I guess Ecco Machine and I are the only two on this board who would disagree.
I am not parroting Ecco, I happen to have the background and experience with titanium to fully agree with his prior posts on this subject.

Re: Another Solvent Trap Vendor Shut Down ?
From Scott at SPC: “ Shopify dropped us without warning. Website is partially back up. PayPal only until credit card stuff finishes. Kit are not set up yet.”.
The site got up and fully functional today.
Typical Scott...really good guy who works really hard to deliver quality products.

Re: Welding endcaps
You really do not want to use 416 SS for what you intend to do. The chemistry was not designed with welding in mind...it has intentional S additions to aid machining but that negatively impact welds. Additionally, with 416 chemistry, as-welded hardness will be too high. Since you are using a 316 tub...

Aegis-Products Out ofBusiness ?
Have been trying to access the Aegis-Products web site multiple times recently. They sell some decent products for Form 1 builders.
I keep getting redirected to a web site offering to sell the domain name.
Are they out of business ?

Re: Suppressor Delimma
With the info that you've given, the results are illogical. The larger internal volume, and longer length after the "uncorking" at the muzzle, mean that something must be wrong with the larger can. They are both the same design? Maybe posting some pictures would help. Otherwise, this make...

Re: Suppressor Delimma
While I wouldn't expect the larger can to be dramatically louder as you're describing, excessive internal volume absolutely can work against you, causing pressure to attenuate too quickly and not do what it's supposed to do with internal features, like hitting the clips & disrupting laminar flo...

New to Form 1 building and my first experience with two Form 1 suppressers I built. My dilemma is the distinct performance difference between the two cans. Data: One can is 1.5” OD x 8” long with 8 baffles, the other 1.75” x 9” long with 9 baffles Both cans share the following features: 60 degree c...

Help with Maverick Raven Build
Am looking at Maverick Precision Raven (1.50” OD/1.375 ID x 8” long) for supersonic 30 cal/6.8 use. The website shows the available length for the baffle stack is 5.520. The length for the baffle stack seems a bit too short to accommodate the 6- 7 baffles with recommended spacing per this forum (my ...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
MMW advertised their spacers as GR5 titanium? It just says Titanium on their website, unless they have changed it. If they never specified what alloy of titanium (if any) their spacers are, then they are technically as advertised. GR5 spacers is too much work for a spacer. The more time and tool ti...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
On the form 1 board there was a question on whether the Ti was a grade 5 or not. Do you have the capability to test it? Do you have any MMW Ti cones? Tested one each of MMW Ti cup and spacer. Both advertised as Gr5 Ti. Short summary: Cup was G2G. Spacer, not as advertised Gr 5 Ti: - Odd chemistry, ...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
So I finally got around to testing some of my stock. The good news is that everything I have marked 17-4 is magnetic. And everything I have marked 316 or 3xx is nonmagnetic. But the 416 is also magnetic. Any other tips for how a layperson can tell all these apart? Forgot to mention: Your “416” shou...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
A few views to consider: You cannot read too much into testing with a magnet. The way you are using it, it’s a sorting tool to discern martensitic or ferritic stainless steel from austenitic stainless steels. You are not going to be able to determine or divine anything more specific. Just for some c...

No such thing as low magnetic 17-4...unless you use a very low gauss magnetic from your refrigerator.

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
I sent a long response but it seems to have vanished into the internet either. Maybe it will eventually find its way, but in the mean time: I plan to test Ti cups and spacers when I return to the USA. Test will be for vanadium content, the distinguishing element between Grade 5 and 9. This is my las...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
The analyzer did not have light element detection capability (detection range of the analyzer: Ti -U), thus S was not measured. Was not interested in the exact 300 SS grade and did not bother with light element analysis with a higher end analyzer.

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
That is informative. Theory and opinions aside, test data trumps all else. We have models for erosion with empirical inputs, but parameter limitations do not encompass the velocity, temperature and high velocity particle angularity/hardness encountered in suppressors . Thank you for the education. W...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
I have the solution you seek. 300c maraging steel. Too bad the stuff is so damn expensive. 422 has mechanical properties just barely below 300c with better corrosion resistance and lower material cost. That's why I use it. 422 is stronger at 900°F than 17-4 H900 at room temp. ECCO, Indeed...my prio...

Re: Cone and Spacer Material: Beware of False Advertising
Wanted to give vendor a chance to reply and do the right thing. Seems their approach is to ignore email I sent explaining, in detail, the actual metallurgy of their advertised 17-4PH skirtless cones and “17-4 PH” spacers. Recall in my previous post that I emailed them about their SS spacers, asking ...

Re: Drilling Misshap
The problem is everything I said is a 100% correct and you just can't accept the fact that I'm right and yes I disagree with you that a Austintic stainless steel that is non hardable will not work harden I have some recently acquired 17-4 PH cups and spacers, that look and test just like 304 SS, I ...
