Re: New SilencerCo Octane vid

Bender I know you are trying to help, but I am seeing inconsistencies in your replys. I see no inconsistency in his replies, what I see is a nuanced understanding of ATF regulations. It's not that hard to understand. 1. On a Saker, the REAL front endcap of the silencer is 360-degree welded on. It s...

Re: Tried a straight razor..

I actually was using a badger brush and soap with a cartridge razor pre-beard. If I go back to shaving I will probably try a DE.

Re: New SilencerCo Octane vid

Silencerco must have gotten a variance (or whatever the proper legal term is), because you can buy a 5.56 end cap for the Saker 7.62 without a stamp. No variance needed as they don't classify as silencer parts, they are merely accessories. That said they still had to be approved by ATF but no varia...

Re: Tried a straight razor..

I actually was considering a DE safety razor before I grew the beard. You like them? I felt that clogging of the blade cartridges was causing razor burn long before the blades were truly dulled and that the safety razors should be immune to clogging. What's the deal with the curved/twisted ones?

Re: Chemistry Question: The "dip"

Been a long time since I took Organic, but most chemical reactions run to equilibrium, not necessarily completion IIRC. If so it would be safer to assume that some amount of lead acetate remains in solution even after precipitation with Epsom salt.

Re: Help me figure out my Suppressor needs?

Yeah some people say that but a lot of guys run silenced 1911s without issue. And, as noted above, many companies now sell silencer-ready 1911s from the factory.

Re: SilencerShop and Liberty Suppressors calling it quits!

Silencer Shop is the Bud's Guns of silencers. I transferred a SeaFire Diamond to them last year and they have a $500 SOT. That means they gross less than $500K in business a year so they are not as big as people think. And when ATF finds out they are mailing silencers to people instead of doing 447...

Re: Getting the lead out

I have an AWC Raider 5.56 NATO can that has also had .22LR through it. The can is a welded unit so it can't be dissasembled. I have no idea how much lead may be in there from shooting 22LR through a 22 adaptor on the AR or a Marlin 880SQ threaded for ½-28TPI. I didn't know about the leading issue w...

Re: Tried a straight razor..

I grew a beard this year. Dude, Rob, I cut people open for a living and that video made my skin crawl. Your face looked like it went through a paper shredder. When I shave, I use a Sensor Excel from like 1990. Two blades only, doesn't clog like the modern whiz-bang things. I did get a straight-razor...

Re: New SIG 762 can

You have more contact with AAC guys than I do, but I recall one of them telling me the specific design of that area was for flash reduction. I think there are better ways if simply accessing the volume is all you want.

Re: Need help picking silencers

My local dealer also has an AAC SPR/M4 demo model ($500). I can't find as much about this one as it does not appear to be currently carried by Silencershop. It appears to be an older can with a good reputation, but I don't know if there is new technology that has surpassed this. I have also heard c...

Re: Need some education on selling a can/upgrading

Just keep it. SWR Specwars are quieter and now cost $500, with mount included and it's a better mount than the 18T. The market will be incredibly small. I wouldn't pay more than $200 for an old M4-1000, and I even own one and like it.

Re: Buying suppressor in NC

NC law now states that federal registration is a valid reason for possession, ie, you no longer have to be a merchant or scientist or any of that crap. Just put "Consistent with the laws of the U.S. and NCGS 14-288.8" and you are good.

I got a lot less excited about the Spartan 3 when I found out it's all stainless and no inconel/stellite. You can expect reduced lifespan on an SBR.

OP, you will not be disappointed by a Tirant or a Specwar, they are both very solid, well-regarded silencers.

Re: Which would you choose for your .22?

The primary justifications for the element are that it is much lighter than many competitors, and that it is quieter on a pistol than many competitors. That being said, you can find deals on them. I bought mine for less than SilencerShop's price on the Sparrow.

Re: Socom 556 acceptable sound reduction?

Just a followup post... I have the can home now and have shot it a few times. In comparison to the AAC M4-1000 Mod 08 it is definitely louder on an equivalent barrel length, but still does a reasonable job of taming the worst of the muzzle report. Compared to an M4-2000 or Saker it is substantially ...

Re: SilencerShop and Liberty Suppressors calling it quits!

If true, then Liberty are clueless about what MAP actually means and what MAP contracts can enforce. MAP is just that, minimum ADVERTISED price. As in, they can't ADVERTISE a lower price to the general public. But if they require people to join as members before being able to see a price, then MAP r...

Re: Which would you choose for your .22?

How truly wrong you are on #3. If you plan to shoot more than, say, 1,000 rounds of .22LR ammo through your silencer in its lifetime, ease of cleaning/maintenance needs to become substantially more important to you. If you can live with the few dB difference between models, then maintenance should c...

I handled a Salvo for the first time last week. Holy bejesus the thing is the size of a boat oar. I want my shotguns to be quieter too but actually handling the thing made me think twice. Is anyone here actually using one yet? At full 12" size it seemed ludicrous to hang it on anything but a very sh...

Re: Squeaky, high-pitched-sounding silencers

Not sure I agree with the above. I have a video from the (2006 or 2007) silencer shoot where the Clyde Armory guys are shooting a .223 bolt gun with an old Ceiner reflex can. Every other gun audible in the video sounds like a normal suppressed gunshot, so I think the camera mic was reasonably accura...

Re: New SIG 762 can

The original purpose of the tapered shape and holes was to create a coaxial space to bleed the blast chamber into. Not really, the "whistle holes" are a flash reduction feature, not a faux reflex chamber. That said, clearly the Sig can isn't using this system, so having it tapered there seems kind ...

Knights Armament built a silenced revolver that had an enclosure around the cylinder to deaden the gases escaping from the cylinder gap. I don't have a pic on my laptop but it's a funky looking thing.
