Re: How many folks still build?

Radial baffles can be made with some thought. Using a piece of tool steel made into a form tool will work if the setup is stiff enough.Stacking HSS bits side by side into a form tool would be better. Best would be making or buying a radius tool. The radius tool would put far less strain on a hobby si...

Re: 3 form 1's submitted

You may wish to look up the KAC baffles used on the MK-23 spec-op pistol. Its a highly developed K type baffle. The other was the fluted cone developed by Qual a Tec. These were the original ported cone type baffles. The advantage is no spacers are needed and they have been used with good success for...

Re: 3 form 1's submitted

How would it be affected by porting the barrel near the muzzle into a large area created by the tube extending behind the muzzle to the receiver of the Ruger Mk 1? Porting near the muzzle would be a mistake. Any porting should be near the chamber. Reasons being the pressure is much higher and hotte...

Re: 3 form 1's submitted

Out of curiosity what makes it unsuited for the shorter barrels of 22 rimfire?
The simple baffles work better at lower pressure of a rifle. A tradeoff for ease of construction.

Re: 3 form 1's submitted

Well, just got 3 new form 1's submitted for 22 caliber. Going to do 3 Ruger MK 1 integrals. We'll see how long it takes. Really really wish I could experiment. I'm torn between doing a version of Capt. Link's "Straight 8", and a stack of double clipped cones. I like the idea of a monocore...

Re: Wave Baffles

Think of a wave washer with more pronounced features, three lobes would be fine. I would build it using thin rings for support.A snap ring or C-clip would be a good way then each baffle could be pressed into place. Welding or threading rings would support higher pressures though I suspect the nature...

Wave Baffles

Rotating gases around the periphery of each baffle is a old patented idea. The problem with the patent is forming the vanes and attaching them to each baffle. What if you pressed a flat baffle into a large wave along the circumference then placed a port on one side of the wave. The process is simple...

Re: How many folks still build?

Nice to see some old great builders posting. I would like to build some more in the future. Still can't figure if a roll of toilet paper is constructive intent these days. A integral is what I like best. Quiet accurate and compact. As most of us know its difficult to screw up a .22 unless you try ve...

I like this one: https://www.dhresource.com/webp/m/0x0/f ... hNY057.jpg

Look up aluminum fatigue.

By the way a suppressor will not reduce velocity, in fact they tend to increase it.

Re: Is There Such a Thing as "Too Much" Suppressor?

.22 caliber cans have been shrinking for decades. 1960s saw foot long 2.00" cans that weighed several pounds with over 20 baffles. The baffle design sets the limit not the volume. High volume cans sill have there place but when you need wheels to support the can at least my limit has been reach...

Re: 22 rimfire- Omega vs Cones vs K's

Don't trust the artwork of the Leasure patent I have some details not mentioned. The volume of his suppressors is tiny and dispels all thought about needed cubic inches for a caliber. The design is still used but has gone to the spook market. I have two very similar designs ,the straight eight and t...

Re: 22 rimfire- Omega vs Cones vs K's

I'm going to throw you a curve ball with a little known design by John D Leasure US5164535A. Typical cans used three to four baffles with a half inch spacing. Performance was astonishing.

A port will introduce some asymmetric gas flow while the bore hole cannot. The size of the bore will not matter.

Re: Barrel length ratings workaround

I hate to point out the worm in your apple but no-matter what you do a 10.5 barrel will suck in the ballistics department. I would recommend switching to a long barrel for hunting it takes all of a few minutes to do. The 5.56/223 comes alive at 20" and longer barrels. Still love the M-16 A-1

Re: Air Rifle Suppressor

I have been looking into it and don't desire any friction on this matter. I have devised a method that should meet the requirements. The old perforated spool idea has been stillborn since inception but a packed suppressor works well and long lived without powder fouling. A copy of the old AWC Archan...

Re: .458 SOCOM

Smooth cones, close spaced at say .375"-.5" skirts? That may help cut down some of the chatter on the small OD boring bar I need to use to reach inside the cone, so I'll take that advice, thanks!. While I understand everyone wanting the corrosion resistance of 17-4, Inconel, etc. but they...

Re: .458 SOCOM

CP-2 is pure Ti and certainly can be used for a low pressure build though alloys are more common. Don't over think this smooth ported cones close spaced will do the deed. Bells and whistles rarely add suppression and often make it worse.

Only quiet suppressors are interesting?

Re: Integral 308 bolt action

This is not to difficult: Reduce a area just ahead of the receiver on the barrel to press fit a flange to accept the 1.500x.065 tube. Thin the barrel forward of the flange. This can be a taper or a straight .625 ending with a 5/8x24 muzzle. Modify the monocore so one end is 5/8x24 and the other end ...

Anyway ... K-baffles are pretty much obsolete I think. I believe most folks now much prefer a mono-core - but for someone just starting out, they are easy and forgiving.
