Re: Clipping a 5.56 Suppressor worth the accuracy and POI issues?
Kailkey charging handle will turn semi auto into a single shot. I have a massive reflex suppressor back to the gas block 1.75” od 10 baffles , total length past muzzle brake about 4.5 “. It’s a very heavy beast but very quiet and never been bothered by gas from ejection port. It’s about 34oz. So it...

Re: Clipping a 5.56 Suppressor worth the accuracy and POI issues?
Now what's noticeable is the noise from the port where the spent case is ejected. It's still really loud and not hearing safe. You can get an AR carbine with the Stoner gas system ("DI"-not actually, but how most refer to it) below 140 dB with an adjustable gas block. Not by much, mind yo...

Re: 9mm Suppressor (no tools)
Welcome aboard. You're going to need some basic tools, or a friend with them willing to loan/help. If you can't manage poking some holes in metal parts, gonna have to suck it up and go F4. As a general rule, the cost of the parts you will need for a quality build is inversely proportionate to your m...

Re: Recommended thickness for tube and baffles
how thin can I go with baffles using 17-4? Strength-wise, very thin. function-wise, it's best to have a little thickness for the clip to do what it does. I would suggest .020" skirt wall thickness and .025" cone wall thickness. As for your tube, .042" wall is more than sufficient. I'...

Re: Order of operations for End cap help?
I make such mounts in one set up. 1-turn OD 2-bore ID to DMin, deep enough for your brake if you don't want to pattern it and make a gauge without the brake portion 3-measure depth & diameter of small side of taper. Bore to that diameter & depth, plus enough depth to account for tool radius ...

42 lb lot of 17-4 drops available
I know this isn't the classified forum, but it makes more sense here I think. I figured I'd offer these up to the F1 community on the boards for a bit before going the eBay route. There's a little bit of 1", some 1.188, couple 1.375. Most of it is 1.5 & 1.625, with some 1.75" in the mi...

Re: Accurate Drilling Center Holes In Baffles
That's not a spider. Though some refer to such a part that way, it's just a chuck stop fixture. A spider is an attachment on the back end of the spindle with 4 screws for dialing in concentricity of a long part. Also a very backwoods way of setting up to make 120°offset cuts cuts. Good grief. That's...

Re: Cutting Up My Cans... Or selling them
Seeing what they are, I can understand why you want them gone. I wouldn't even want those boat anchors for free on a F3.
Why don't you auction them off and donate the proceeds to small businesses in need, those suffering from the COVID-19 situation?

That thing is gonna weigh about 20 pounds using so much heavy wall carbon steel tube.
If I were making it, I would go tubeless using 2.5" 17-4 H900 with .100" WT in the blast chamber and .065" from there forward.

Re: Measuring Sound Levels
So "random number generation at best" is an absurd claim, one which I am left to conclude is based on a complete lack of related experience with a $16 SPL meter so-adjusted. Why would I screw around with a meter that I know for an absolute fact cannot pick up the peak impulse of a gunshot...

Re: .25 ACP can
If you sent can to be bored out from .2xx caliber to .3xx or .4xx, or you had an FFL replace with a baffle stack and endcap meant for a larger caliber, that would be an obvious caliber change. Whether or not it's legal to increase the size of the bore through a suppressor without a new F1 depends o...

Performance.
There's nothing inherently safer or less safe about baffled cans or monocores. That's a function of design & materials (and appropriate use in light of those aspects, of course).

The issue is that other than use on .22 rifles, monocores suck, even with development. Make proper baffles.

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
So do your baffled have progressively longer skirts as you go along the length of the suppressor in that first picture? Or does it just look like from the picture angle? I thought longer skirts were used on the first few baffles and then they shorten up a bit and let the cone section get a little l...

Re: Form 1 builder.com
I've had some of those through. Recoring them into a durable, effective suppressor is a lot of work. My opinion? Hard pass. They're really thick everywhere, so don't save any weight, and 6061 isn't an alloy I'd use for any part of a suppressor. If they were half the price and there were no tax stamp...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
@ECCO Machine You do yours on the rotary, right? Yes. My rotary is a fairly permanent fixture on the mill, and the 3-jaw lives on the rotary most of the time these days. So it's pretty quick for me. This is an older photo, but not much has changed on the mill. With most of the work I do being small...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
yeah I was wondering the same thing about the clips. To orient them the skirts then need a milling operation to index them properly and I was surprised it was worth all that extra work. I do exactly that with the serviceable cores I build. It's a pain, but it matters. B&K 2209 says so. https://...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
With the right design you could get very thin walls on the baffles and very light weights. I was very lucky to pick up a piece of 2" x 24" 300C maraging bar for $100 delivered. It will be used for the blast baffle on a friends M60. I have never used 300C before but have made belt fed rate...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
your comment of "I don't consider carbon, manganese or nickel steels for suppressors" doesn't jive, when those you listed have exponentially more content of C & Mn than that of C350. I refer to those alloys that way not because of what's in them, but because of what's not. Has nothing...

Anyway. If you get some time and can find a small quantity, while not on the level of high Nickel alloys, in any blend, I'd like you to make a single suppressor (of the C350) and give her a little test  . T-Rex The maraging steels have some amazing properties, high strength & hardness wit...

Re: Measuring Sound Levels
But, really... Wouldn't it be reasonable to set the meter a bigger distance from the discharge? No. A 3dBA increase is equivalent to doubling the perceived energy of the sound. Approximately correct A 6dBA increase doubles the distance at which the sound is perceived as equivalent. That's an invers...

Re: hole pattern on K baffle design
I have never seen any study that says this applies to rifle caliber suppressors.I have also never seen any study if clipped cone type are better in suppression than K baffles w/ mouse hole in rifles either. I tried a heck of a lot of K baffle designs, mostly in pistol cans. Radials and many other u...
