Re: Bore for 308 muzzle brake/Compensator?

Also, when I delved into making a muzzle device, I studied some brand name devices. I noticed on some of the more effective ones, that the first hole(s) were a bit larger than the following holes, so that some gas could actually go past the first baffle and work against the second or third baffles o...

That's a s--t ton of work and hassle, and it's illegal.

Just get a 30 cal can, and go to town..... or make a new one.

Re: grade 9 drilling question

Good sharp cobalt steel drill bit, flood coolant, slow speed. You should punch right into grade 5 with no issues. You have to push though, you can't take teeny tiny skim cuts, titanium hardens quickly, and you have to push through the hardened layer with each turn of the material. My guess is that i...

Re: grade 9 drilling question

Not easier, but I'd only use grade 9 for the tube, and not for internals or endcaps. Grade 5 is stronger.

Re: grade 9 drilling question

Why grade 9 bar? Buy some grade 9 tube, and grade 5 bar. Sounds like you are not being aggressive enough and have work hardened the Ti. Don'tlet aanything dwell in the hole. Ever.

Re: Preventing baffle strikes

Being someone that makes my own silencers from scratch, I find that a simple visual check is very accurate. Place the bore with can attached on something still like a table or bench so that a bright surface, or preferably the sky can be seen from the breech looking out. It's very noticeable if thing...

Re: Homeade heavy buffer

Ha ha, no guys, I included the obligatory 3 sliding weights with spacers. I used steel for the internal weights. Spring has zero binding, no bounce, and the gun ran 100 rounds flawlessly today(more than it ever has without a malfunction), if there was some issue with the larger diameter, I could alw...

Re: Which cut works best clipped cones?

Don't over think it. They all serve the same purpose. In general, I try to cut away enough material that would equal the area displaced by the projectiles cross section at the diameter. Would you mind saying that in English? like for 30 caliber, the area about as big around as a pencil is what I'd ...

Re: would this stuff be safe?

Just my 2 cents worth, but I wouldn't trust it. Anytime a metal is worked into a pattern, like that, you can't help but intropressure hardening, weak points, and stress risers. Maybe for a .22 rimfire, but I personally wouldn't use it for anything bigger. Too many unknowns about it. I believe that ...

Re: 9mm blueprint + questions

Seems heavy from what i gather via the diagram..

Why not k-baffles? Also anywhere you use steel, I'd use titanium.

What platform would you use this on? If a dropping block action, you'll require a booster.

If a rifle, a simple threaded design, possibly beefier design if doing full auto stuff.

Re: Unburned powder in 300 blk

I've had the issue with 150gr bullets, so much that I would have feed jams due to powder filling the chamber enough that it would only take 2 mags to induce. Bcg was covered with powder flakes also.

A1680. I never had these issues with 200+ gr bullets.

Re: Gas Relief Slots: Who else has done this?

Was the testing for sound reduction Gunny? If so, it would be easy enough to extrapolate the data. From a ratio perspective anyway. As was asked earlier, the specific design in question would likely lead to better feedback. There are just too many variables for extrapolated data to be of much use wh...

Re: Gas Relief Slots: Who else has done this?

I'm not convinced you'll find the type of data you're looking for. If someone was to go through all that testing, likely the concluded design would be from a mfg. Not likely those type results would be public. But, you never know if you don't ask! Good luck, welcome, and let us know if you find it.

so if a guy wanted to make this kit into a legal Form 1 suppressor, it would be in this order 1. buy the parts (leave as is, make no changes to it) 2. design the can based on those parts 3. submit Form 1 4. receive approved Form 1 5. make LEGAL can? is that correct? yes, that is one way to make a s...
