Re: engraving question

Oh, you mean I could make the last line read "city"? But, it's as easy to add the 2 letters for state at end of city so the line reads "city, state".

Thanks again to ya'll for the help and guidance.

Re: engraving question

"Extra engraving is allowed" Good, I wasn't sure about that. I'll put the city, state line below the existing lines. I wasn't sure about the order of the lines, if it was ok to put city, state below all the other lines. Sneaking the city in just before the county is a good idea, except I p...

engraving question

Hello all - been a while since I posted here, but "Finally" got a Form 1 approved and stamp in hand for my 2nd suppressor. While working on the tube I engraved (I use a small desktop CNC for engraving) it as follows: trust name county, state mod sp-x; sn 1xxx, Cal 22LR Now I realize that s...

Re: Integral suppressors

Thanks for the comments John - I think this agrees with fishman's comments. The combo will each have a serial number, it could be the same where a manuf might wish to have matching serial numbers. OR - each unit might have totally unrelated serial number. The important this I was looking at, if the ...

Integral suppressors

Hello all. A topic came up today about integral suppressor serial numbers. When a rifle/pistol is built with an integral suppressor by a legal manufacturer (Ruger, etc) does both the suppressor and rifle/pistol receiver have a serial number? OR - does only the rifle/pistol/barrel/suppressor as a uni...

Re: Anyone experiment making high and low pressure in cans?

John A. - you mention using a very fast burning powder (pistol?) for subs in your 300BO. I had wondered about that, seemed like a good idea, but everyone seems to be focused on the faster rifle powders. Would you mind sharing what powder you are using? What do you think about Unique? A PM (or email)...

Re: lathe coolant systems

Thanks to all for the discussion on lathe coolant.... and lack of need for coolant :) An update - Yes I was using too much RPM was the the reason for overheating 17-4, especially with the chamber tool for inside the cone. By lowering the rpm, and using cutting oil I found that to work pretty good. F...

I do hope those hair curlers are for an air rifle? Should last pretty good in air only.

I sure hope these hearing protection acts pass in 2017!

You did good!!! I just "barely" understand what the booster does, and no idea how to make one. Your photos are the first I've seen inside. Thanks for posting.

lathe coolant systems

Hello all - my Form 1 is approved and in hand. I've machined 1 60º cone from 17-4 SS and had a bugger of a time getting the inside of cone. Heat was a big factor using a multi-flute 60º chamfer cutter, or with boring bar on compound. The outside cut fairly good with carbide inserts. All this is dry ...

Re: Commercial vs "kit" vs "diy"

I am a VERY much a newbie in the suppressor built. I'm in the middle of working on my very first form 1 build. While I 100% agree with Cap Link to give more credit to a DIY, there are times when a kit build would be ok... I think. Of course, NOT with claiming a "personal build" when all pa...

Re: 5.56 subs?

Along the same line, what would be a decent load for .223 subs? Playing around with QL it looks like it only takes 5 of 6 grains of 4227 or 3031 to keep a 62 grain bullet sub-sonic range. Of course it won't cycle, but would be sub sonic. Something like Unique is 3 grains or so - man, that's just a t...

Re: 5.56 subs?

Thanks for confirming my thinking. Didn't think there was anyway to make an AR-15 cycle subs. Just ain't gonna happen. I "think" the salesman just didn't have knowledge himself, I talked to him next day after my SIL purchased the box and the salesman was telling me those subs were "wh...

5.56 subs?

Hello all - Can a 5.56 (.223) sub-sonic ammo fully cycle in an AR-15 platform with a suppressor? My BIL picked up a box of .223 Remington 63 grain sub-sonic this week with the salesman telling him they would fully cycle in his AR-15. He brought them by to test in my AR-15 with suppressor. VERY quiet...

Re: Form 1 build guidance Please

Thank you so much for your help and info. I think I will go with 17-4 SS - cost isn't much and perhaps I can machine it. I'm learning more as I go along. I'll do some thinking on cones vs K baffles - K's are sorta "sexy" {g}, but cones might well be the best choice since I'm looking for fo...

Re: Form 1 build guidance Please

Good advice there, and you have given me food for thought. I've been looking for 17-4 SS and found this 12" rod: http://www.ebay.com/itm/150772097118? for $35 shipped. Is this a good choice? OR - are there less expensive sources? I've checked Industrial Metals and OnLineMetals and this seems a ...

Re: Form 1 build guidance Please

Thank you for the response. I was thinking aluminum because it's light and easy to machine and cheap :) I do have a Grizzly G0602 lathe. This is my first ever suppressor work and didn't really wish to invest too much money at start. I do NOT expect any mag dumps to speak of, maybe 1 or 2 of only 5 t...

Form 1 build guidance Please

Hello all - I've been lurking a good bit here, and "finally" my Form 1 has been approved. I'd like to ask a couple of questions to be sure I'm on the right track. I've got a 300 BO with 16" barrel. I plan to shoot mostly subs along with mid level loads, perhaps 1300 FPS range. I might...

Re: When filing for a 2nd Form 1 with a trust????

When uploading the trust for the 2nd, 3rd, 4th and so on form 1 items, does each item need to be added to the trust before uploading for the next one, or will the original trust work without adding the previously approved form 1 items? Very good question, but since the form 1 I've just submitted ha...

Re: 223 SS suppressor thickness safe limit

Hoop Stress: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cylinder_stress has a good explanation. From what I read, in the thin walls used with suppressors this is a fairly small force. BTW, you asked about how the thickness of the spacer in blast chamber would affect. "Ass-u-ming" the spacer OD is 1.370...
