Re: 357 mag subsonic suppressor recommendations.

I just got a 9mm YHM Wraith XL (thread-on) suppressor to put on my H&R Handi in 357 Mag. I bought the NOS can from another dealer for next to nothing. It's an older design sub-gun can, so it's extra large. The additional volume should help. I'm cutting the barrel on the Handi back to 16" as...

Re: Well that was interesting ...

Thread adapters for suppressors are the worst idea ever. Tolerance stacking can only lead to failure. If it works you're lucky. If it doesn't you're screwed. Why chance it?

Re: dome/ellipse baffles ?

I'll throw my .02 cents in the ring for what it's worth. My 'dome baffle' can was built over 5 years ago, a first attempt at building a F1 suppressor. So far as I know, there isn't anything magical about the baffles or their shape. They are very effective in a high pressure rifle can with a small bo...

Re: Savage 458 SOCOM bolt gun draws first blood.

Not really sure. Guess they might expand some on a shoulder shot but I don't have any kills with these yet. I have been experimenting with molding plastic balls in the nose to initiate expansion. Without going to a lot of expense and time, I don't have a really good method to test bullet expansion. ...

700gr subs?!
Which bullets?
I had a mold cut to cast a near-copy of the Lehigh 582gr subsonic match. A bit shorter but still heavier.

Re: Savage 458 SOCOM bolt gun draws first blood.

No suppressor as this hunt was in Canada. I had to perm attach the brake to get the barrel to 18" to meet Canuk specs. 99% of the time the Socom is found in AR15 rifles, but the AR is no bueno in Canada as well. Rifle started as a Savage 10VT in 308. Swapped out the barrel and that's it. McGowa...

Re: % burn of powder in a given length barrel

QuickLoad + OCD = insanity. Sometimes I just have to walk away. A mostly complete burn makes me feel better but I don't know how much of a difference it makes. I usually attempt to achieve 95-100% burn with suppressed loads. Some of my +600gr Socom loads with Lil Gun or N110 burn up way before I run...

Have you tried Lil' Gun?

I use it for heavy bullet subs in 500 S&W and 458 Socom with great results. Very clean.

Re: Shortest, lightest silencer for SBR in 5.56?

So if a hearing safe silencer is a no go for a 5.56 SBR AR, the entire point of adding a suppressor to an SBR is to reduce the muzzle blast and concussion at some tolerable level with ear pro and to reduce the possibly not going instantly deaf from having to fire one indoors in a self defense encou...

Re: Shortest, lightest silencer for SBR in 5.56?

Light, short, hearing safe suppressor = young, hot, not-a-whore girlfriend. Light, short and hearing safe can't all be used in the same sentence. Pick two. Short and light for an SBR? The old OPS, Inc. M4-S. It was the lightest and shortest 556 can out there, only had 2 baffles. Oh, but it's n...
