M48 (spotter-tracer) silencer
If I'm able to obtain an M48 upper for my AR-15, I'm going to make a silencer for it. The Army Ammunition Data Sheet for small caliber ammo says a 110 grain charge of IMR 7383 is used to propel the 833 grain bullet 1745 fps with a chamber pressure of 38000 psi. I think I can safely bring it up to 18...

Re: homemade silencer
I don't attract much of a crowd anymore as compared to ten years ago when I let police officers op check my cans; before the attorney general wrote and said that they were not actually exempt from prosecution (pre-2011) for using them. I have compared mine to a few commercial cans, results were mixe...

No idea, no meter here. Few silencers to compare to also. Owner likes it though.

I thought I had posted about that build, but I couldn't find it. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u320/ranb40/suppressors/308baffles_zpsbd2b7c65.jpg Here is a 5.56 build I helped a guy with. It uses a similar cone and K baffle arrangement. I'll be going with a cone/spacer build for my next 5.56 an...

It was a way to adjust the length of the blast chamber. I don't remember how it actually came out on the lathe, I sometimes deviate a lot from the drawings I make.

They do. I also have a port in each K baffle in front. I've abandon K's for center fire rifles, using clipped cones now.

Re: A BILL TO REMOVE SUPPRESSORS FROM THE NFA
Does this bill actually exist yet? I can't find a link to it anywhere even on Representative Salmon's webpage. If it really exists it will get my enthusiastic support even if it adds certain legal hassles to using silencers in WA. WA RCW 9.41.250 says; (c) Uses any contrivance or device for suppress...

I tried pressing in stages and while it worked better, I never got the full 60 degree cone I wanted. I wasn't able to heat my metal any hotter than I could get with a small propane torch, so better heat might make a difference.

Just fine for welded end caps, maybe not for threaded. If you make it all steel you can chemically clean it if it gains weight from using cast ammo. It would probably be less of a hassle to find a welder you can use than to make threaded end caps.

I'm too cheap to buy the 240 grain Sierra hpbt, so I buy the 220 grain round nose. About 9 grains of H110 gives me 1050 fps.

Have a photo of the cutting bit you used? I'm finding that it is hardest to machine the inside of a cone baffle that is less than half an inch wide.

Clark is stupid and un-American. Americans sympathetic to the Nazis in the USA were not generally rounded up for internment during WWII. Kuhn was sent to prison on other charges though.

You can load anything subsonic; just need to pay attention to your twist rate to ensure the bullet does not yaw and cause baffle strikes. http://www.bergerbullets.com/twist-rate-calculator/ I typically load to 1050 fps; this stays subsonic until about 0F. http://www.sengpielaudio.com/calculator-spee...
