Re: Is It Legal?

Ghen, I "get it" regarding your hand engraved markings in that thread. I've done just enough hand engraving to understand the appeal, and to marvel at the effort involved.

Whatever the reason, YOU want it that way, and it'd be nice to make it happen.

And whoever does it will have a "silencer" that looks slightly better than a potato, but not as nice as a pop bottle. State legality aside, I've never understood the tens of thousands of attempts at illegal silencers out there when a real one can be had without that much trouble. Guys with...

Re: Would this be a suppressor part?

The answer is here from two guys. Thread the rifle's tubular HAND GUARD. Take the new part, thread that to mate with the guard just threaded, but unthreaded at the front. Make it just slightly larger in OD than the suppressor, and bore it at the front so that it is a very neat sliding fit to the can...

^^ You are THE MAN (the good kind) for standing up procedurally in your duty, dotting i's and all that stuff. That's what keeps good cops good. I think what irritates people more than anything about police is the blue-line thing, how police (I speak generally) will gather the miscreant cop into the ...

Nice! I would have KILLED for that thing as a boy growing up in Northern Illinois.

I hope it has the power you're looking for. I'd be concerned those tires are going to spin and not deliver traction in the snow. Is there such a thing as a snow tire for a John Deere tractor?

Re: Tolerance.

I'm considering boring a tube from bar to ensure its concentric. Welcome! But what you say here is not a trivial exercise, at all. First, you need some long and very rigid/heavy boring bars to even make the attempt, and if what you are loading into the lathe is a 1.25" slug of 316, I shudder a...

Re: Idea for blastchamber finned heatsink.

But if we pursue the surface area angle to the extreme, we will be back to stuffing out cans with chore-boy scrubbies. Somewhere in the middle is that optimum blend of volume, geometry, and surface area. I would venture to say that yes surface area absorbs thermal energy, but its primary role is gas...

Re: Form 1 for a MG

No one would have known if he didn't say anything. That's the "wink wink" part of the deal. It would be illegal, but the form 1 does not specify HOW or WHEN the making occurred. The form 1 does not have "converted with a DIAS" anywhere on it. The bad news is this for guys with s...

Re: Orderd a new lathe!! Updated with pics!

Ken, the guys are right, and you'll find you prefer it this way. 90% of the turning you do is to a diameter. The other 10%, just bend your brain a bit. Like for threading, to get a depth, you'll have to go X2. I have a DRO on my lathe, and it stays in DIA (diameter) mode almost all of the time. The ...

I don't know... I'm probably over reacting. I recently joined a distillation forum because I am very interested in the process for fuel and for self-sufficiency, and it's been really eye-opening just how friendly they've been. Very patient to me and other noobs with really stupid questions. Maybe it...

That's me, Phil, and thanks. I'm glad to hear people have enjoyed the site. It was a lot of fun putting up the projects as they came along, but I found towards the end I was spending more time working on the web site than I was in the shop, and I got a bit burned out. It's funny, the earlier project...

Form 1 for a MG

I know, I know, these will NOT be approved today. But let's go back in time. It's 1985, and you have an approved form 1 to make a FA AR-15. Some guys did this, but rather than drill a sear hole, they used a DIAS, creating a so-called "married" sear gun. These have since been ruled as "...

It may be a great trigger but its fast fire mode from the reports I am seeing doesn't work as advertised. If it "worked as advertised" the ATF would probably recall it as a post-86 MG. Often, with stuff like this, right up there with Su-Press-On "Guaranteed pre-81 Drop In Auto Sears!...

This forum is getting a bit snarky

We used to be an exceptionally friendly forum, IMO, especially to new guys. Is it just me, or has the tone gotten a bit mean, bullying at times, a bit harsh? I've done my share of it, but only when a particular individual went out of his way to be a braying ass. Otherwise, I've tried to be helpful a...

That thing looks like a prototype weapon for a Robot Wars entry. My full-on Dork is showing... my kids and I loved Robot Wars. There was one entrant that ruled them all, a wedge-shaped guy with a super-low front end, and a hardened steel scorpion tail. He'd dash in, get underneath the enemy, then ac...

Ghost guns ALWAYS have the Shoulder Thing That Goes Up. This increases rate of fire by 500%, lethality by 10,000%, and gives guaranteed hits on jumbo jets full of beautiful children at greater than 10 miles.

Plus, they have a bayonet lug.

Re: Punkinhead's build plan

I guess I am in the minority - I'd make them full tube ID at both front and rear and slide them on in. There's just not that much pressure with .22LR. With the same diameter both ends, the semi-finished baffle can be parted off, reversed, and then (as mentioned) held in a split tube, or even better,...

If you do a staggered or asymetric monocore, I recommend you position the first void area of the core symmetric with the bore. This is just one guy's opinion, but if it is a rimfire can, I'd not make any sort of "blast baffle" as it can contribute to first round pop. If you do K baffles, m...

Go for it, guys. The only way you'd lose that money is if the current way of owning a MG is legislated away. Otherwise, the odds of the MG market "crashing" is pretty slim. There isn't a single MG variant on the price guide that has gone down in value except for some blips associated with ...

Wow, that is Art! Cedar strips? Beautifully executed. I'd love to work more with wood. It's hard to have both a wood and metal shop unless you have two separate buildings, or rooms at least, because the wood dust doesn't mix well with machine tools. It's hard enough to keep metal free from r...

It's difficult to apply an indicator to the ways of a lathe. The problem - where you MOUNT the indicator. If you simply stick a mag-mounted indicator on the carriage, and tracked the carriage back and forth, since the carriage follows the way, it'll simply read zero all along it. Picture a roller co...

Re: How is this legal?

The 3MR allows the shooter to simulate full-auto fire by way of a very ingenious trigger modification that’s 100% BATF legal. How the trigger works is by using the bolt carriers rearward motion to push the trigger forward thus aiding in the reset. If you hold the trigger back, it fires a single sho...
