The other option would be to get another lower setup as a pistol, then you could take the short upper
Depends on what you are really wanting.
For me, specifically for hunting, I try and keep dedicated weapons for hunting purposes.

Well your topic title is do you, but your posts asks can you.
Yes you can, No personally I don't. I file .20s and take them as SBRs

Re: SBR Encore to SBS?
I have never seen anything official from BATFE, but was told by an 07/02 that if it was a smoothbore barrel it would need to be registered as a sbs. If it was a rifled barrel (even as a shotgun gauge chambering) it would be a sbr. There are a few scenarios I have thought of in this respect. The TC i...

+1 - That's the efile difference I noted (couldn't remember off the top of my head the specifics)cdrissel wrote:If you are e-filing put/enter "FMI" not form1 in manufacturer.
That's - "Foxtrot, Mike, India" NOT "Foxtrot, Mike, One"

Re: Where to engrave 10/22 ZK-22 SBR?
Don't worry about the stock covering the engraving, it covers Ruger's markings as well. If it really bothers you submit the F1 with specs for the original stock, engrave the reciever or the barrel, cut it, mount it in the original stock - congratulations you built your F1 gun now put it in the bullp...

Re: SBRing an AR pistol with a SIG Brace. Handgun and SBR?
This is the point though, OP is talking federal laws and state laws. Federally speaking everything is fine with an approved stamp and this particular configuration (no matter what is on your mind about the brace or where you actually stick it at any given time) - no issues. State issue however is th...

Re: SBR a 80% receiver or a commercial receiver?
If you are building the SBR from an 80%, just fill out the form1 the same as you would a scratch built silencer. Don't get fancy, just enter the info just like it asks. There are some special instructions for efile if you are submitting with a trust or corp if I remember right. Are you filing as an ...

Re: Help with lathe, 13x36 Clausing
Not that that isn't a decent lathe, BUT I wouldn't pay that much for that machine. 3 reasons - 1) as has been brought up, the power feed issue has trouble written all over it. If it is the lead screw that would also likely effect cutting threads 2) Look at the spray paint job. That would indicate to...

Re: Endcap design question.
You will notice the weight more than the sound reduction, and there is no easy way of machining it other than solid wieght
I tried it on my last form1 build - no advantage that I found. It was for a bolt gun used on a bipod or a bag so the weight didn't bother me either.

Re: Registering lower for future build
First, do you have any short uppers now (ie. other SBRs or pistols)? If so the easiest way to do this is to submit the form1 to build a new SBR with a currently owned upper - fill the form out to those specs. Get form back, slap everything together and tada - a SBR. You can then feel free to change ...

A recent similar discussion http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_6_51/463796_SBR_Glock_configured_as_a_pistol_.html I have never seen anything but hearsay about this issue. As far as I have seen, there has been no "official" stance from BATFE If pushed, I'd say they will favor the ruling that SBR back to pi...

Re: considering 9mm AR PDW build...
No personal experience with the PDW type stocks for the AR in 9mm, but have read many issues with them over at ARFCOM. Personally I think the AR in 9mm too heavy to be a PDW anyway. Have you considered other platforms? If I had more money some on my radar are: Scorpion, Glock in a Roni (or similar) ...

Re: Changing the caliber and length on Form 1
Old logic was to always list it a little larger than you thought it would be as a silencer shorter than the approved length is ok in BATFE mindset as repairs are allowed. Recently there have been writings about that BATFE says use best guess and if it ends up different after construction to notify t...

Re: Question on legal limits of bore clearance?
So basically the charge would be possession of an unregistered silencer, which you would then be in a position of defending yourself against. Now, in this position, you bear the burden of proof. You have to prove that you are not guilty beyond a reasonable doubt. How likely is it that you would be ...

Are you looking for your your check, or $200 removed from your acnt?

Re: Question on legal limits of bore clearance?
I have never seen or heard of any law or ruling on the caliber marking vs actual bore size. Therefore, it would come down to ATF agent discretion of whether they thought the device broke any actual law. The most likely laws I can think of are 1) you were approved to build a silencer for caliber X an...

Disclaimer: I don't have or use a trust
From everything I have read, you only need to inform them if there is a change while something is in process.
Meaning between submitting a form and receiving the approved/disapproved form back

Re: AR15 SBS?
I always wondered similar for a 20 gauge, 22 mag combo gun. Or those single shots that have a shotgun barrel and a rifle barrel using the same action. You'd almost have to go over all the federal definitions and see where exactly it fit. It could be a SBR, even if a shotgun just from the definition ...

So I called my local ATF branch and spoke to an employee. I was told, (his opinion) that it was okay to have swappable innards consistent with multiple calibers... Re: Taking Form 1 to my Sheriff -- what do I need to take with me?
Be prepared to leave the forms and return to get them after they are signed. In my experience, I drop the forms off at the PD. The CLEO (or officer he has designated to do so for him) will sign them when they have time. Then I pick them back up at my convenience. My first time, I did as you are and ...

I would recommend SBRing a standard AR lower if it were me but I'm not an AK fan.
I would think the AR lower to have the most versatility if you didn't want to submit anything after july
