Did you clip your baffles? Unclipped vs clipped baffles makes a significant difference in suppression levels.

Re: Monocore .22LR to make integral ???

By permanently attaching the commercial suppressor to a barrel, are you thereby increasing the (registered) length of the suppressor to include the barrel's length? I believe the ATF regulations prohibit changing a suppressor's length, except for a minor reduction during a repair. Maybe I'm interpre...

New here, thanks in advance for your patience. I am having my first shot ( while running a suppressor) POI hitting 1.5" high to the right, This is consistent. All other shots are grouping where I aim less than .75"...…… Is it that the can has oxygen in it, and the burn off causes the firs...

Re: First shot POI shift

I would suggest shooting your first and succeeding shots over a chronograph to determine if your first shot is being "boosted" by the oxygen burn in the can. This could cause the elevation deviation from the other shots.

I got a *delay* letter this morning telling me that I need to make corrections on my F1. It's a F1 silencer. There are no mistakes on the form. I'm going to call them Monday, but damn? https://i.imgur.com/He8CNqs.jpg?1 1. It is not being made from a pre-existing receiver or manufacturer. So, I list...

Re: Equipment issue or operator?

The mark on the compound rest needs to be set to 90* using these markings, unfortunately the degree circle is not complete on most Chi-Com lathes. The cross slide and the compound now will travel in the same direction when set to Zero. Next swing the compound towards the chuck 29.5* degrees from your...

Re: why do clips work?

My simple theory: The projectile forms a temporary "plug" in the baffle orifice and causes the gas pressure to swirl around that baffle's cone. At that same instant, the gas pressure passes through the area created by the clip. That "jet" of gas pressure flows onto the slope of t...

My day job is in accounting, and I don't have any engineering degrees. I built a few Form 1 suppressors, including recently a 9mm can. I ran some 147gr ammo through it with my Sig P229, it functioned perfectly and sounded good. For further testing, I held the slide with my left hand, on top, and sho...

I would suggest omitting the reaming operation but instead, bore the hole after parting the cone to achieve a "better-centered" hole. FWIW

I was shooting my suppressed Rem 700 6mmBR (107gr @ 2640fps) at 500yd targets, and the target pullers in the pits told me that they could not hear the gunshots, only the sonic crack as the bullets passed over their heads.

Carbon deposits on suppressor baffles

When examining the carbon deposit build-up on clipped 60* cone baffles, what does the industry research show? Is the carbon and powder residue accumulating in areas where the clip is directing the gas pressure to? Or instead, is the carbon accumulating in low pressure areas where it is not being for...

If HPA passes, suppressors would continue to be "regulated" in the same manner as the Federal government regulates long guns. There are currently 42 states where suppressors may be lawfully possessed by non-prohibited persons. Why do you think that after passage of the HPA, the politicians...

Re: 80% silencers? Yep, it finally happened! (we have them but under the term "solvent trap" - at least they are honest!

According to the American Suppressor Assn., currently there are 8 states that do not allow civilian ownership of suppressors. The HPA would not change those states' laws, but only amend the NFA. The HPA as it's now written would remove suppressors from the regulation of the NFA, eliminate the $200 t...

Re: 30 cal 1.625" Titanium w/MAAD 51T

I considered drilling 4 or 8 small holes, about .100 to .125, through the cap into the flutes on the front, to allow greater "disbursement" of the gas, but was worried it would make the can louder. After looking at a lot of commercial silencers' designs, I couldn't find any with multiple h...

Re: 30 cal 1.625" Titanium w/MAAD 51T

The internal cone was originally the size of the step diameter, and had a bore "depth" of .350" (and no exit cone) when I first tested the can. The suppression was OK, but I believed it should be better. I modified it to this design and noticed it was a lot quieter, estimated at about...
