Re: .308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

I got a video of my buddy shooting the 300 blk SBR with the suppressor mounted. Overall, I am pleased with the performance. When behind the rifle, you hear mostly action noise. I think the next thing for this rifle may be to make a silent recapture spring to quiet it down a bit more. In the video, t...

Re: .308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

Here is the set up with the spin indexer to mill the ports. I had a lot of trouble with this and the result reflects that. I had trouble with the brake loosening up on the mandrel and the indexer sliding around on the table. Im not entirely sure what the right way to hold this thing down is because...

Re: .308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

The machining is done for this one. I got the baffles all fitted up well, made the first spacer, and milled the ports on the brake. I also spun the baffles to clean up the front ends and polish the spacer portions. Here is the set up with the spin indexer to mill the ports. I had a lot of trouble wi...

Re: mills/lathes

I made 1 on a 7x12 lathe from HF. Its good enough for the job, just very slow going and it takes some time to learn. My lathe was $450 with their 25% off coupon. It has step baffles, a threaded tube, and threaded caps. It works, it just takes forever and isnt super accurate. I sold it to get a 10x30...

Re: .308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

Well, this one is almost there. I have the tube threaded and engraved (I guess technically etched) so now all that is left is the blast baffle, spacer, milling the ports on the brake, and polishing up the insides. Once that is done, it will be tested, then sandblasted, and cerakoted. Here are some p...

http://i.imgur.com/dUbbRGW.jpg?1 Once I was very close, I locked the apron in place and cleaned up the outside with the compound. Good pics. I made my baffles much the same way. I notice your cutting tool is sticking out a long way from the holder though. If that's not absolutely necessary, you sho...

Re: .308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

I have had some time to continue working on the suppressor. I have finished 7 of the 8 cones and decided to go integral spacers. I hate working with tube and it seemed this was the best way to get a good solid fit and increase the strength a little. It also reduced the number of parts to 11 without ...

Re: .308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

Why didn't you single point the 5/8-24 threads? Other than that nice work. Looks very similar to my in process pictures although you did a better job of taking pictures of each step. I went with the tap because I think its a little tight to get the tool in there, its a bit easier to do, and I figur...

Best.
I appreciate the kind words. You guys spent a lot of time helping me understand the concepts and come up with a design. I figured the least I could do is share some pictures of the results.

At this point, no plans. I dont like knurling and my design didnt really leave room for a spanner wrench to be worked in. Ill likely just use a strap wrench if they are difficult to remove.

.308 Brake Mounted Suppressor (Picture heavy)

I posted a design thread a few months back for my form 1 .308 suppressor. There were lots of good ideas and I think we managed to design a pretty good suppressor. The plan was to start machining a few months ago as the form 1 was approved at the end of march, but I knew there was a plan to get a bet...

Re: 308 design critique

I know this is a stupid question, but does baffles for big bore rifles not get some kind of "mouse" or "vent" hole they usually are clipped or ported, or sometimes both How does the clipping help? Since this is going on a precision rifle, would it be best to leave the baffles co...

Re: 308 design critique

I had an idea to make sure the brake is still effective even when it is shortened. It was inspired by the blast shields that people use that thread onto breaks. I think as long as I drill the ports with the "Brake Enhancerâ„¢" already mounted, they should line up and should align every time....

Re: 308 design critique

I shortened the brake up a little bit. I left the hole as a circle because it will be easier for me to drill it than to mill it. I may make one with squared ports in the future though. I am not super worried about the brake performance without the can. I am hoping to shoot mostly suppressed on the 3...

Re: 308 design critique

does the brake screw onto the barrel then the can onto the brake? or is the brake completely internal to the can? if the can screws onto the brake then the brake isn't considered a silencer part and can be modified and replaced whenever you want. also, can you do a cross sectional view for us? it w...

Re: 308 design critique

I have come up with a new design and I am not entirely pleased with it. I do like the idea of a brake mount for the can, but that added 6 oz to the weight in just the cap and the brake. I also wasn't entirely sure how the brake should interact with the first baffles. The way I have it now, the first...

Re: 308 design critique

I am working on the design and getting ready to start initial machining.

If I have a mount for direct thread and one that mounts on the brake, would that be considered an adapter or extra parts in the eye of the law?

You are far more likely to get input if you propose a design. Come up with something and post it, and the guys here who know what they are talking about will tell you what you can do to improve it.

Hey guys and gals, I just submitted my first E- form this morning, That's a welcome change from the paper copies! The current project is a 9mm AR with an 8" barrel and a permanent attached can to avoid the 2 stamp rifle. So my question is, what are your thoughts on drilling and reaming the muz...

Re: 308 design critique

My Form 1 was approved today. Looks like I need to get back to work on this design. Unless cone baffles won't suppress a 308 well, I think I will use those. For materials I have decided to go with 316 stainless for the tube as I have some now I can use and I don't want to worry about titanium failin...

Re: Single point threading titanium tube

When I cut inside threads I keep the lathe unplugged and turn the chuck by hand. I set the compound at 30 degrees and feed in a few thousandths at a time. I've never cut titanium but if you turn the chuck by hand you will probably only need cutting fluid. I doubt that you'll generate much heat. Lik...
