Re: Sub $1k lathe including shipping 8x16 with 5” chuck 1.5” pass thru
Will do, I still have cover off and tuning unit up. I am currently working on a chuck mounting plate for my 6” 4-jaw to fit this lathe. It has 2” pass thru, then I will hone out the spindle the rest of the way for just over 1.5”. The compound slide would be much smoother with a ball bearing installe...

First 4.25 inches are 1.675 rest is under 1.5 but can be honed to allow 1.5 to pass.

Re: Planning my first silencer build
Fantastic! I'm going to give this a try. So what's the negative in doing this? one last thing. so say a thread has a .024" height do you just feed in .024" total or is there a little more to it than that? Thanks again Many lathes can't cut smooth threads using a plunge cut.Machine flex an...

Re: Planning my first silencer build
wait so you guys are losing me. Your saying you can single point thread without having to use the compound? as in you just use the cross slide to increase your cuts? Yes, you can just feed the cross-slide in. When you use the compound, you're cutting w/ the left (spindle) side of the tool. With the...

Re: Sub $1k lathe including shipping 8x16 with 5” chuck 1.5” pass thru
Thanks! I was interested in ordering one, but only if it had the 1.5” passthru as listed. The 5” chuck would need to have been modified for a 1.5” as 1.18” is common for a 5” chuck. Hate to order one and have to go thru hassle of sending it back. I like the small size as I don’t want a 1000lb plus l...

Sub $1k lathe including shipping 8x16 with 5” chuck 1.5” pass thru
The 1.5” passthru will help with inside threading longer 1.5” diameter pieces. All metal gears as well. Still a cheap lathe but the lowest priced unit with that large of a bore. I believe it’s a mt5 spindle. Search eBay with 8x16 750w Model TS-210 Brand Taishi eBay For those in need of a step up fro...

I think that's what is intended, just ATF agrees so no battle from them.
Time might come when the little guy CAN make prototype CAN's .

Yep, the more the SPL is measured at the shooters ear the better comparisons can be made.
But the helix sure had bad numbers at the muzzle.

SPL 6" from shooters ear OSS Helix
Bad numbers 1 meter from muzzle ( ~155db) but not so bad at shooters ear (~138db) Seems like the lower back pressure comes with reduced sound at the ejection port. This will only effect a semi auto. Seems like measurement 6" from shooters ear is the better place to measure the sound reduction o...

2 small spring loaded grub screws on suppressor side to match up with spanner holes on the 22/45 lite should keep it from rotating loose. Another option notice threads on the 22/45 lite are not threaded all the way to the base ? Machine out a beveled space in the suppressor for a small o-ring to com...

Re: 30 cal 1.625" Titanium w/MAAD 51T
Very nice! Getting a reading on the db reduction would have been nice. Hard to know if any improvements are possible without it, this based on comment made by contractor. End porting final chamber may help depending on pressure within chamber, diffusing high pressure gasses to atmosphere over change...

Just hope it passes, and then making sure State laws to fall in line.
Being able to make suppressors with no paperwork or waiting would be Great!
Make all the toys to lower the noise, and no worries about tweaking the parts for best results and pitching the old ones.

Suppressors are not illegal in TX. Sec. 46.05. PROHIBITED WEAPONS. (a) A person commits an offense if the person intentionally or knowingly possesses, manufactures, transports, repairs, or sells: (1) an explosive weapon; (2) a machine gun; (3) a short-barrel firearm; (4) a firearm silencer; (5) knu...

Re: 80% silencers? Yep, it finally happened! (we have them but under the term "solvent trap" - at least they are honest!
Do you have the Texas law that states suppressors are illegal? I'm a little confused that there's a law saying they're illegal but they're legal to hunt with. Yes it's section 46.05. States they are illegal or "prohibited weapons" But if registered with ATF they are legal stated in previo...

Some states like Texas suppressors are illegal. Just read current Texas weapons Laws The only thing that makes them legal is that they are registered with the ATF, so passing federal legislation doing away with registration could impact legal state ownership, until state legislation makes them lega...

Re: Leidenfrost Effect for Next Generation Baffle Surfaces?
Honestly it's hard to imagine anything that would revolutionize silencer designs. While there are many distinct challenges involved the general physics is well known. The heat and fouling involved also limits both usable materials and the design . Yeah, it's all about volume. Projectile noise can b...

Also, move the cleaner baffles towards the muzzle so you can get some good carbon comparisons.
also try a 90degree shift and see if that lowers sound.
