tube then threaded for the 2" O.D. main body

Re: Trepanning sucks but this tool makes it easy!
What I was getting at , "amateurs" usually arn't conserned with speed as they are cost of tooling
with an annular cutter you get exactly one groove width and profile
a ground tool however much slower it may be is more flexable

Re: Trepanning sucks but this tool makes it easy!
annular cutters work very well however split round hss or carbide blanks can be ground in just a few seconds and are many times more versatile (ie more diameters from the same tool ) edit : to grind tool simply grind off half of the split portion so you are left with a 1/4 pie shaped piece (with jus...

Re: Which taper for suppressor mount to brake?
I think for my level of ability single thread is the way to go. Something maybe 16 to 20 threads per inch. On the drawing posted above it shows 375 as the length of the threaded section is that enough? If you can cut single point threads you can do acme and with a couple minuets of practice multi s...

Waterjet ?
If the round profile cant be delt with maybe water jet it as a square piece of barstock the turn to diameter...as a plus ot would be easy to make a can an offset bore ala the SiCo Osprey or DeLisle.

I like it. How's back-pressure with the short bbl? This gun has an adjustable gas-block and the gas isn't noticeable in part to the huge blast chamber 2nd pick in OP. What is the part in middle row all the way to the left? Tool? its... a... erm... blast chamber spacer?... baffle?..divider yeah that...

Re: Monocore from a barrel blank... or is it a bad idea
I thought of that but I was thinking of using some .020" wall Ti tubing I've got in the scrap pile for the tube But if I'm going to use a steel core it I can use a different tube material since the weight isn't an issue any more My original intention was a ridiculously light .22 can that would ...

Re: Monocore from a barrel blank... or is it a bad idea
I originally was going to make the core ~.75" longer than the tube the first ~.25" will be the same O.D. as the tube as well as bored and threaded internally for 1/2-28 the next 4.5" the o.d. of the core will be ~.008? smaller than the I.D. of the tube the last ~.5 will be threaded 5/...

No clam shells just a little extra clearance like .010" core to tube
