If I were going to use that tube I would turn down the length after the blast chamber to something along .030".

If you use no filler you are not adding any extra weight.

I really like your .358 and I think I’m going that route based on the information you have so graciously provided. It just makes more sense.

I would definitely start reloading if you are not doing so already. That’s the only way to go if you plan on shooting more than a few times a year.

Did the 9x39 round go supersonic? I hear a crack in your video. Maybe it’s just me. I have wanted a 9x39 but I have not committed just yet.

If I were going the reflex route, then I would absolutely port the barrel.

Re: New cat on the block.....

You could use valve spring retainers instead of freeze plugs. You can get them in titanium and chrome moly and should outlast freeze plugs.

I have tried the upside down parting before and it worked fine, but my lathe weighs over a ton. Rigidity is key as always.

porting barrel

I have a few questions on porting a barrel.

1. Is there a formula to figure out muzzle velocity based on diameter of ports?
2. Does it matter if some ports get in to the lands?

Re: 30 cal Suppressor Build - Forum 1

I checked my compound and 0° is parrel so basically you subtract half the included angle from 90°to get compound angle? On most compound scales, yes, since they'd read 90° when travelling parallel to Z axis. But if your compound travels on Z axis when the scale is set to 0°, then you'll set it at 6...

I remember seeing some pictures of your welding positioner. I am wanting to build something similar. I have a rotisserie off of a grill that I thought about trying to use.

ECCO and Capt., have you tried the stepped cones on the 300 blackout? How did they perform with supers?

Re: 300 Blackout SBR

If more volume and a overbore on the baffles is good for a gas gun, could you not get good results with a large diameter short, can vs a smaller tube, more baffles? have any SOT's here experimented with this?

300 Blackout SBR

I would like to keep length at a minimum since this is going on a 10" barrel sbr. My options are a reflex design or using some 1.750" OD tubing to keep my length down. Whats the consensus on the two? Its going on a gas gun and will probably shoot supers mostly.

do yourself a favor and buy a commercial made one. If you want to actually build one, spend time reading as much as you can here. There are members here who have the experience and skills to build a superb silencer who you can learn from.

Re: Considering QD mounts for form 1

I'm not a huge fan of secondary retention locking mechanisms for most purposes, but they have their place. A proper ratio of taper to surface area with thread pitch accounted for is plenty for most purposes, though. The general plan is to build a combination flash suppressor/brake that will incorpo...

Re: Tube thickness questions

Use stainless for the tube and internals then weld it up. Or do a tubeless design. You could go thinner by using stainless if weight is a issue. There is a thread here somewhere of a members first build if I am not mistaken, he used 4130 for the tube and welded it. It has survived many years and hel...
