need to clean 300 blk subsonic?
I looked around but could not really find this answer. Do 300 Blackout subsonic rounds have enough whoosh through the barrel to keep the suppressor clean? I know there's no lead issues as with rimfire, but I wonder about powder buildup with these gentle loads. What's been your experience? Thanks.

Re: which two tubes from Titanium Joe
So an up to .005 variation is to be expected. So I'll go for a 5 thou radial gap, or say 10 to 15 thou interference fit. So outer tube 1.500 OD with .070 width and therefore 1.360 ID, I would want the spacer tube to have an OD 10 to 15 less than that. So spacer tube OD of 1.345 to 1.350. So that Tit...

Re: which two tubes from Titanium Joe
Yeah, that's what I suspected, that sometimes the tube turns out to be not 100% to spec. That's fixable of course. First question, has anyone found tubes that are in fact 100% to spec? Second question, I like the above the above poster's point that he used spacer tubes that are only half the width o...

which two tubes from Titanium Joe
I have searched the forum for this. Are there a pair of 1.500 OD Ti tubes that are commonly used by the good folk here? I mean one for the outer tube and one to be cut up for spacers inside. Say the outer tube is 1.500 OD with .070 width and therefore 1.360 ID, I would want the spacer tube to have a...

looking to buy very first lathe
This purchase would be my first lathe. Looking at a basic all purpose Grizzly. G4015Z—19-3/16" Combo Lathe/Mill I'm not a machinist. Just a semi retired guy with average handy man skills and a wish to get into the hobby. For Form 1 suppressors of course, but for general interest also. Comments ...

why do clips work?
Could someone explain why clipping cones helps? I've checked the forum but can't find a discussion on that.
I'm not asking about symmetrical vs single clips, I'm asking how it is that clipping itself seems to help.
Looking forward to your ideas.

Seriously, not trolling. Having fun. We're talking about the laws of thermal dynamics and the classical physics problem of turbulence.
Very mind bendy.

Re: increasing vs decreasing space between cones
OMG, it's both. Both oxygen and coldness are creating frp. The first blast is in a more oxygen rich environment as the atmospheric air in the can is replaced with a mess of exhaust gases, so a bit less oxygen for the second shot. But it's also the cold in the can before the first shot. Cold air is m...

Re: increasing vs decreasing space between cones
I did the same with my first F1 can, and found that with my can (using a variation on cone baffles) and subsonic rifle loads, the baffle spacing was a balance of first round pop vs suppression level of subsequent shots. Larger spacing near the rifle muzzle gave more first round pop but a quieter and...

Re: increasing vs decreasing space between cones
I think the mushroom cloud we see is just the same as the mushroom cloud from an atomic nuclear explosion. At first, the energy is so high that it rushes straight up, so fast that no sideways expansion happens. The low pressure of the air around it is of little concern. Then after travelling some di...

Re: increasing vs decreasing space between cones
But does it matter?
That's what I'm curious about.
Let's say the force is stronger in a particular area of the can. But why does that mean the chamber in that area should be large. Or small. Online I see theories going in both directions.
Does it matter, and why?
I honestly don't know.

Re: increasing vs decreasing space between cones
The videos show red heat cans at the middle. so that is where the heat buids up. so maybe small chambers at first then bigger then smaller.

increasing vs decreasing space between cones
This is for bolt action 300 blackout I see one theory that starting from the muzzle, you want a large blast chamber, then progressively smaller chambers. The theory is that you need to start with a big space to absorb the high energy blast. As energy is shed in each chamber, however, you can get awa...

Re: monocore vs welded cones. 300 blackout
Yeah, this is exactly the information I was looking for. It's starting to look like I can get equipment for making cones and threading barrels, with an investment of two grand or maybe a bit more. I'm not interested in buying a can at all. I'm interested in learning this myself. There's a lot of cho...

Re: monocore vs welded cones. 300 blackout
I am retired and would like to have a new hobby.
I would just get a simple lathe for making cones. The local college has evening courses. And I have you guys.
I know it will be fun.
Get prepared to be bothered with a lot of questions.

Re: monocore vs welded cones. 300 blackout
Hi John. Your reply didn't come across as snarky at all. It was helpful. So clearly I won't hire a machine shop. I've been thinking of buying a lathe and just learning this stuff anyway. I'll apply for my own legal paperwork. It's this forum that gives me the confidence to think I can learn these sk...

monocore vs welded cones. 300 blackout
Hello all. First time posting. I'm planning on paying friends who have a machine shop, to machine up a few of them for me. Looking for the simplest and therefore cheapest way, as I'll be paying for their time. I'm not a garage hobbyist with lots of my own time to use. I'm paying pros. Plan to use 30...
