Re: Silencer material comparison, weight vs strength
....... and so far heat treated 4140/4340 with a thermoreactive diffusion coating is looking to be a pretty clear front runner for a lot of things. The material is readily available (even in seamless tube), inexpensive, and easy to machine. With the right heat treat it's about the right hardness, a...

And also, why are some people using 304 if 316 has way better strength and properties?

Re: Silencer material comparison, weight vs strength
if you temper 4130 you can get great strength (i am looking for the yield vs temp charts). 4130 should definitely be on the list, maybe for outer tube and then a SS 321 of iconel blast chamber. So I'm trying to find some info on 321 vs 316 ss and from my research, I did not find 321 to have any pro...

Status of HPA and campaigning
So let me throw it out there Im very political naive when it comes to all this legislature/congress and passing a bill stuff. Having said, what is the status of the HPA in layman's definition? What are we waiting for? whats the next step? What can I do to help it? I had an idea, to print out a bunch...

I've had a similar idea, but to use old circular saw blades that are carbide tipped to make a cutoff tool.

Re: Brainstorming mods for a quieter suppressor
No harm in that at all, just trying to separate whether or not an expedient solution was acceptable or desired. It's good to swing for the fence, especially when it's a challenge. A free floated take down barrel is an interesting proposition. I like to think in what passes for barrel harmonics of a...

Re: Brainstorming mods for a quieter suppressor
You have muddled your problem scope and you're over thinking the issues. You're inventing more problems than actually exist. If your real goal is quiet as possible rodent control without leaving cases laying around for your cows to eat (but for some reason you're not worried about them eating littl...

Re: Brainstorming mods for a quieter suppressor
Im really gonna look into using one of those mini check valves. In the name of science, its worth it.
If all fails, Ill just get the hole welded shut with an extra thick weld bead.
Maybe sometime in december ill find the time to do it.

Re: Brainstorming mods for a quieter suppressor
CO2 would only purge the O2 in my eyes just eliminating FRP like you mentioned.. There is a cooling effect as it expands You really only get any noticable cooling effect when it goes liquid-gas rapidly, and it needs to be in sufficient amounts of volume/ bursts. And, the rapid cooling/heating will ...

Re: Brainstorming mods for a quieter suppressor
I'm still waiting on my 5th and 6th build paperwork. One of which is going to be similar to the gemtech mist, on a lakefield (pre savage) bolt action. I understand why you'd want to quiet the action down on a 10/22. But if you're going to lock the bolt closed, why not just a single shot or a bolt a...

My first Can... 2nd video attempt
Ok, so I did a video on my first build a while back, and it turned into a 1.5 hour video in which I got into way too much nonsense detail, and got criticism for it.
