Re: Walther PPX M1 SD thread spec...

Does anyone have a reference to the Walther PPX M1 SD thread spec (9mm)? I presume it's metric and I can measure it, but it would be nice to find the exact spec. They are threaded .5-28, according to their website, and several other sites that have posted reviews. Odd, I couldn't find it listed on ...

Re: Yuasa vertical mill anyone?

Light surface rust of the kind that can be removed with a Scotchbrite pad generally isn't an issue. It's a bit odd how the paint seems to be flaking everywhere, but perhaps the OEM paint job wasn't too good. If you want a picture perfect paint job, that will be a pretty labor intensive project to st...

Re: Yuasa vertical mill anyone?

It far cheaper to hire help than to be injured trying to save a dollar. You may know how to do it safely while he is just starting out.I have moved many machines but I can't send my experience through the mail. The cost of the equipment alone warrants consideration of hiring help. Bridgeport moves ar...

Re: Yuasa vertical mill anyone?

I looks like a Katrina machine. Its worth the scrap price but would need lots of work. If it runs $750 with all the tools and that wooden chair. Point out that new machines can be had for 5K delivered. You have to hire a rigging crew to move it @ 500-1000$ Labor and paint is going cost lots of your ...

Re: Yuasa vertical mill anyone?

I was pretty sure the price was out of sight, but she had absolutely no clue and was likely throwing a wild $$$$ out there. I told her I would investigate, and get back with her in a week or so. The ways had some rust and we're dirty, but everything moved. I'm certain there is not another machine c...

Re: Yuasa vertical mill anyone?

$1,200 tops. Not in pristine shape, can't really tell the condition of the ways from the pics, no DRO, does have a power feed on the X axis. There would have to be a lot of quality tooling to make $3k remotely reasonable.

Re: Extending pistol barrels...

Yes, it does have the hourglass. I have a pretty well equipped shop, and basic replacement barrels aren't too expensive so I'm not overly concerned from that angle. I can see two possible ways to extend it: - Turn down the front portion of the barrel, make an extension to fit over and silver braze i...

Extending pistol barrels...

Since it appears that there are no aftermarket extended threaded barrels available for my favorite S&W 5906, can someone point me to a tutorial on the accepted method(s) for extending a pistol barrel? I have a general machining concept of ways it might be accomplished, but not being a "real" gunsmit...

Machinable wax - test your g-code on a bar of machinable wax, measure and verify dimmensions then drop the "non supressor part" in the melt pot to recast into another bar of wax.

Re: Are there any baffle moulds?

"Powdered metalurgy" - Becoming rather common, many of the step blocks in mill clamping sets are made this way, gears as well, etc. Compress metal powder and binder in a mould under high pressure, demould and heat / sinter. Not quite a form 1 home shop process yet though.

Re: Lost trust

This is certainly a reminder that you need to have backup copies of anything important as well as backups for those backups. Both a hardcopy and an electronic copy (thumb drive, CD) in a safe deposit box, in a home fire safe, and anywhere else you have you can store stuff is a really good idea.

Re: eForm Form 1 difficulties...

It seems I've made it onto some email distribution list as of this morning and am receiving system shutdown notices. I guess that's progress. I wish they received proper funding to enable them to better keep up with the deluge of applications. It seems a set of documentation / guides does get sent t...

Re: eForm Form 1 difficulties...

Once you start adding your line item, there is the option for Manufacturer by name, or by code. Choose by code, then enter FMI and verify that. It means form 1 manufacturer. When you go to the next screen, that's where you'll enter your item information, such as Silencer, SBR, etc. Is there some in...

FMI? Where is that from? The correct manufacturer would be the trust, or no manufacturer at all since the item doesn't exist in any form before the approved form 1?

eForm Form 1 difficulties...

In trying to enter my first eForm Form 1, I'm running into difficulties with the form even after going to the trouble of getting IE8 going on a PC per the recommendations on the eForm site. When I get to the line item section and try to add a line item the "Type" field is not getting populated thus ...
