Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

Have some free time over the next week, so I'll be able to get some baseline data on a variety of ammo through the factory length 5.5" barrel. My plan is to use the Magnetospeed to collect some velocity data. The intention is to shorten the barrel to get consistent sub-sonic velocities even with bul...

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

Well better delayed then never. Now that eForms is back and lightening fast, I FINALLY submitted my Form 1 on Nov 8th and got it back this past Saturday, so it's time to get serious about this project. https://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e398/unclemoak/2018-11-24_11-57-28.jpg Over the last year, I al...

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

Dusting off this project. And coming up with a few different monocore designs. I posted to the F1 cans FB group and the responses went as expected.... them:"that's a bad design" me: How so? them:"it's just bad" me: ..... thanks http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e398/unclemoak/2017-11-14_17-41-11.jpg...

Added my Form 1 can.......accuracy seems to have improved dramatically???

I built an LR308 about a month ago and have been working on sorting out all the reliability bugs, mainly shooting Hertenberger Surplus. In the past few weeks I've also been getting into reloading, so this evening I was setting up some load development to figure out what the gun likes. I noticed init...

Re: Booster-less micro cans vs slide weight

All interesting thoughts. Hopefully once my meters get back, I can start gathering some baseline info.

Booster-less micro cans vs slide weight

For those that are familiar with designing and building smaller, booster-less cans, what is the relationship like between reducing the slide weigh in respect to how heavy of a can that wil still reliably cycle? E.G. If I reduce the weight of my slide 1oz, does that mean it could cycle with a 1oz hea...

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

It took some searching, but I finally came up with a handful of meters. Some work and some are for parts. The best part is they were all FREE!!!

Now I just have to find some microphones.

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

It's been a while. I was waiting in search of a lathe chuck for the 4th axis for my machine as well as finding some sound meters for testing. Looks like I'm almost there. Now I just have to find some microphones.

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

Just a quick pro tip for anyone buying or searching for a meter online. Make sure the seller confirms it works. I ended up getting my meter then talking to an audio tech to get it up and running, but it turned out the meter was shot and wouldn't work. Thankfully the eBay seller was willing to give m...

Thanks for the help.
Yes, the LD800B is one of the 2 meters that exist to give mil-spec results.

For the 800b you'd need a 2530 mic.

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

Reading through my old 2209 manual, I noticed that it mentioned that the standard min rise time of 20 microseconds could actually be reduced to as little as 5 microseconds with minor internal alterations, and it suggests contacting B&K to talk with them about it. Does anyone think such a modificati...

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

I finally got my 800b in the mail today. Although I haven't yet found the correct mic for it, I must say I'm thoroughly confused on how to use it. Looks like I'll be spending the next couple days reading the instruction manual. Hopefully the B&K I have on the way is a little easier to use than this...

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

If you are trying to do mil spec testing why not do it right and get a calibrator?

I'll likely end up finding one. Just commenting on what Larson told me.

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

Well that wasn't cheap. Ended up getting it for $810, but I still will need a Mic and calibrator to go with it. Ouch! After talking to a Larson Davis engineer this afternoon, it seems the 2540 mic it comes with will work for the .22 I'm metering, but the 2530 would be better suited for larger calib...

Re: Any sound meter recommendations?

You can find used Larson Davis 800b's for under $1000 but the mic will cost you $1200. The best thing to do is rent one, unless you are either a manufacturer or just have plenty of money buying a meter is not reasonable. You will not get an accurate reading with anything less than this set-up. I am...

Any sound meter recommendations?

I'm looking to start some somewhat formal testing for a form 1 project and was wondering if there's any suggested sound meters to use? Any tips on brands and/or features would be appreciated.

I didn't really have a set budget, but would like to stay under $750.

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

Sorry there hasn't been an update in a while. I've been a little tied up with other things (work, building a kitchen table, etc). The search for .22 ammo still continues. I have the misfortune of making myself buy another 1930rds for........$204!@$%#^@$% that'll be coming in this week. Hopefully on ...

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

As I mentioned before, I wasn't able to locate tubing that was exactly what I needed, so I had to bore out the 0.624" ID tubing to close to the right size. I had a little bit of time this evening, so I faced and drilled out the tubing to 47/64ths (just under the final 3/4" size). Later I'll ream it ...

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

You could still add sumps between bore chambers. Mill out sections at top and bottom of core that boreline chambers bleed into. This creates extra volume and valves that delay release of stagnant gas back into Boreline Chambers. There have been many threads here showing this. I don't have time to s...

Re: Building a 22/24 integral can

This is my new thought on going to a sleeve over the receiver design, which is still very conceptual at this point. I would essentially be taking my piece of 1.0" OD x .75" ID material for the receiver and cutting the barrel threads in it, then pressed it into a 1.125" OD x 0.995" ID tube. Then I wo...

Parts are starting to roll in. On Friday my ejectors and rivets came in from Ruger. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e398/unclemoak/20140407_171847.jpg And the UPS man just dropped off the steel for the test receivers. http://i43.photobucket.com/albums/e398/unclemoak/Mobile%20Uploads/20140407_17133...
